Mood
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 08 July 2009 15:05
Address: 6623 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
323.464.6663
The Basics: People are always telling us what to do and what not to do. Cuando se trata de
consejos, and especially if you didn’t ask for them, you just ignore them. In spite of several
warnings about “Mood” nightclub, if you like to party hardy you know that it’s not really so
much about the place and the music as it is about the people you go with. Apparently there
are a couple of exceptions to that, and “Mood” happens to be one of them. Sure, the place is
conveniently located on Hollywood Blvd., it looks nice and inviting… but alas, looks can be
deceiving.

Club Electro Pop @ D Club
Written by Rafael Acero Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:30
Address: 975 E. Foothill Blvd.
Azusa, CA 91702
909.851.6961
The Basics: Si lo tuyo es el electro pop and all things electro, you can’t miss this new weekly
club taking place at D Club in Azusa. Starting Friday, April 17 2009, D Club will be hosting
“Club Electro Pop” este y todos los viernes. You’ll find the best local and international DJ’s
spinning the best electro funk all night long. This is the place to pop, lock and drop it like it’s
hot. Perhaps the only “ifs” and “buts” you can find on this place other than its unexpected
location in Azusa (who would have thought?!), it’s the fact that it’s 18 and over, por lo que te
vas a encontrar con mucho morrito… but don’t fret just yet… you’ll be surprised by how cool
and chill the mixed crowd can be.

Boulevard3
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:55
Address: 6523 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028
323.466.2144
The Basics: Nightlife in the City of Angels can be quite deceiving, especially for those who
have partied hard elsewhere. It all comes down to warehouses turned into antros… even the
ritziest y los más pipiris nice son igual. Sin embargo, no todos los antros por estos rumbos
fueron cortados con la misma tijera, there are a few exceptions. One of those happens to be
“Boulevard3”, perhaps one of the best looking and physically stunning nightclubs in the area.
“Boulevard3” is a gorgeous venue, spacious, with a modern and chic décor that will leave you
con la boca abierta, there are bars left and right, an outdoor area with cabana style seating,
fountains, and even fireplaces.

The Continental Room
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 28 January 2009 10:17
Address: 115 W. Santa Fe Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832 714.526.4529
The Basics: If you’re looking for joint to call “your own”, “The Continental Room” is the place
you’ll want to become a regular at. It has been around for quite some time now, and is still
standing strong. “The Continental Room” is cracking every day of the week, there’s always
something going on- it’s quite an eclectic joint as well. Depends on the night you choose to go
you’ll get a taste of Top 40, pop, dance, hip-hop, R&B, 80’s, soul, dub, indie rock, electro, even
salsa, live music and an Elvis impersonator on Wednesday nights. “The Continental Room” is a
60’s type lounge with a speakeasy vibe with warm and inviting vintage décor rich with red,
orange and yellow undertones- it definitely sets the mood and gets things going.
Club Ménage
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 13 January 2009 07:52
Address: 54 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA 91105
626.793.0608
The Basics: Nightlife has been slowly and steadily changing over time. Nowadays you don’t
have to drive all the way to Hollywood and Downtown L.A. for a pleasant and memorable
clubbing experience, now, do you? Yes and no. There are many venues opening and going
under new management that are trying to inject a taste of the L.A. / Hollywood nightlife to the
suburbs. The SGV has seen a growth thanks to Pasadena and its active nightlife. A club
formerly known as “Muse” has transformed into “Menage”, a three-floor nightclub spinning old-
school, hip-hop, dance, and lots of Top 40, filled with a mixed crowd, go-go dancers, fully
stocked bars, and stripper poles here and there.

The Ruby
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 16 December 2008 07:13
Address: 7070 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
323.467.7070
The Basics: If you’re an 80’s kid or you simply love all things 80’s regardless of your age- you
could be 18 or 43… you’ll find a place close to “home” at “The Ruby”. For a while now, “The
Ruby” has tended to an alternative crowd, shying away, not entirely though, from Top 40’s and
the Timbaland domination. While “The Ruby” is a nightclub, many view it as a refuge where
you can listen to, sing, and dance your arse off to 80’s, indie, electro, and some more 80’s- it
all depends on the night you go. Even though the crowd is mostly between 18-22 (since it’s
and 18+ venue) you’ll undoubtedly have a gay (as in happy) old time. While it’s a young crowd
it’s also very mixed and eclectic- you’ll find everything and everyone coming together without
any fuss- gay, straight, tranny, bi… you name it.

