3. 3
Vision is one of the six sensory systems that
are used by humans in order to interact with our
environment.
Vision has been singled out as the most
important for motor control.
Depth cues give us information about the
third dimension (depth) of visual space
Depth cues may be monocular or binocular.
Binocular depth cue relies on information
from both eyes.
The important factor that helps us to
investigate the perceptionin relation to
monocularand binocularvision would be the
hand dominance.
It is believed that 85-90 percent of the
world’s populationis right handed.
About 2/3 of the populationis right eye
dominant, and 1/3 is left eye dominant (Givens,
2015).
4. 4
Eye dominance refers to the eye that the
brain prefers, or one that has stronger processing
in the brain than the other.
The purpose of our empirical study
was to investigate the phenomenon of
depth perception in relation to
monocular and binocular vision in
basketball.

Independent variables: eye

and monocular (one eye covered)
visions,
Dependent variable: the amount of
free throws made.
6. 6
The participant (basketball player)
will be exposed to two conditions.
1) Stationary basketball
shots will be more successful
through binocular vision
versus monocular;
2) In a monocular
stationary basketball free
shooting exercise, the higher
score will be shown with the
use of ones dominant eye
rather than non-dominant
eye.
