The document summarizes the process of designing a new lamp base inspired by the Murry Feiss brand. The designer conducted research on Murry Feiss and competitors to familiarize themselves with the brand's style. Trend research found popular motifs included ombre colors, iridescence, and underwater themes. Initial sketches combined Greek, Roman, and aquatic elements. A 3D CAD model was created and 3D printed. Photoshop was used to render the final images. The process demonstrated standard product design methods.

Brand Research
I needed to familiarize myself with the Murry Feiss brand and its compet-
itors in order to develop a lamp base product that is a new concept for the
market while retaining the character and look of the brand.
Summary of Our Brand Research:
• Traditional, Transitional, Modern, Period inspired, Crystal- tell a story,
expand on that- personality of the brand
• “Design details and high quality materials ensure a solution for virtually
any design challenge.”
• Sought after resource for lighting
The product designer can have a fabulous idea but it may not suit that par-
ticular company or their customers. It is also important to know who your
customer is.
2. The next step was to incorporate new and upcoming trends. Most of my
finding were obtained through Style Sight.

3. Concept Creation
Phase 1: Sketching
Greek, Roman and aquatic elements were the
main influences for my design.
Our first family vacation to the
beach was when I was less than a
year old. The image of the first shell is very similar
to the one my mother took home from that trip.
Inspiration can come from a combination of our
surroundings and from monumnets, art and mo-
Phase 2: Third Demensional CAD Rendering
Tinkercad is a free and user-friendly browser-based 3D design and mod-
eling tool. I learned how to use it to manipulate my product designs and
ready them for 3D printing.
4. Originally, my CAD design featured a column, however it was quickly
agreed that we needed to incorporate a modern theme to better suit Feiss
Changing Direction
In this CAD design, bubbles
and rods were used as fillers
for the smaller “floating”
pieces.
From this angle, you should be able to see where the indension in the roof
of the lamp with the intent of the lamp having an LED light.
To get the best results from the 3D
Printer, the structure had to be
separated into three pieces. The task was
not hard but certainly tedious.
5. 3D Printer
After the print was assembled I took a few pictures of the model with a black
backdrop in preparation for Photoshop. This makes it easier to seperate the
image from its background.
I prepared my CAD drawings and submitted them to The Factory, a space in
the University of North Texas, Willis Library, that promotes the cooperative and
creative use of technology.
The result is a model of my lamp base, made of .... plastic, via 3D printing.

8. This project enabled me to combined ideas, research, aesthetics, and technol-
ogy to produce a lamp bases that honors and exemplifies the attributes of the
well-established lighting manufacturer, Murray Feiss.
I had the opportunity to use our findings, inspiration, and creativity to expand
our knowledge of product design and development.
The process illustrates standard methods practiced by professionals in this in-
dustry through a series of steps that led to the creation of the product collec-
tion for our assigned brand. we walk across that stage, we will be prepared and
equipped with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to thrive in this incredibly
competitive industry.
Through our hands on exploration, the challenges we persevered, and the ability
to build actual product models helped us gain skills to prepare us for the mar-
ketplace in the home furnishings and decorative accessories industry.
To be successful, students must utilize all resources available to them. Opportu-
nities start now, in the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism at the
University of North Texas; while we have mentors here solely to help us. They
