ECUADOR
ILLITERACY
The situation of education in Ecuador is
dramatic, characterised by: persistence
of illiteracy, low levels of schooling,
repetition rates, high school dropout,
poor quality of education, poor
educational infrastructure and
educational material.
Illiteracy is associated with the absence
of opportunities for access to the
school, and the problem is related to
the low quality of schooling and with
the phenomena of repellence and
desertion.

The national program for basic education for young people and adults
(EBJA) for the period 2011 - 2013 is aimed at reducing the illiteracy rate in 2,

13. BUDGET LED TO EDUCATION
EDUCATION BUDGET WITH LOW GROWTH

% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2011, to 5.8 %
