The Remember memorial, shown here during its illumination
on September 12th, is constructed of two 11" thick blocks of
R-Cast® acrylic. The base was fabricated from stainless steel. All
together, the sculpture is over eight feet tall. The transparency of
the R-Cast® allows for the brilliant internal lighting.
Pictured above is the actual piece of steel from
ground zero that was given to the project by
the Pentagon. This relatively small section of
high beam actually weighs over 200 pounds.
In total, the cleanup of Ground Zero took over a
year and approximately 108,000 truckloads of
rubble were removed from the site.

The lines and spire of the North Tower can clearly be seen in this

Colorado citizens gathered for the lighting of a 9/11 sculpture manufactured by RPT. The Remember sculpture features
acrylic replicas of the World Trade Center towers and steel from Ground Zero.
Grand Junction, CO. September 24, 2013 – Despite the threat of rain, a large crowd gathered outside of Grand Junction Fire
Station 1 in hopes of witnessing something unseen for the last twelve years – the World Trade Center glowing with light against
the evening sky. That is exactly what happened in the form of Remember, an over eight foot tall, internally lighted memorial that
now belongs to the citizens of Grand Junction, Colorado. Designed by local
artist Pat Olson, Remember honors the victims of the 9/11 attacks and serves
as a kindled reminder to those who still live.
Remember is constructed of two transparent, 11” thick blocks of R-Cast®
that were carefully crafted with details of the Twin Towers, right down to the
arches above the lower floor windows and the spire atop the North Tower. The
memorial’s lighting was, quite appropriately, designed by local firefighters and
harmonizes perfectly with the reflective properties of R-Cast®, providing for the
towers to shine with striking brilliance.
The most remarkable feature of the September 11 luminary is perhaps the iron
object that is suspended between the
acrylic towers. The Pentagon provided
an actual piece of steel beam from the
World Trade Center, weighing over 200
pounds, which serves as the centerpiece of
the statue. The raw shape of the steel, obviously cut to size with a powerful torch, is a stark
reminder of the effort that was undertaken to clean up Ground Zero.
For Reynolds Polymer Technology, the project was a chance to contribute to a worthy cause
and to showcase the versatility and strength of their R-Cast® acrylic. “RPT was originally
approached to make an acrylic pedestal for the section of high beam from the World Trade
Center,” explained Josh Fritz, Regional
Account Manager for RPT. “After reviewing
the project, we told them that we could
offer a lot more than simply that. It was
then that we were given the opportunity
to contribute to the new design and the
fabrication of the Twin Towers – something
we worked very hard on and enjoyed
doing.”
In addition to Pat Olson and Reynolds Polymer, several other local parties
contributed to the construction of Remember, including Intrawest Machine and
Fabrication and Mesa Crate. To view a slideshow of the memorial’s fabrication,
