Keep it at a length and style at which you can maintain
it.
Wash your hair at least once a day using soap or mild
shampoo.
Brush your hair three to four times a day with a soft
bristled brush or a wide toothed comb.
Wash your brush and comb every time you wash your
hair.
Avoid sharing comb.
Oil the scalp, once a week, preferably an hour before
hair wash.
11. Skin microorganisms - superficial layers of the epidermis
and the upper parts of the hair follicles.
Staphylococcus epidermidis
Generally nonpathogenic and considered to be
commensal
Sometimes potentially pathogenic Staphylococcus
aureus is found on the face and hands, particularly in
individuals who are nasal carriers of this organism.
Soap and water are essential for keeping the skin clean.
Any skin problem consult your doctor.

12. natural moist and secretions of these areas, in
unhygienic conditions, can cause irritation and
infection.
Most skin is a dry, inhospitable place where few
microbes like to live.
population of microbes -100 bacteria/cm.
hot humid days sweaty skin becomes a much nicer
place for microbes to live.
Wash off well after soaping
Drying with a clean towel
Avoid sharing soaps and towels.
Change into clean underwear after bath.
Use antibacterial soap
13. food particles stuck in between the teeth and in the
crevices of the flatter teeth at the back, the molars
and pre molars

Brush teeth and rinse well:
after every meal (especially after eating spicy food(Onion
& Garlic)
Before going to bed
After smoking
14. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water
before and after every meal
after visiting the toilet.
Soaping and rinsing should cover the areas between palm to
palm, dorsum, fingers interlace, backs of your fingers, nails,
thumb and palm.
Hands should be dried with a paper towel after wash.
Then use a paper towel to put off the tops.
While cooking, handling food avoid:
scratching, or touching the ears, nose, mouth or other body
orifices.
If you need to use a handkerchief or tissue, wash your hands
after that.
Keep your nails short and avoid nail polish.
15. Fungal infections of the fingernails, or toenails, can
lead to loss of the nail.
this infection is easily caught in
damp environments such as the swimming pool.
Toenail infections - athletes foot.
Prolonged use of the same footwear, such as work
boots, will also increase the risk for toenails.
16. Short nails make less
trouble.
Clip nails short, along
their shape. Don't cut
them so close that it
pinches the skin.
Do not keep your nails
painted continuously. It
causes the keratin, of
which nails are made to
split.
Avoid sharing nail clippers
and manicure sets.
17. good scrub with a sponge, or foot scrubber
Dry after bath between toes. Keep toenails clipped.
Those who use shoes constantly need to slip them off
now and then. This airs the socks a bit and makes
them less smelly.
Wear cotton socks.
Wear a clean pair everyday.
Powder your feet before wearing socks. Many people have
sweaty feet, and socks and shoes can get quite smelly.
If possible do not wear the same pair of shoes every day.
Keep at least one more pair and use it alternatively.
Give importance to wearing comfort in the choice of
footwear.
18. Approximately 1% of all menstruating
women carry the bacteria (Staphylococcus
aureus) in their genital area.
Absorbent tampons provide the medium for
them to grow and spread infection.
20. A build-up of secretions called
smegma can form under the foreskin
of uncircumcised men. If you are
uncircumcised, gently pull back the
foreskin when you have a shower and
clean with water. You can use soap if
you like, but make sure you rinse it off
well.

itchy and are a cause of
embarrassment.
24. DANDRUFF
Dead skin on the scalp comes
off in tiny flakes.
some disturbance in the tiny
glands of the skin called the
sebaceous glands.
They excrete oil, or sebum.
When there is too little oil the
skin becomes flaky and dry
color.
A shampoo with selenium
sulfide or salicylic acid helps.
25. BAD BREATH
Poor oral hygiene
Infection of gums
halitosis.
Smoking can make
this worse.
Too much intake of
spicy food (onions &
garlic)
26. BAD BREATH
bad breath first thing in the
morning
Good oral care
see a dentist
Minimize eating spicy food
27. EAR WAX
Cerumen or ear wax
accumulates in the ear canal
that leads from the outer ear
to the ear drum. As the
secretion comes out of the
ear it collects dust particles
which might have got in from
outside.
Daily wash with soap and
water is enough to keep the
outer ear clean. Use soft
cotton buds to clean the
inner ear by not reaching the
ear drum.
28. BODY ODOR
The body:
nearly two million sweat glands.
glands produce three quarts to one
pint of sweat in a day.
In tropical countries, naturally, more
sweat is produced. The perspiration
level increases with an increase in
physical exertion or nervous tension.
Fresh perspiration, when allowed to
evaporate does not cause body
odor. An offensive smell is caused
when bacteria that are present on
the skin get to work on the sweat
and decompose it. This is specially
so in the groin, underarms, feet or in
clothing that has absorbed sweat.
“Diet influences the odor too”
29. BODY ODOR
Body smells are caused by a
number of factors working in
combination, including:
Chemicals in sweat, including
pheromones, which are made
by the body and sexually
attract (or repel) other people.
Wastes excreted through the
skin, such as metabolized
alcohol.
The actions of bacteria that
live on the skin and feed on
dead skin cells and sweat.
Unwashed clothes, such as
underwear and socks.
30. Follow Good Habits of Personal Hygiene
Bathe or shower daily.
Keep your hair clean.
Cover, pull back or wear a hairnet for long
hair at work.
Keep nails trimmed and clean.
Wear clean clothes every day.
Keep jewelry and cologne to a minimum.
Use antiperspirant to eliminate excessive
under arm sweating (“rexona wont
let you down”).
32. ATHLETES FOOT
The skin becomes scaly. There are sores
or blisters between toes. Often it spreads
to the soles.
This infection is caused by a fungus,
breeds in warm wet places.
Proper foot care can alleviate the
condition. Wash feet well and apply
powder. A mild fungicidal ointment at
bedtime will help. Keep feet exposed. If
you have to wear shoes, wear cotton
socks.
Sometimes the blisters begin to ooze.
Soak your feet in a warm bath for 10
minutes and then apply calamine lotion.
If the problem persists consult a doctor.
