1. 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
I used a variety of media technologies so that I was able to produce my music video. Some of the
media technologies included filming devices, internet, editing sites and social networking.
I used the internet to find research on three digipack. I choose the artists Rihanna, Emilie Sande and
Mumford and Sons. I choose these artists as I wanted to compare each genres way of portraying the
artist and how they manipulate audiences into buying the CD by making it appeal to specifically
them.
When creating my ancillary products I used the software Adobe Photoshop featured on my
computer. I used various techniques on the software so that I was able to create a suitable ancillary
that would eventually lead to a completed digipack. To get an appropriate style of font that would
appeal to my audience I used the website ‘dafont’. I then typed in my selected artists name and print
screened it onto a word document. After cropping around my artists name I then copied the image
into Adobe Photoshop where I was able to edit it further and place it onto my ancillary product. I
also changed the colour of my image
I used a variety of media technologies whilst researching and planning how to create my music
video. I used the software ‘MindGenius’ when planning my initial ideas, creating branches on
different conventions so that I was able to choose more easily to which route I wanted to take. I
used the software ‘Slideshare’ to convert certain documents into embed codes making it easier for
me to place onto my blog.
I used an iPhone to film the majority of filming for my video. I found this to be more useful as for
parts of my video I wanted a handheld effect which would give the video a more personal touch. It
was also easier to film the video on the iPhone rather than the Panasonic video camera. This was
because the iPhone was easy to carry around due to its shape and weight; I also usually carry my
iPhone with me at all times. The Panasonic however is a large video device to which I found difficult
to travel with. The video quality of the iPhone I found to be just as clear as the Panasonic which is
why I choose to do this. I still however used the Panasonic camera for parts when first creating my
video. When placing the footage onto the computer I had to use a USB lead however at some points
during the process of editing we were unable to use this way of placing the footage onto the
computer and so had to send the footage from the iPhone on email.
I used Adobe Premierwhilst editing my music video. This software enabled me to cut parts of my
footage so that I was left with only the parts that I needed. I could then place the footage at
appropriate times making sure it fitted with the song and matched the lyrics. It also allowed me to
add effects such as fades so that the footage runned more smoothly and fitted better with the song.
As my original footage picked up sound that I did not want in my music video I simply deleted it
using the cut button.
The social networking site Facebook was used whilst evaluating my music video as I set up a ‘Media
Focus Group’. The focus group consisted of me inviting a group of individuals to the group where I
had placed my music video with a set of questions. This was successful as I ended up getting
feedback back.
2. We use digital technology to distribute media from the same machine. This is an example of
technological convergence. It is only recently we have been able to do this for example in the past
you would have to record a song in a studio however in today’s day’n’age we are able to record a
song using an app such as ‘logic’ on our very own ipads. I have used technological convergence
through editing my music video on Adobe, turning it into an MP4 and then distributing it to a
worldwide audience on YouTube.
