  1. ARTIFICIAL PASSENGER Prepared by K.JAYATEJA 20311A0451 ECE-C1
  2. CONTENTS INTRODUCTION EXISTING SYSTEM WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL PASSENGER WORKING COMPONENTS USED APPLICATIONS CONCLUSION
  3. INTRODUCTION •According to national survey in UK and USA it is observed that the driver fatigue annually causes 1000 crashes 1500 deaths 7100 injuries •Majority of road accidents observed were caused by eye closure of one-half second to as long as 2 to 3 seconds.
  4. EXISTING SYSTEM Use of stimulation drinks like tea or coffee. Take some tablets to prevent sleeping.
  5. In order to avoid the disadvantages of the existing system, IBM developed a software to determine whether the driver can respond alertly enough. The device is named as “ARTIFICIAL PASSENGER”.
  6. What is artificial passenger? • Artificial passenger is widely used to prevent accident. • Artificial passenger device is also used for entertainment such as telling jokes and asking questions.
  7. • If the driver gets a heart attack or he is drunk, it will send signals to vehicles nearby about this so that the driver there becomes alert. • Therefore this is a natural language companion and acts as a life safety system.
  8. About artificial passenger  Resident in the software and chips embedded in the automobile dashboard.  The heart of the system is a conversation planner that holds the profile of one or more drivers including details of his interests and profession.
  9.  A microphone picks up the driver’s answer and breaks it down to separate words with speech recognition software.  An in-built camera placed on the dash board keeps track of the driver’s facial state.  A voice analyzer looks for signs of tiredness.
  10.  If the driver replies clearly and quickly then he is alert.  If the response is slow the device assumes that he is sleepy.  If he is not active the AP will try to get the attention of the driver by even sprinkling water onto the driver’s face.
  11. Touch sensitive wheel The driver can answer a call using the touch sensitive wheel. It is the touch sensitive wheel.
  12. Speech recognition device
  13. Camera A camera is used to keep track of lips movement.
  14. Components used…  Automatic speech recognition.(ASR)  Natural language processor.(NLP)  Driver analyzer.  Conversational planner  Alarm .  External service provider.
  15. o Automatic speech recognition (ASR)  Decodes the driver’s voice using natural language processor. o Natural language processor (NLP)  Processes the decoded signal.  Produces variants of responses according to the driver’s input. o Driver analyzer  Receives the voice data and measures the time of response.
  16. o Conversational planner (CP)  Instruct the natural language processor to produce the response. o Alarm  If the planner receives information that driver is asleep, it activates the alarm system. o External service provider  This also has a wireless internet which is used to constantly update the NLP library.
  17. Working  Aiming a single camera at the head of the driver.  Detecting the frequencies of the head movements of the driver within a selected time period.  Determine frequency of eye blinking and eye closing.
  18.  Determine frequency of yawning of the driver within selected time period.  Generating an alarm signal if the above frequencies exceed a selected threshold value.
  19. APPLICATIONS  Prevent driver from falling asleep during long trips.  Open and close the windows of the car automatically.  It is also used for entertainment.
  20. Future applications  In the future based on road, weather and traffic conditions AP will provide the driver with shortest time routing.  This is done with the help of GPS.
  21. CONCLUSION  Artificial passenger is an effective mechanism to prevent driver fatigue.  Successful implementation of this would decrease road accidents to a great extent.
