Contents Page: Analysis
1.
2. Colour scheme – From the
front cover, the colour
scheme stays the same. The
masthead and some other
text features are red on the
cover but only the dash on
the masthead is highlighted
in red on contents page.
Black is also carried over
from the theme of the front
cover. Even though only very
little of the text on the front
is black the whole photo is
shot in black and white and it
has flowed to the contents
are borders and font colour.
3. Text – The text on the
contents page is very simple
and quite small, in size and
quantity this is appropriate
to the target audience and
then contents page focuses
on the photos rather than
the writing, which appeals
to the audience.
4. Images – The images on this
contents page do not stay
within social conventions. The
focus of the photo comes out
of the borders in two of the
photos. However, the photos
are very vibrant which would
appeal to the target
audience.
Layout – The overall layout is quite
neat and everything is in boxes.
The captions to the photos are
next to the photos that they
correspond to showing an
organised style.
5. Colour scheme – From the
front cover, the colour
scheme stays the same. The
writing and main text boxes
are red on the cover and the
headers, page number and
the cover story are also
highlighted in red on contents
page, this is to keep the flow
between the front and
contents pages. Black is also
carried over from the front
cover, and used as the alley
in between the text and the
photos.
6. Text - The text on the
magazine contents page is
simple and smart appealing
to the target audience as
40+ people wouldn’t want
to read a magazine that
has large, handwriting like
font in bright colours.
7. Images – The images on the
contents page are neat and
organised, to appeal more
to the older generations
(40+). Also, because it is for
older generations the photos
used are also old photos so
they are in black and white.
Coloured photos are also
used to bring together old
classic music and the artists
now that they are older. Also
the photos are mainly
medium close-ups, some
medium shots. This follows
conventions of normal
contents pages.
8. Layout – The layout is neat
and organised, the images
are down the right side
while the text is down the
left giving it an even split. It
is a formal layout that will
appeal to the target
audience. The simplicity of
the layout is ideal for older
people as they wouldn’t
want a messy, confusing
layout.
Pug – The promotion of a new
‘vinyl’ is fitting to the target
audience as the magazine is
called ‘Record Collector’ so a
CD wouldn’t appeal to this
audience.
9. Colour scheme – From the
front cover, the majority of
the colour scheme stays
the same. The red of the
masthead is also used for
the page numbers, main
headers and the
background to the main
body of writing. Yellow is
also carried over from the
front cover; it is used for
text boxes on the contents
page, and as borders for
some images.
10. Images – The images on the
contents page are spaced
out and in a not organised
manner, this appeals to the
target audience (pre-teens
and teens) as they would find
a more hectic layout more
appealing to them. The
photos vary between medium
close-ups, action shots and full
shots. This variation may have
been used as younger teens
tend to like differences rather
than things always staying the
same so these different shots
would be interesting and
more appealing.
11. Text - The text on the
magazine contents
page is simple and
doesn’t take away
from the photos that
are the main focus of
the pages.
Layout – The overall layout of the
contents page is hectic and seems
to not have much of a
organisation, but this may have
been used draw attention to the
many different features of the page
and the magazine.
12. Pug – The pug is used
to promote new
bands, this would
appeal to the teens
that read this
magazine as the ‘new
bands’ would probably
be similar to the other
bands that the
magazine promotes.
