1. Training: Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud
This chapter describes the outline of the training and the methodology that will be used to present the
training.
2.1 Scope
The training given will include the following: a 4 days course for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.
2.1 Training Outline
In this course, students will learn the basics and functionality of Oracle Exalogic. They will get an overview of
the following topics:
- Describe the initial configuration of the Oracle Exalogic machine
- Connect to and manage all Oracle Exalogic hardware components
- Configure, mount, and monitor ZFS storage shares
- Configure and monitor InfiniBand networks
- Perform backup and recovery on an Exalogic system
- Use Oracle Exalogic's Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) capabilities
- Provision and monitor accounts in a virtual data center
- Create and use virtual network and storage resources
- Create and manage virtual servers
2.2 Course Objectives
Day 1
- Oracle Exalogic system overview
- Hardware overview
- Software stack overview
- Exalogic software optimizations for middleware and applications
- Virtual stack, differences with physical stack
- Networking: concepts, layout, what’s different with Infiniband, SR-IOV and vNICS, IB partitions
- Management of the machine
o Managing and monitoring the switches
o Managing and monitoring the storage
o Working with ZFS projectes and shares
- ZFS snapshots and replication
- Managing and monitoring the compute nodes
Day 2
- Management of the machine (continued)
o Infiniband networking in combination with Oracle Exadata
o Oracle Exalogic Control : concepts and working with the Virtual Datacenter
- Manage Cloud accounts and users
- Create and manage Virtual Servers
- How to manage storage for vServers

- Create and manager custom vServer templates
- Automation of vServer related tasks
Day 3
- Oracle Exalogic Life Cycle Management (LCM) tools :
ExaCheck, ExaPatch, ExaBR, ExaLogs and more
- Patching: concepts and tooling overview
- Backup and recovery: concepts and tooling
- Security
- Oracle Traffic Director
Day 4
- Engineered Systems: getting things done from Oracle Support (from personal experience)
- Disaster Recovery: concepts
- Automatic Service Request: concepts
- Hybrid configurations: mixed Physical/Virtual setups
- and last but not least: a glimpse of where the future of Oracle Exalogic lies (12c version)
2.3 Pre-conditions
The following pre-conditions are of note :
- The training will be an overview of earlier mention topics. No hands-on assignments will be part of
the training;
- The training will be given on-site at the client in Nurnberg;
- Maximum number of trainees is 10 attendees;
- For providing the training an Internet connection, beamer and whiteboard should be available for the
trainer.
2.3 Suggested Pre- Prerequisites
It would be preferable if the attendees have knowledge and working experience with:
- Linux / preferable Oracle Unbreakable Linux
- Virtualization / preferable Oracle VM
