IBM FlashSystem 900 and V9000 are all-flash storage systems that are used to make applications and data centers faster and more efficient. IBM
engineers FlashSystem 900 with a relentless focus on lowering latency for data accesses. The value your business gets from an all-flash system is directly
related to its latency. For applications that need to go fast, MicroLatency matters; OLTP, analytics, virtual desktops, and cloud infrastructures all perform
better with MicroLatency.

What’s new
• IBM XIV delivers dramatic cost savings using field-
proven, inline IBM Real-time Compression and
without need for extra hardware:
• Brings IBM Random Access Compression Engine
(RACE) technology to the system software and
leverages the XIV grid architecture to scale
performance and simplify compression management
• Increases usable capacity per rack typically to one
petabyte or more with Real-time Compression, greatly
reducing effective cost per capacity
• Replicates compressed data faster and using less
bandwidth, freeing up bandwidth for other uses
• Continuously displays predicted or actual compression
ratios for all volumes
• Converts non-compressed volumes to compressed
non-disruptively
• Enables license acquisition on new XIV systems and by
software upgrade to existing XIV Gen3 systems
This week IBM announced the launch of XIV Gen3 Turbo Compression. This
isn’t a commercial jet engine, though its name may sound like one.
Nonetheless, we are expecting this new model to turbocharge XIV sales.
XIV Gen3 leverages its unique grid storage architecture to provide a tuning-free
cloud storage solution with simplified scalability and management that results
in dramatically reduced capital outlays and operational expenses. The new
Turbo Compression model incorporates an enhanced implementation of IBM
Real-time Compression™ with all-in-one licensing as part of its base
configuration. Together, these new features and capabilities will drive XIV TCO
down even further.

Leveraging the Power of the XIV Grid
• XIV Gen3 can have up to 15 RACE engines, depending on the XIV rack
configuration. These RACE engines compress and decompress data in
parallel
In XIV, Real-time Compression is distributed across a grid.
In a 15-module XIV system, 180 CPU cores are processing every volume’s I/O in parallel (including Real-time
Compression)