Monday Social @ Nacional
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 09 December 2008 08:08
Address: 1645 Wilcox Ave.
Hollywood, CA 90068
323.962.7712
The Basics: Nobody cares much for Mondays, if anything we all pretty much dread the day as
much as a visit to the dentist. Monday just marks the end of party-filled/ relaxing weekend as
well as the beginning of yet another tedious and stressful week jam-packed with lots of work,
tension and inevitable drama. To ease things up a bit and give you something to look forward
to on Mondays, the Bud Brothers bring you “Monday Social”, every Monday night (hence the
name, duh!) at Nacional club in Hollywood. “Monday Social” has been around for more than a
decade in different venues, but recently it started gaining popularity once again after it made
its transition to Nacional club.

King King
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 26 November 2008 05:54
Address: 6553 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
323.960.9234
The Basics: Just like most clubs in the SoCal area, “King King” didn’t start off as a club.
However, unlike other places, that follow the warehouse-turned-into-club formula, “King King”
is a former Chinese Restaurant turned nightclub on the corner of Sixth and La Brea. This gives
it a different aura and overall feel to it. Even though “King King” has been around for quite
some time, it has always stayed true to its roots- hosting a wide variety of events, all of them
centered on different types of music. While it’s a pretty eclectic place, house and alternative
are the predominant music genres at this club. Depending on the week night you go to, they
have bands playing and during the weekends “King King” turns into a mini-rave with DJ’s
spinning house all night long. Part of the charm of this club is that it’s rather small, thus
giving it a cozy feeling. Sometimes it feels more like a lounge rather than a nightclub.

Club V2O
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 11 November 2008 05:51
Address: 81 Aquarium Way
Long Beach, CA 90802
562.216.2060
The Basics: Long Beach nightlife can be a bit iffy. While it is more than convenient for those
of us that like to party like crazy yet hate the long drive to Downtown L.A. and the Hollywood
area, coming across a good nightclub might be more difficult than trying to catch a glimpse of
a sober Amy Winehouse. That’s why before heading to any party spots in Long Beach its
better to inform yourself and do some research. The Pike area has a couple of hotspots that
are quite busy during the weekend so a group of friend and I decided to head over that way
for a change. While “Mai Tai’s” was the obvious choice since the ambiance is dope, we wanted
to try something new, so instead we opted for “V20”, which is just a few feet away. As we
were walking towards the venue, we were asking fellow club-goers what they thought about
“V20”, unfortunately for us, they didn’t have many good things to say--- they were all heading
over to “Mai Tai’s”. In spite of the grim reviews, we decided to check it ourselves.

Club Instinct @ QC’s 20/20
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 21 October 2008 11:25
Address: 901 Via San Clemente
Montebello, CA 90640
Phone: 323.724.4500
The Basics: When you think of Montebello the last thing that comes to mind is clubbing-
there’s a mall, but that’s about it. Other than that, Montebello is just another drive-through
city. While there are some clubs outside the Downtown L.A./ Hollywood area, they seem to
lack that je ne sais quoi that makes other clubs so fly. There are a few that manage to deliver
an acceptable clubbing experience regardless of their location. “QC’s 20/20” is one of those
places. Now, I have been to “QC’s” several times, but all of them happened to be on a Friday,
and it gets crazy. Now, Saturdays it’s a whole different story.

The Vanguard
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 08 October 2008 05:58
Address: 6021 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
Phone: (323)463-3331
The Basics: “The Vanguard” is one of those L.A. nightclubs that have managed to survive
years of clubbing, the coming and going of trends and generations. At one point during the
90’s and still early in the millennium, “The Vanguard” was a well known hot-spot, the “it” place
to be not only for club goers and party monsters, but also for A-list celebrities. As almost every
nightclub in Los Angeles, with time “The Vanguard” has come to lose much of its hype;
however, it has still managed to hold on to its “lofty” status thanks to its decor and major DJs
spinning at least once a week.

