Present Simple
Let's speak about our routines!
When do we use it?
We use it to speak about routines and general things.
For example, you may use it to describe:
- what you and your friends like,
- what you and your family normally do,
or...
- any other suggestions?
But... what's its form?
In affirmative sentences, we
just use the infinitive
(that is, play, go, like...),
and add an "s" to the third
person singular (he, she, it,
Laura, Tom, my friend...):

I like
You like
He likes
She likes
It likes
We like
You like
They like
What about the negative sentences?
In negative sentences we
need the auxiliar "do" in
order to add the negation
"not": do not or don't.
Do you remember the "s" for
the 3rd person singular?
This time we will add it to
the auxiliar, so it will be
"does".
It's easier than it seems,
look!

I don't like
You don't like
He doesn't like
She doesn't like
It doesn't like
We don't like
You don't like
They don't like
And for questions?
You know all questions need
an auxiliar at the begining.
Which auxiliar do you think
we need? Do, of course!
And does for the 3rd person
singular, don't forget!

Do I like?
Do you like?
Does he like?
Does she like?
Do we like?
Do you like?
Do they like?
And finally... short answers.
What about short answers?
It's easy: you just need the
auxiliar, so...
Yes, I do/ No, I don't.
Yes, you do/ No, you don't.

Yes, he does/ No, he
doesn't.
Yes, she does/ No, she
doesn't.
Yes, it does/ No, it doesn't.
Yes, we do/ No, we don't.
Yes, you do/ No, you don't.
Yes, they do/ No, they don't.
Isn't it easy?
Let's practice a bit!
I like chocolate, and my sister likes it too. Do you like
chocolate?
I don't like vegetables very much, but my mum loves them...
Do you eat vegetables? Do you eat them very often?
I know that fruit is really healthy, and yummy, too! So I
usually eat fruit, but my sister doesn't. What about you?
