2. yearlong professional social emotional
learning program
The yearlong professional development
training for social emotional learning is
intended to support and enhance teacher social
emotional resources and in-class strategies
to support students’ academic, social, and
emotional development. Teachers are trained in
10-12-person small group cohorts throughout
the training. Teachers participate in self-care
strategies for their own professional wellness to
guard against burnout and compassion fatigue
while also supporting and creating a caring and
compassionate learning environment.
The methods for instruction include didactic,
experiential, and health and wellness coaching
approaches for teacher development. The
trainings bridge theory and practice through
the use of evidence-based mind-body and
mindfulness-based strategies for whole child
and teacher development.
Specific areas of professional development
include affect and learning, movement and
learning, strategies for developing student
self and emotional regulation, interpersonal
relationship development, critical thinking,
self-and social awareness. This enables teachers
to more fully partner with students to overcome
obstacles and barriers in the classroom that
impact student academic growth.

mindfulness and self-compassion
workshops
These teachings are conducted in small group
format and utilize the self awareness that is cul-
tivated by mindfulness and the care of oneself
afforded by self-compassion and loving-kind-
ness practices. The works draw upon the core
aspects of mindfulness training to bring about
a quality of attention to one’s experience with
as little judgement as possible. Through the
use of mindfulness practices individuals can
more fully understand their emotional states
and bring forth an attitude of acceptance to
the experience of the present. Self-compassion
practices bring to the foreground a deeper
understanding and concern to the perceived
failure, inadequacies and general painful situa-
tions experienced in life.
mind-body skills group

day-to-day lives.
