1.1 High Quality & Stability of a Power
Distribution System

When electrical power energy becomes more widely used in industry, this kind of needs creates profitable energy
carrying and distribution system to supply the machinery with electricity.
Basically, LS BUS DUCT has been designed, manufactured, and provided in the following conditions.
INTRODUCTION
Suitable to Mass-Current
LS BUS DUCT, which can carry massive power up to
7500A with lower losses is used as distribution system
for main line according to needs of high-rise building and
factory plant through the features of flexibility, safety,
reliability, economical efficiency.
LS BUS DUCT system is simplified so that load may be
freely diverged, extending, moving, replacing and
maintenance of the load easily.
Meanwhile, this has a fine view harmonized with modern
architectural sense.
Service Conditions
Ambient temperature : -15。C~55。C
Relative Humidity : 95% or below
Bus Bar
Copper bus bar has conductivity of 99% or more, or
aluminum bus bar has conductivity of 61% or more.
Connecting plates of bus bar conductors are;
- Tin-Plated : Copper Bus Duct, EPOXY(Cu, Al)
- Silver-Plated : Aluminum Bus Duct, F/R(Cu, Al)
This connecting plates improve the contact resistance
and prevent electrical corrosion.
Temperature Rising Stability
Temperature rising limits shall be within 55。C or less in
the external surface of duct, as specified IEC 60439-1, 2
Insulation Properties
Cless B(130。C) shall be applied on conductor such as
EPOXY, PET and MICA(1200。C) for F/R.
FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastic) shall be applied as a
spacer between conductors of joint part or conductor
and duct. All of these insulation materials have a very
high electrical dielectric strength of AC and impulse
properties.
LS BUS DUCT can be generally covered the rated
insulation voltage up to 1000V.
Lower Voltage Drop & High Short-
Circuit Ratings
Because of its extremely low impedance, voltage drop
is low also. This efficient design allows power to be
delivered with the highest efficiency possible.
Also LS BUS DUCT has a very high short-circuit
withstand strength.
This makes LS BUS DUCT guarantee for safe
application in commercial or industrial facilities.

1.2 Easy Maintenance & Intelligent Bus Way System through an
Evolutional Process

LS BUS DUCT has very compact design by using effective heat radiation structure and Aluminum housing for
outside protection. So the weight is extremely light and it makes easy installation and maintenance.
Especially LS BUS DUCT has a special intelligent function of self-temperature monitoring system optionally
which is using optical fiber as a temperature sensor. This optical fiber is embedded in/on bus duct structure and
can easily measure distributed temperature of bus duct line at real time.
Compact Size
Easy heat radiation design of protection housing
brings small size of bus bar conductor. Aluminum
housing makes the bus duct system to be lighter than
other conventional bus duct. LS BUS DUCT requires
less space than wire and conduit.
Easy Installation and Savings
LS BUS DUCT has extruded aluminum housing and
incorporates with “joint kit type”. So light weight, simple
joint connection work can improve the installation
process faster. As a result, it makes cost down of bus
duct installation works.

LS BUS DUCT is covered all of the distributed capacities of buildings and factories from 600A up to 7500A
power distribution line. Especially LS BUS DUCT is very compact and has a light weight, so it can be simply
installed with using special joint kit which has two connecting plates and drastically decreased the contact
resistance.
LS BUS DUCT‚ basically has an IP54 degree and can be easily enforced to be IP65 degree. It has a temperature
monitoring function if needed.

2.2 Grounding and Harmonics

LS BUS DUCT can provide a very large grounding capacity according to flange end terminal. As housing itself,
the cross section of our aluminum housing has over 100% of internal bus bar conductor’s area in 2,500A.
Therefore the housing itself can play a good role of grounding conductor with low impedance as well as heat
radiation at the same time.
In the cases of more increasing grounding capacity, internal grounding bus bar is built in the system, providing an
integral 50% &100% current capacity for ground path.
Some special operating cases under the non-linear loads, LS BUS DUCT offers added neutral bus bar which has a
100~200% increased bus bar size because of harmonic currents. The more modern industrial and commercial non-
linear application loads increase, the more harmonic current increases in bus duct system. In this case the ampacity
of the neutral bus bar should be increased. Especially even if the 3-phase currents were balanced, this harmonics
cannot be disappeared and lead to deterioration of distribution system and equipments. This neutral bus bar is
available to minimize the harmonic effect and provide safe operating condition within the heat limit rates.

