2. I was one who did not feel like my
vote mattered because there are so
many other people out there voting.
Though my Memaw has always
hounded me for thinking that way, I
still did. The more history classes I
take, the less I feel like my vote
doesn’t matter. I am so grateful we,
as citizens, get the opportunity to get
a say in how our state and nation is
taken care of. That is the main reason
I want to vote.
WHAT MAKES ME
WANT TO VOTE
THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO
SEE CHANGE
A couple of things I wouldn’t
mind to see change or become
a part of how we vote are
same day voter’s registrations
and online voter’s
registration. I believe we
would see a higher voter turn
out if we started to use both
of those registration tactics.
THINGS THAT
SHOULD NOT
CHANGE
• The number of
jobs that keeps
increasing.
• No personal
state tax
income.
• Being cheaper
than A LOT of
other states.
3. THINGS I DID NOT KNOW BEFORE
THIS CLASS:
What Home rule cities and General law cities are!
That Texas has the most executions from the death penalty in our nation!
The lack of power our governor has!
4. IMMIGRATION
✭ Immigration is without a doubt one of the most important (if not
THE most important) issues that we definitely need to take into
consideration on how it will affect our upcoming and future
generations. Immigration is not only effecting Texas, but The
United States as a whole. A solution to immigration would be to
find a way to protect our borders safely, but also allowing the
people of Mexico to legally gain citizenship. If we do not, this is an
issue that will affect our upcoming and future generations until we
find a solution.
5. WHAT ROLES DOES TEXAS PLAY IN
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECISIONS?
• Texas has the most electoral members (at 38), which gives us a big
advantage. Since there are decisions that are dependent on the
states’ electoral members, having this many gives us a “one-up” on
other states.
• Texas’ population is abundant. With as many Texas citizens that
there are, I am confident we have a better chance at getting what we
want/need done, done.
6. LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED:
• Texas leads at the top of the nation in executions of for the death
penalty.
• Our voter turnout is not where it needs to be.
• Something I will take with me after this course is encouraging
Texas citizens to get involved. Remind them that their vote counts
and it is so important that they participate!