The Highlands
Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 10 September 2008 06:07
Address: 6801 Hollywood Blvd # 433
Los Angeles, CA 90028
Phone: (323) 461-9800
The Basics: Friday nights have become an officially unofficial party-night. While I enjoy
trying new places and checking out new antros, Friday nights are usually reserved for my
regular hang-out place and favorite club so far. However, every night on our way to that
certain club my friends and I drive through Hollywood Blvd. and every weekend night there’s a
tremendous amount of people waiting to get in at “The Highlands”, but Fridays seemed to be
busier than the rest of the weekend. So last week we decided to check it out and see what the
fuzz was all about.

Giggles Nightclub
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 26 August 2008 03:45
Address: 215 N. Brand Blvd.
Glendale, CA 91203
Phone: (818)500-7800
The Basics: There are several clubs that have been around for quite some time. Some of
them “age” gracefully and can somewhat successfully continue to work even after their popular
days of glory and others simply collapse and turn into no-man’s land and eventually end up
shutting down. On the other hand, there are others that remain in between. It’s in that grey
area that we find “Giggles Nightclub”. Physically the venue is still looking good, however
nowadays many people are hesitant to get their groove on at “Giggles”- mainly for two
reasons: it’s all the way in Glendale, and it’s so 2000.

The Kress
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 19 August 2008 05:54
Address: 6608 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90028
Phone: (323)785-5000
The Basics: Clubbing in Los Angeles can be such an experience… let it be good or bad, you
won’t be disappointed. Now when it comes to the Hollywood nightlife, attitude and
pretentiousness are two things that come to mind. Yes, all the queens and the pompous
britches come out at night throwing attitude and labels like there’s no tomorrow. Not all clubs
are the same, following my parents’ advice (“¿Como sabes si algo te va a gustar o no si no le
das chance?”), I decided to give this new club a chance.

Florentine Gardens
Written by Rafael Acero Monday, 14 July 2008 03:18
Address: 5955 Hollywood Blvd
Hollywood, CA 90028
Phone: (323) 468-8873
The Basics: A couple years ago or perhaps even more than that, “Florentine Gardens” was the
place to be. It was definitely one of the hottest clubs in the area. Once a club or an
establishment of any sort hits its high, it has nowhere to go but down. Some clubs maintain a
certain level of “hipness”, and manage to go down gracefully. Others just crumble and fall six
feet under. “Florentine Gardens” happened to fall flat on its face. Nowadays when you
mention the name three words come to mind: ghetto, tacky, and hell-to-the-no. But just like
some fall and stay down below, others struggle to come back to life.

Air Conditioned Supper Club
Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 17 June 2008 08:00
Address: 625 Lincoln Blvd
Venice, CA 90291
Phone: (310) 230-5343
The Basics:
“Air Conditioned” comes to you just like the name suggests- like a breath of cool fresh air. It has all that it
takes to become a great party destination: newly remodeled building, good service, strong drinks, reasonable
prices, and a pretty decent guy-to-girl ratio that makes it also a great singles club. in addition to that, there
is no cover charge to go in and definitely none of the B.S. that usually comes along with guest lists and stuff
like that- it’s a first-come first-serve kind of joint.

