2. BBC Radio – Grimmy Chats To Emma
Watson
This is an interview featured on BBC radio featuring presenter Grimmy and his guest Emma
Watson. I will be analysing the technical sound features in certain segments of the interview.

3. Jingle
BBC Radio has its own jingle sound for the start of each broadcast. It features a woman introducing
Grim “Grimmy” Shaw. Jingles are a good way of introducing a show or identifying the radio show
because it’s catchy and is easy for audiences to remember.

4. Q&A
The radio show features Emma Watson as a guest on the show where Grim Shaw interviews her
by asking questions and she delivers him answers.

5. Phone-Ins
On the radio show Grim Shaw announces that Emma Watson will be on the radio show on twitter
which is an obligation for tweeters to reply with questions they would like to ask her. On the
show he then reads them out to her along with their @name.

6. Silence
Silence is not mentioned in any of the clips I have chosen to analyse however it’s purpose is to
build suspense. On a radio show a presenter could be announcing a winner for a competition and
before revealing the answer he could make big pauses for the suspense of the listeners.
In a show this is also used in similar ways, it could also be used to show horrific or sad events for
example if an iconic character is killed, there is silence to show how distraughtly that event is and
makes creates a sense of stillness in the world.
