Vote for this SXSWi 2015 proposal titled How a library visit will differentiate your brand. Targeted to innovators, content creators & brand managers. How have childhood librarians shaped culture and how will their cognitive science skills influence the next marketing innovators? It’s hard to imagine a child’s school without a library. Soon, it will be hard to imagine our culture without cognitive science. In recent years we’ve had Google at our finger tips deciphering our mind with each letter typed and have seen IBM Watson demonstrate a nuanced understanding of taste. Brands and the technology that powers them are becoming today’s librarians, cognitive science concierges, that seek, gather, and filter by understanding your intentions and increasing the potential solutions available. Yet despite these widespread examples, our world remains devoid of cognitive information systems that meet our needs. We regularly loose valuable content in a sea of bounty and spend countless man-hours hunting for it. This session will explore the role that library and cognitive science technologies have had in the evolution of culture and marketing and will demonstrate the rational behind decisions like that of Netflix hiring “film taggers.”
