2. Location
For my music video, there will 4 main settings. It is a
common convention for the chillwave genre to be set
outside, the setting must reflect the “chill” music of
this genre.
The music video will be broken down in 3 different
stages in which there will be a different setting for
each stage.
The first setting will be set in a park, my character will
be casually strolling suggesting an ordinary day.
The second setting of the second sequence will be in a
forest/ woods. My character will wind up getting lost
from following the mysterious person. Forests/
woods are usually a connotation of being lost/
confused.
The third setting will be in a hilltop, this is the part
where the main character finds out who the
mysterious person is, the main character will then
suffer a heart attack.
The fourth setting will be intercutting between the
main three sequences, this fourth setting will be a
white brightly lit room and this is where I will be
shooting the performance lip sync.
4. Park
For the first sequence I will be shooting it in a
park, A good location to film this would be in
Arnold Park or Woodthorpe Park in
Nottingham.
With the chillwave genre there is attention to
nature, the mise en scene is also detailed so I
must ensure I capture the correct footages in
this environment.
The first sequence will show my character
strolling along in a park, this will suggest the
idea of an ordinary day. There will be many
shots of the surrounding intercutting with the
narrative.
As the park will be a connotation of an ordinary
day, I will need to make sure that I use the
correct camera shots and angles to convey the
idea of a normal day therefore no canted
framing.
6. Woods/ Forest
For the second sequence, I will be shooting in the
woods, ideally I will want to film in Sherwood
Forest, Nottingham.
Many chillwave music videos are filmed in the
woods as it is quiet place where one can hear
the surrounding/ nature. A forest also has the
connotation of being lost/ confused, with
chillwave music the forest is a symbol for
escapism; and being immersed and lost in the
music.
The second sequence will lead to the main
character noticing a familiar but mysterious
person. This person will lead the main
character into a forest, the main character is
shown to be confused and lost.
For this sequence I will need to make sure I
maintain the enigma of the mysterious person I
should also consider using canted framing shots
to convey the idea of being disorientated,
confused, and lost.
8. Hilltop
For the second sequence, I will be filming in a hill,
the music video will end in a hilltop. Ideally I
will want to film in a place where the hill is
steep and has a pavement and stairs.
The sequence that will take place in this hilltop is
the revelation of who the main character was
following which was his spiritual self. The main
character will than suffer from a heart attack at
which point his spiritual self will lay him down
on the hilltop.
The idea behind this hill setting is to connote the
idea of passing into heaven/ after life, or can be
a connotation of leaving the world.
I also chose type of setting as it is beautiful
natural formation and is a peaceful setting. I
can also incorporate some time-lapse of the
clouds on top of the hill.
10. White Room
The white room will be the setting for the
performance of my music video i.e. The lip
syncing. I will need a white room that can
be free for me to use, it should also be a
room that I can play about with. I plan to
use the schools art room as it is a white
room that is brightly lit and I have the
permission to use it as I am an art student.
The idea behind using a white room is to
suggest the idea of being in a spiritual world
i.e. Heaven/ after life. In this setting I will
be lip syncing to the song and this scene
will intercut between the 3 sequences of my
music video.