Perhaps the only “ifs” and “buts” you can find on this place other than its unexpected location in Azusa (who would have thought?!), it’s the fact that it’s 18 and over, por lo que te vas a encontrar con mucho morrito… but don’t fret just yet… you’ll be surprised by how cool and chill the mixed crowd can be. • 2. Boulevard3 Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:55 Address: 6523 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028 323.466.2144 The Basics: Nightlife in the City of Angels can be quite deceiving, especially for those who have partied hard elsewhere. It all comes down to warehouses turned into antros… even the ritziest y los más pipiris nice son igual. Sin embargo, no todos los antros por estos rumbos fueron cortados con la misma tijera, there are a few exceptions. One of those happens to be “Boulevard3”, perhaps one of the best looking and physically stunning nightclubs in the area. “Boulevard3” is a gorgeous venue, spacious, with a modern and chic décor that will leave you con la boca abierta, there are bars left and right, an outdoor area with cabana style seating, fountains, and even fireplaces. Santa Fe Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832 714.526.4529 The Basics: If you’re looking for joint to call “your own”, “The Continental Room” is the place you’ll want to become a regular at. It has been around for quite some time now, and is still standing strong. “The Continental Room” is cracking every day of the week, there’s always something going on- it’s quite an eclectic joint as well. Depends on the night you choose to go you’ll get a taste of Top 40, pop, dance, hip-hop, R&B, 80’s, soul, dub, indie rock, electro, even salsa, live music and an Elvis impersonator on Wednesday nights. “The Continental Room” is a 60’s type lounge with a speakeasy vibe with warm and inviting vintage décor rich with red, orange and yellow undertones- it definitely sets the mood and gets things going. • 3. Address: 54 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91105 626.793.0608 The Basics: Nightlife has been slowly and steadily changing over time. Nowadays you don’t have to drive all the way to Hollywood and Downtown L.A. for a pleasant and memorable clubbing experience, now, do you? Yes and no. There are many venues opening and going under new management that are trying to inject a taste of the L.A. / Hollywood nightlife to the suburbs. The SGV has seen a growth thanks to Pasadena and its active nightlife. A club formerly known as “Muse” has transformed into “Menage”, a three-floor nightclub spinning old- school, hip-hop, dance, and lots of Top 40, filled with a mixed crowd, go-go dancers, fully stocked bars, and stripper poles here and there. For a while now, “The Ruby” has tended to an alternative crowd, shying away, not entirely though, from Top 40’s and the Timbaland domination. While “The Ruby” is a nightclub, many view it as a refuge where you can listen to, sing, and dance your arse off to 80’s, indie, electro, and some more 80’s- it all depends on the night you go. Even though the crowd is mostly between 18-22 (since it’s and 18+ venue) you’ll undoubtedly have a gay (as in happy) old time. While it’s a young crowd it’s also very mixed and eclectic- you’ll find everything and everyone coming together without any fuss- gay, straight, tranny, bi… you name it. Monday just marks the end of party-filled/ relaxing weekend as well as the beginning of yet another tedious and stressful week jam-packed with lots of work, tension and inevitable drama. To ease things up a bit and give you something to look forward to on Mondays, the Bud Brothers bring you “Monday Social”, every Monday night (hence the name, duh!) at Nacional club in Hollywood. “Monday Social” has been around for more than a decade in different venues, but recently it started gaining popularity once again after it made its transition to Nacional club. • 4. King King Written by Rafael Acero Wednesday, 26 November 2008 05:54 Address: 6553 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028 323.960.9234 The Basics: Just like most clubs in the SoCal area, “King King” didn’t start off as a club. However, unlike other places, that follow the warehouse-turned-into-club formula, “King King” is a former Chinese Restaurant turned nightclub on the corner of Sixth and La Brea. This gives it a different aura and overall feel to it. Even though “King King” has been around for quite some time, it has always stayed true to its roots- hosting a wide variety of events, all of them centered on different types of music. While it’s a pretty eclectic place, house and alternative are the predominant music genres at this club. Depending on the week night you go to, they have bands playing and during the weekends “King King” turns into a mini-rave with DJ’s spinning house all night long. Part of the charm of this club is that it’s rather small, thus giving it a cozy feeling. Sometimes it feels more like a lounge rather than a nightclub. Read more: King King Club V2O Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 11 November 2008 05:51 Address: 81 Aquarium Way Long Beach, CA 90802 