ORDER N. 6 S.1982)The New Elementary School Curriculum
(NSEC) orients elementary education to
national development requirements and
reflects research-based directions for curricular
change. It is addressed to civic, intellectual and
character development. Its scope covers the
general education of the child as a human
person, as a citizen and as a productive agent.

Filipino children especially in molding them as
human persons, as a good citizens and productive
agents for economic, social and cultural
development. The curriculum provides every Filipino
child the basic preparation to become an
enlightened, disciplined, nationalistic, self reliant,
God-loving, creative, versatile and productive.

Basically the NESC is an outcome-
oriented and not a subject-oriented
curriculum with its main focus being on
the learning process, and not on the
subjects.
NESC – SALIENT FEATURES
- Fewer learning areas; emphasis on
mastery learning.
- More time allotted to the development of
the basic skills specifically the 3R’s
especially in the lower grades.
- It has 3R’s as it’s core of learning.

NESC – SALIENT FEATURES
- As implemented, in the primary level
(Grade I to 4), the NESC had only four (from
nine) subjects areas, which are English,
Mathematics, Filipino, and Civics and
Culture. The last subject incorporates history,
geography, society, politics, and government
and is aimed at making pupils nationalistic
and patriotic.
NESC – SALIENT FEATURES
- Focus on the development of a sense of
humanity and nationhood in the learning
areas.
- Health values development infused into
the whole curriculum, not only in the
period for character-building activities and
science and health.

- Greater emphasis on the development
of intellectual skills which are as important
as work skills.
NESC – SALIENT FEATURES
- The systematic development of
competencies and values for social living
reflected in the new dimension in Civics
and Culture expanded to include History,
Geography and Work Ethics for Grade III,
and an in-depth learning of History,
Geography and Civics in Grade IV to VI.

- Overcrowding of subjects
- No mastery of subject matters
- Deficiency in reading ability
-The NESC offers too many subjects. This
will result in knowing more of the subjects
and less of the content. With this number
of subjects, the students will get bored and
cannot concentrate well and even neglect

NESC – THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM (MEC ORDER N. 6 S.1982)The New Elementary School Curriculum (NSEC) orients elementary education to national development requirements and reflects research-based directions for curricular change. It is addressed to civic, intellectual and character development. Its scope covers the general education of the child as a human person, as a citizen and as a productive agent.

NESC – THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM (MEC ORDER N. 6 S.1982)The NESC curriculum is of great help to the Filipino children especially in molding them as human persons, as a good citizens and productive agents for economic, social and cultural development. The curriculum provides every Filipino child the basic preparation to become an enlightened, disciplined, nationalistic, self reliant, God-loving, creative, versatile and productive.
  • 4. NESC – THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM (MEC ORDER N. 6 S.1982) Basically the NESC is an outcome- oriented and not a subject-oriented curriculum with its main focus being on the learning process, and not on the subjects.
  • 5. NESC – SALIENT FEATURES - Fewer learning areas; emphasis on mastery learning. - More time allotted to the development of the basic skills specifically the 3R’s especially in the lower grades. - It has 3R’s as it’s core of learning. Reading, Writing, and arithmetic)

NESC – SALIENT FEATURES - As implemented, in the primary level (Grade I to 4), the NESC had only four (from nine) subjects areas, which are English, Mathematics, Filipino, and Civics and Culture. The last subject incorporates history, geography, society, politics, and government and is aimed at making pupils nationalistic and patriotic.
  • 7. NESC – SALIENT FEATURES - Focus on the development of a sense of humanity and nationhood in the learning areas. - Health values development infused into the whole curriculum, not only in the period for character-building activities and science and health.
  • 8. NESC – SALIENT FEATURES - Greater emphasis on the development of intellectual skills which are as important as work skills.

NESC – SALIENT FEATURES - The systematic development of competencies and values for social living reflected in the new dimension in Civics and Culture expanded to include History, Geography and Work Ethics for Grade III, and an in-depth learning of History, Geography and Civics in Grade IV to VI.
