To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter of recommendation for John Glenning. I had the
pleasure of working with John from 1981 through 1990 at IBM. I worked in
the same organization with John during that time. John worked in the First
Level Packaging/Flexible Circuit Process Development organization when I
was the Senior Engineer and Development Manager in the same
organization. I have known John since IBM hired him out of college.
John’s enthusiasm and drive as an engineer have always impressed me. He
was always willing to take on new challenges and he was a success in all the
projects assigned to him.
I was particularly impressed with the work he did in the development of a
Kapton Etch process for the Flexible Circuit Process Development
organization. I was responsible for the concept, development and
installation of the new Flexible Circuit Manufacturing Line at the Endicott
facility. John was tasked to develop one of the two new manufacturing
processes for this new manufacturing line. His work led to a number of US
Patents. John was asked to develop a new process that did not exist in IBM.
John initially engaged IBM’s Research and Development organization at
Yorktown Heights to come up with an acceptable manufacturing process.
From this, John did the basic laboratory process development. John had to
procure and install an interim production tool to build early manufacturing
hardware. At the same time, John took charge of bringing on line the
ultimate manufacturing process, which included installing and debugging an
environmentally sensitive process that met all the requirements of the
facility. This project was done within budget and on time. I was very
impressed with John’s overall project management skills.
