Software is disrupting industries. Startups are changing the playing field. This trend is only speeding up. Existing companies struggle to deal with this. It feels like their IT is stuck in groundhog day. They need to radically change how they manage application lifecycles to get out of this. All steps in the lifecycle need to be improved. Key innovations they need are Model-Driven Development (and thereby empowering business engineers to develop apps) and cloud platforms. Building blocks from each cloud layer are needed: Infra-structure-as-a-Service (IaaS), (Foundational) Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Model-Driven PaaS, App Services, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

Trends like internet-of-things and bigdata will only increase the need for new apps…A radical change in application delivery is needed!
A small intermezzo: we said that the need for apps and changes in apps is exponentially growing. And most IT departments cannot even cope with the demand now!A radical change in productivity is needed!
Explain: each layer gradually moves from focusing on infra engineers towards developers, towards end-users.
We have seen that software is disrupting industries…Trends like internet-of-things and bigdata will only increase the need for new apps…A radical change in application delivery is needed! We need to improve the entire lifecycle of an app: not only how we deploy it (cloud), but also how we build it (models), how we design it (agile + models) and how we operate it (cloud). The lifecycle needs to be iterative and foster collaboration among all stakeholders. To be able to do so we need to take a different approach for our (platform) architecture. What cells do you need in your organization and how are you going to cover them?
