3. Research
Colours: This magazine company have used a number of different colours on this
front cover. The bright colours, red and green ensure that this attracts the audience,
they have chosen to use red as the colour for the masthead because they know
people will get instantly attracted to the magazine because of this. They have also
used a faded yellow colour on the cover line, and strong vibrate use of yellow on
other places of the front cover.
Fonts: Looking at the front cover of this magazine, I can see several different fronts
that have been used in order to attract the target audience. The font used on the
cover line is “script” they have chosen to use this font because this font ties in with
Bring Me The Horizon’s Image and music genre. They have used this font because
the publisher knows that the audience will know the band when seeing the font.
Other types of fonts have been used in different areas on the front cover. They have
also use a number of different stories and interviews with other bands in order to
attract the target audience.
Photography/Imagery: Several different images of different bands have been used
on this front cover in order to try and attract the target audience, if the magazine
company put interviews with different bands in the magazine this attracts a wider
range, for example some people may not listen to Bring Me The Horizon but may
listen to OM&M they can read this interview instead.
Writing style/language: After looking at this front cover I can see a certain type of
language is used throughout, I would class the language as informal/casual. An
example of this “I used the band to sort my head out”
Blobs and Stars: Looking at the front cover I have noticed that there are a few
adverts and different freebees that you can get when buying the magazine. This is a
great way to try and attract the target audience.
Structure and layout: After looking at this magazine I have seen that the logo is
covered by the main image, also that the adverts are at the side on the layout.
4. Research
Colours: Looking at this double page spread, I can see a number of different colours
have been used to ensure it attracts the intended target audience, they have placed white
writing on a black background to make it fully visible to the reader and to also give it
every chance to stand out. They have also used the colour blue on a dark background
because they know is will be eye-catching to the reader.
Fonts: After looking at this double page spread, I can see they have used a number of
different fonts to ensure this page attracts the target audience. They have used large
coloured font to help with attraction. They have also used other fonts to express certain
quotes and parts of the interview to help attract you further. They have also set out the
interview text very formally.
Writing style/language: After looking at this double page spread I have seen that the
writing style and language used is informal, they have produced the writing style and
language this way because this will attract the audience group, example of informal
language I have found in this double page spread would be “I think we’re a cool band,
but not this cool. This is f***ed up”.
Structure and layout: After looking at this double page spread layout and structure I
have seen that the image is spread across the page, with the text being put to one side.
5. Colours: After looking at this website I can see they have used a number of
different colours to try and attract the target audience, they have used vibrate and
bright blue on the masthead title, this ensures that this will be the first thing that
the reader sees when they view the website. The general layout of the website is
very colourful and quite welcoming, and in a way makes the reader feel welcome.
They also have good use of vibrant and attention seeking colours.
Blobs and Stars: I have seen a number of different adverts and giveaways that this
advert is trying to promote, they have done this to try and attract there target
audience further, an example of this would be “Try 5 issues for £5” this makes the
reader think that they have an advantage, or a bargain that not everyone is
Writing style/language: After looking at this website I have found that the writing
style and language used is very informal, its quite casual, it speaks to the viewer
what I would class as a “friend level” in a paragraph about a band or artist the
will emotionally exaggerate, especially if the band or artist has released a new
album or is going on tour, they do this because they know that the reader will be
feeling similar.
Structure and layout: After looking at this magazine’s structure and layout, I have
seen that the adverts are placed at the top of the web page in order to attract the
target audience. Also the main title is placed at the top of the website.

6. GQ is an international monthly men's magazine based in
New York City and founded in 1931. The publication
focuses on fashion, style, and culture for men.
7. Research
Colours: After looking at this front cover, I have seen that the publisher has used a number of different
colours, to try and attract the target audience. They have used a lot of vibrate red because they know
this will be the most eye-catching to the reader and also because Labours colour is also red so it fits in
with the content of the magazine. They have also used a white background to lay the text out on
making it stand out further to the reader.
Fonts: The publisher have used very clear and professional looking font, they have done this because
they know the target audience that they want to reach and because this magazine is based purely on
the fashion, news, sport, entertainment and important figures within society, certain parts of text have
been produced in block capitals to exaggerate a certain part of a story, to make sure the reader opens
the magazine to read it and find out.
Writing style/ language: After looking at this front cover I have seen, that the writing style is very
formal, clear and understandable. The language used on this front cover is very formal, this fits well
with the content of the magazine.
Blobs and Stars: Looking at this front cover, I can see many other stories and tips, these are used as an
incentive to make the reader view the magazine, for example the blob on this magazine is “How to
make $1bn from tequila” this advert makes the reader feel as if they have an advantage, that they have
found this before anyone else and the way the it is wrote out it will make the reader feel as if the blob
is speaking to them.
Structure and layout: After looking at this font page layout and structure I can see that the masthead
is at the top of the magazine, also the image is covering the logo, this is because the magazine
company is confident that there magazine can be recognized anywhere even with the logo being
covered.

9. Research
Colours: After looking at this double page spread, I can see that they have used a number of
different colours in order to try and attract there audience. The colours that they have used are, white,
black and gold. The publisher has chosen to have black coloured writing on a white background
because they know this will stand out to the reader, they have also put a part of the paragraph in
black block capitals at the top of the page because they know that this will be eye-catching to the
reader and this will be one of the first parts the reader sees when opening the magazine.
Fonts: After looking at this double page spread, I have found that a certain type of font has been
used, in order to try and attract the target audience. They have kept the font quite plain because they
know the audience they want to attract and because in some ways this was a formal interview,
therefore they didn’t need to use script font that I have seen on other double page spreads.
Writing style/language: After looking at this double page spread I have found that the language
used is very informal, and casual. The language used fits in well with the genre and general music
scene that this artist is a part of, the target audience and reader will be attracted to buying this
magazine because of the writing style and language used.
Photography/imagery: After looking at this double page spread I have found that the image used
fits in very well with the content of the article, the image has been placed on a white background to
ensure it stands out to the reader. Also the colours of the clothes that this artiest is wearing are dark,
therefore it will stand out on to the reader.
10. Colour schemes used within magazines
Having a good colour scheme when producing a magazine is vital to make sure you
attract your chosen target audience. Professional magazine company’s use a number
of different bright, vibrant colours to attract there chosen target audience. I have
researched several different magazines to show how this is done.
11. Evaluation of research
After looking at all of the research I have gathered I can see a visual pattern with each magazine, they all have bright, vibrant
colours used on the front pages and on the double page spreads. When I come to produce my product I will take away certain
colour schemes as inspiration that have been used here, on a personal level I like the way that some of these front covers have
been produced I think the colour schemes that have been used look very professional. I will also take away elements of the
structure and layout of the magazines I have researched when I come to produce my product. Also after analysing all of the
magazines I have gathered I have found that all of them are more or less laid out the same way in order to attract the target
audience. If I had chance to conduct my research again I’d research a number of different styles of magazines, by doing this I would
get a different view on a different structure and layout and see how they attract there target audience.
