Skeeter is a white woman who wants to write a book exposing the poor treatment of black maids in 1960s Mississippi. She works with Aibileen, a maid caring for the Leefolt household, and Minny, a maid who is often fired for speaking her mind. Aibileen agrees to tell her story to Skeeter to expose the challenges maids face. Minny also contributes, revealing she once baked a pie with her feces for a racist employer. In the end, Skeeter publishes the book, which is a success, and shares the profits with Aibileen, Minny, and other maids who shared their stories.

3.  Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan is the daughter of a
white family whose cotton farm employs many
African Americans in the fields, as well as in the
household. Skeeter has just finished college and
comes home and she wants to become a writer.
 Skeeter realizes that she wants to expose to the
world in the form of a book the deplorable
conditions the maids in the South endure in
order to barely survive. Unfortunately such an
exposé is a dangerous proposition, not just for
Skeeter, but for any maids that agree to help
her. Aibileen finally agrees to tell her story

4.  Abilene is a maid who takes care of children
and cleans. Her first job since her own 24-
year-old son, Treelore, died from an accident
on his job, is tending the Leefolt household
and caring for their toddler, Mae Mobley
 Aibileen finally agrees to tell her story, but
she cannot persuade any of her friends to
join in the project.

5.  Minny is Aibileen's friend who frequently tells
her employers what she thinks of them,
resulting in her having been fired from
nineteen jobs. Minny's most recent employer
was Mrs. Walters, mother of Hilly Holbrook.
 Minny also baked a pie for Mrs. Hilly, Mrs
Hilly enjoyed the pie but as she was about to
finish her second slice when Minny told her
that the pie was full of her poop.

6.  In the end, Skeeter release the novel and it
turns out to be sucess. She sends Minny 600
dollars and then Minny and Aiblene share the
money with the other made who told their
stories.
