How to write a ‘Statement of Intent’
A requirement ofyour course workis a ‘Statement of
Intent’, where youwrite about your plans for your video
and website, andhow they are going to fit in withwhat you
already know about the media, the industry and the theory
youhave studied. Youcan complete your statement of
intent by following the guidance below:
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical
framework to communicatemeaningand meet the requirementsof
your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
In this sectionyou needdiscuss what you plan to do in your video and website. The
followingwill help you:
Music Video
 Write about the concept (idea) for your video.
 Write about how this concept willfit into the genre (and what the genre is).
 Write about how this concept willattract the specific audience (andwhat the
audience is).
 Write about how this concept willfit into the core values of your recordcompany
(and state whichcompany that is).
 Write about how youwilluse performers inyour music video to suit the genre,
recordcompany andaudience.
 Write about how youwilluse mise-en-scene; writeabout how that mise-en-scene
links to other existingmusic videos intertextually.
 Write about what representations this mise-en-scene willproduce.
 Write about how these representations willattract your audience.
 Write about how your willuse editing and other appropriate conventions ofmusic
video; write about this will attract the audience, sit within genre and promote the
values of your recordcompany.
 Write about how you are going to use performance andnarrative in the video and
how this will attract the audience and fit the genre.
 Write about any other aspects ofthe video not already covered(e.g. specific
shots, lighting or SFX).
 Write about what the message ofyour video will be and how this will be
appropriate for the genre, recordcompany andaudience.
Website
 Write about how you are going to use the medialanguage ofwebsites and
conventions ofweb designand what these include ona music artists website.
 Write about how your designchoices are goingto attract your audience.
 Write about what pages will be included onyour website andhow it is going to
use social media.
 Write about how your websitestructure andsocialmediawill attract your
audience, allow interactivity, and help the promotionofyour artist.
 Write about how your websitewillreflect the namedrecordcompany and it will
be used financially.
 Write about other feature the website willhave and why these feature will appeal
to the audience.
 Write about how the visual elements ofthe website willhookin and keep readers
on the pages.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrateyour
knowledge and understandingof the digitally convergentnature of
your media production?(approx. 100 words)
In this sectionyouneedto write about how your music video and your website will
achieve synergy (brandingacross the products).
 Write about why synergy and branding are important to mediaindustries.
 Write about how your are goingto use images, logos, typefaces andcolours
across your music video and website.
 Write about how your willuse your music video on your website andvice versa.
 Write about what your willbe unique to your website, andnot necessarily
connects to the music video and why youhave made this choice.
 Write about how youwilluse socialmediato produce synergy betweenyour
products andhow this will be useful to the recordcompany andattractive to the
audience.
 Write your answers to the above questions in the form of
continuous prose.
 Once you have done your first draft, show it to your teacher for
checking.
 Check spelling and punctuation.
 Write final draft of your answers, considering all feedback given.
 Submit to teacher (your teacher will put it on the appropriate form
for the exam board.)

How to write a statement of intent

How to write a ‘Statement of Intent’ A requirement ofyour course workis a ‘Statement of Intent’, where youwrite about your plans for your video and website, andhow they are going to fit in withwhat you already know about the media, the industry and the theory youhave studied. Youcan complete your statement of intent by following the guidance below: How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicatemeaningand meet the requirementsof your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) In this sectionyou needdiscuss what you plan to do in your video and website. The followingwill help you: Music Video  Write about the concept (idea) for your video.  Write about how this concept willfit into the genre (and what the genre is).  Write about how this concept willattract the specific audience (andwhat the audience is).  Write about how this concept willfit into the core values of your recordcompany (and state whichcompany that is).  Write about how youwilluse performers inyour music video to suit the genre, recordcompany andaudience.  Write about how youwilluse mise-en-scene; writeabout how that mise-en-scene links to other existingmusic videos intertextually.  Write about what representations this mise-en-scene willproduce.  Write about how these representations willattract your audience.  Write about how your willuse editing and other appropriate conventions ofmusic video; write about this will attract the audience, sit within genre and promote the values of your recordcompany.  Write about how you are going to use performance andnarrative in the video and how this will attract the audience and fit the genre.  Write about any other aspects ofthe video not already covered(e.g. specific shots, lighting or SFX).  Write about what the message ofyour video will be and how this will be appropriate for the genre, recordcompany andaudience. Website  Write about how you are going to use the medialanguage ofwebsites and conventions ofweb designand what these include ona music artists website.  Write about how your designchoices are goingto attract your audience.  Write about what pages will be included onyour website andhow it is going to use social media.
  • 2.  Write about how your websitestructure andsocialmediawill attract your audience, allow interactivity, and help the promotionofyour artist.  Write about how your websitewillreflect the namedrecordcompany and it will be used financially.  Write about other feature the website willhave and why these feature will appeal to the audience.  Write about how the visual elements ofthe website willhookin and keep readers on the pages. How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrateyour knowledge and understandingof the digitally convergentnature of your media production?(approx. 100 words) In this sectionyouneedto write about how your music video and your website will achieve synergy (brandingacross the products).  Write about why synergy and branding are important to mediaindustries.  Write about how your are goingto use images, logos, typefaces andcolours across your music video and website.  Write about how your willuse your music video on your website andvice versa.  Write about what your willbe unique to your website, andnot necessarily connects to the music video and why youhave made this choice.  Write about how youwilluse socialmediato produce synergy betweenyour products andhow this will be useful to the recordcompany andattractive to the audience.  Write your answers to the above questions in the form of continuous prose.  Once you have done your first draft, show it to your teacher for checking.  Check spelling and punctuation.  Write final draft of your answers, considering all feedback given.  Submit to teacher (your teacher will put it on the appropriate form for the exam board.)