Double-Headed Bolt (Standard)
Double headed bolts can be used for proper tightening by fastening the outer head until break off by any long handled
wrench (700~1,000 kgf·cm).
Moreover, the remained headed bolt is reusable by the torque wrench.

2.4 IP Degree
Basically LS BUS DUCT is designed to have an standard IP54 degree and easy upgrade to IP65 degree for severe
and bad installation condition by adding simple protection tape between housing and housing.
LS BUS DUCT provides optimum performance in the most demanding applications through superior design and
applied material technology, and also it assures uptime and reliability, even in severe-duty weather environments.
Protection Degree IP54
Feeder, plug-in and tap-off bus duct are available with
either drip-proof or splash-proof construction.
Special sealing design structure between housing and
housing has been employed.
Protection Degree IP65
With a degree of protection IP65, this bus duct system is
ideal for using wherever exist corrosive atmosphere.
IP65 degree has a special sealing structure which can
close off the water, dust and gases in the installation site
by using simple barrier materials.

2.5 Temperature Monitoring (Optional)

One of the most special and remarkable characteristics of LS BUS DUCT is accompanied with the temperature
monitoring performance under the live-line condition of busduct system.
If this temperature monitoring system is installed at buildings and factories, unintended accidents will be
forecasted and prevented earlier time.
Temperature Monitoring System of the bus duct line uses optical fiber as a temperature monitoring sensor. This sensor
can be embedded in/on Ez-WayTM
bus duct housing.
Using only one fiber, the system can measure distributed temperature of several kilometers.
ABF (Air Blown Fiber) enables easy integration & installation where access is difficult, especially this method is
powerful in the already installed bus duct line.

3.2 Fittings
LS BUS DUCT has complete ranges which fit to all the lay-out conditions. The other special parts than 90° angle are
also available.
Designation methods related to turning are specified in figure on the basis of source side and load side. Offset and
combination elbow will be applied only when standard elbow is not applied.

3.4 Hangers
Vertical Mounting Hangers
Spring hanger is provided to support busway from each
floor. The quantity of springs (rods) provided is depend
on Busway weight. When the height between stories
exceeds 4.5m, a middle support is required. Openings
for attachment are in line on the floor flange, and able to
adjust simply.
The rigid hanger is the same as the spring hanger, but
hasn't any spring, it is used at both ends and middle of
line.

Straight lengths : Plug-in and Tap-off
The lengths of plug-in, tap-off and feeder and the positions of plug-in
hole and tap-off will be provided in order to be convenient for
maintenance of user.
All the standard lengths of plug-in, tap-off, and feeder are 3000mm.
For plug-in feeder, the rated current diverged is up to 800A per phase,
and for tap-off feeder it is up to 1200A.

The values of impedance of an aluminum and copper conductors are shown as follows.
These are identical values per meter for line to neutral at 60 Hz. In case of 50 Hz, multiply reactance (X) by 0.83
and resistance (R) do not change due to very small frequency effect.

Short circuit rating test of LS BUS DUCT has been tested considering real short circuit condition according to IEC
60439 1&2 under the ASTA and KEMA inspection. Above figure shows the scene of short circuit strength test of
4000A and its oscillogram of phase to phase. LS BUS DUCT has been confirmed to have high short circuit
withstanding strength because of enforced housing structure and rating of up to 200kA for 4000A.

4.3 Temperature rising Test
The temperature rising limit values of LS BUS DUCT shall not be exceeded for specified value as the connection
section of conductor by 70˚C or less and outside duct by 55˚C or less.
Effective heat radiation structure and material properties of LS BUS DUCT prevents the over heating of bus bar,
joint box and its outside duct system within the temperature limit values of IEC 60439 1&2 under the rated
currents.

5.2 Principles
Bus Duct Temperature Monitoring System uses optical fiber as a temperature sensor and can measure
distributed temperature of several thousands of meter with ±0.5°C accuracy.
ABF (Air Blown Fiber) enables easy integration & installation where access is difficult such like a bus way line.
Easy operation & user-friendly GUI (Graphic User Interface)
Temperature Measurement
When the light pulse is launched into the fiber several backscattering lights returns to input end. Temperature based
on the intensity of Raman back-scattered light is used to determine the temperature of the optical fiber sensor. ⇒
Accuracy : ±0.5°C
Distance Measurement
The position of temperature reading is determined by measuring the arrival time of the backscattered light pulse similar
to OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)