562.216.2060 The Basics: Long Beach nightlife can be a bit iffy. While it is more than convenient for those of us that like to party like crazy yet hate the long drive to Downtown L.A. and the Hollywood area, coming across a good nightclub might be more difficult than trying to catch a glimpse of a sober Amy Winehouse. That’s why before heading to any party spots in Long Beach its better to inform yourself and do some research. The Pike area has a couple of hotspots that are quite busy during the weekend so a group of friend and I decided to head over that way for a change. While “Mai Tai’s” was the obvious choice since the ambiance is dope, we wanted to try something new, so instead we opted for “V20”, which is just a few feet away. As we were walking towards the venue, we were asking fellow club-goers what they thought about “V20”, unfortunately for us, they didn’t have many good things to say--- they were all heading over to “Mai Tai’s”. In spite of the grim reviews, we decided to check it ourselves. Read more: Club V2O Club Instinct @ QC’s 20/20 Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 21 October 2008 11:25
  • 5. Address: 901 Via San Clemente Montebello, CA 90640 Phone: 323.724.4500 The Basics: When you think of Montebello the last thing that comes to mind is clubbing- there’s a mall, but that’s about it. Other than that, Montebello is just another drive-through city. While there are some clubs outside the Downtown L.A./ Hollywood area, they seem to lack that je ne sais quoi that makes other clubs so fly. There are a few that manage to deliver an acceptable clubbing experience regardless of their location. “QC’s 20/20” is one of those places. Now, I have been to “QC’s” several times, but all of them happened to be on a Friday, and it gets crazy. Now, Saturdays it’s a whole different story. At one point during the 90’s and still early in the millennium, “The Vanguard” was a well known hot-spot, the “it” place to be not only for club goers and party monsters, but also for A-list celebrities. As almost every nightclub in Los Angeles, with time “The Vanguard” has come to lose much of its hype; however, it has still managed to hold on to its “lofty” status thanks to its decor and major DJs spinning at least once a week. While I enjoy trying new places and checking out new antros, Friday nights are usually reserved for my regular hang-out place and favorite club so far. However, every night on our way to that certain club my friends and I drive through Hollywood Blvd. and every weekend night there’s a tremendous amount of people waiting to get in at “The Highlands”, but Fridays seemed to be busier than the rest of the weekend. So last week we decided to check it out and see what the fuzz was all about. Read more: The Highlands
  • 6. Giggles Nightclub Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 26 August 2008 03:45 Address: 215 N. Brand Blvd. Glendale, CA 91203 Phone: (818)500-7800 The Basics: There are several clubs that have been around for quite some time. Some of them “age” gracefully and can somewhat successfully continue to work even after their popular days of glory and others simply collapse and turn into no-man’s land and eventually end up shutting down. On the other hand, there are others that remain in between. It’s in that grey area that we find “Giggles Nightclub”. Physically the venue is still looking good, however nowadays many people are hesitant to get their groove on at “Giggles”- mainly for two reasons: it’s all the way in Glendale, and it’s so 2000. Read more: Giggles Nightclub The Kress Written by Rafael Acero Tuesday, 19 August 2008 05:54 Address: 6608 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028 Phone: (323)785-5000 The Basics: Clubbing in Los Angeles can be such an experience… let it be good or bad, you won’t be disappointed. Now when it comes to the Hollywood nightlife, attitude and pretentiousness are two things that come to mind. Yes, all the queens and the pompous britches come out at night throwing attitude and labels like there’s no tomorrow. Not all clubs are the same, following my parents’ advice (“¿Como sabes si algo te va a gustar o no si no le das chance?”), I decided to give this new club a chance. It was definitely one of the hottest clubs in the area. Once a club or an establishment of any sort hits its high, it has nowhere to go but down. Some clubs maintain a certain level of “hipness”, and manage to go down gracefully. Others just crumble and fall six feet under. “Florentine Gardens” happened to fall flat on its face. Nowadays when you mention the name three words come to mind: ghetto, tacky, and hell-to-the-no. But just like some fall and stay down below, others struggle to come back to life.

It has all that it takes to become a great party destination: newly remodeled building, good service, strong drinks, reasonable prices, and a pretty decent guy-to-girl ratio that makes it also a great singles club. in addition to that, there is no cover charge to go in and definitely none of the B.S. that usually comes along with guest lists and stuff like that- it’s a first-come first-serve kind of joint.