INTRODUCTION GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS PHYSICAL DATA LS BUS DUCT Series have ; 1.1 High Quality & Stability of a Power Distribution System 4 LS CABLE When electrical power energy becomes more widely used in industry, this kind of needs creates profitable energy carrying and distribution system to supply the machinery with electricity. Basically, LS BUS DUCT has been designed, manufactured, and provided in the following conditions. INTRODUCTION Suitable to Mass-Current LS BUS DUCT, which can carry massive power up to 7500A with lower losses is used as distribution system for main line according to needs of high-rise building and factory plant through the features of flexibility, safety, reliability, economical efficiency. LS BUS DUCT system is simplified so that load may be freely diverged, extending, moving, replacing and maintenance of the load easily. Meanwhile, this has a fine view harmonized with modern architectural sense. Service Conditions Ambient temperature : -15。C~55。C Relative Humidity : 95% or below Bus Bar Copper bus bar has conductivity of 99% or more, or aluminum bus bar has conductivity of 61% or more. Connecting plates of bus bar conductors are; - Tin-Plated : Copper Bus Duct, EPOXY(Cu, Al) - Silver-Plated : Aluminum Bus Duct, F/R(Cu, Al) This connecting plates improve the contact resistance and prevent electrical corrosion. Temperature Rising Stability Temperature rising limits shall be within 55。C or less in the external surface of duct, as specified IEC 60439-1, 2 Insulation Properties Cless B(130。C) shall be applied on conductor such as EPOXY, PET and MICA(1200。C) for F/R. FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastic) shall be applied as a spacer between conductors of joint part or conductor and duct. All of these insulation materials have a very high electrical dielectric strength of AC and impulse properties. LS BUS DUCT can be generally covered the rated insulation voltage up to 1000V. Lower Voltage Drop & High Short- Circuit Ratings Because of its extremely low impedance, voltage drop is low also.   • 9. 2.2 Grounding and Harmonics 9LS CABLE LS BUS DUCT can provide a very large grounding capacity according to flange end terminal. As housing itself, the cross section of our aluminum housing has over 100% of internal bus bar conductor’s area in 2,500A. Therefore the housing itself can play a good role of grounding conductor with low impedance as well as heat radiation at the same time. In the cases of more increasing grounding capacity, internal grounding bus bar is built in the system, providing an integral 50% &100% current capacity for ground path. Some special operating cases under the non-linear loads, LS BUS DUCT offers added neutral bus bar which has a 100~200% increased bus bar size because of harmonic currents. The more modern industrial and commercial non- linear application loads increase, the more harmonic current increases in bus duct system. In this case the ampacity of the neutral bus bar should be increased. Especially even if the 3-phase currents were balanced, this harmonics cannot be disappeared and lead to deterioration of distribution system and equipments. TECHNICAL DATA INSTALLATION PROCEDURETEMPERATUREMONITORINGSYSTEMforBUSDUCT 2.4 IP Degree Basically LS BUS DUCT is designed to have an standard IP54 degree and easy upgrade to IP65 degree for severe and bad installation condition by adding simple protection tape between housing and housing. LS BUS DUCT provides optimum performance in the most demanding applications through superior design and applied material technology, and also it assures uptime and reliability, even in severe-duty weather environments. Protection Degree IP54 Feeder, plug-in and tap-off bus duct are available with either drip-proof or splash-proof construction. Special sealing design structure between housing and housing has been employed. Protection Degree IP65 With a degree of protection IP65, this bus duct system is ideal for using wherever exist corrosive atmosphere. IP65 degree has a special sealing structure which can close off the water, dust and gases in the installation site by using simple barrier materials.   • 12. 2.5 Temperature Monitoring (Optional) INTRODUCTION GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS PHYSICAL DATA12 LS CABLE One of the most special and remarkable characteristics of LS BUS DUCT is accompanied with the temperature monitoring performance under the live-line condition of busduct system. If this temperature monitoring system is installed at buildings and factories, unintended accidents will be forecasted and prevented earlier time. Temperature Monitoring System of the bus duct line uses optical fiber as a temperature monitoring sensor. This sensor can be embedded in/on Ez-WayTM bus duct housing. Using only one fiber, the system can measure distributed temperature of several kilometers. ABF (Air Blown Fiber) enables easy integration & installation where access is difficult, especially this method is powerful in the already installed bus duct line.   • 30. Short circuit rating test of LS BUS DUCT has been tested considering real short circuit condition according to IEC 60439 1&2 under the ASTA and KEMA inspection. Above figure shows the scene of short circuit strength test of 4000A and its oscillogram of phase to phase.
