5 Good reasons
Scalability Autonomy Continuity Adaptability Cybersecurity
Software developer – we arent a distributor we are the people that created the software and we support it.
Roots in nuclear but just as at home in transport as we are in Nuclear. Product is not vertically focused its made to be open architecutre so that you can design applications how you want to with no restraints.
Paris – Short trip over and in a little suburb just outside. Pop over for Cheese and wine every month. Really responsive and friendly team speak better english than I do
30,000 active licences £1.5million of that is us in Chester
You may not have heard of us but this is what we do
EDF – Just renewed a worldwide agreement for supply and support with Codra up until 2026 which shows the trust EDF have with us.
Large infrastructure companies rely on and trust Panorama
DRAX – they provide 9% of the UK’s electricity including 15% of its renewable power
Network Rail – Power SCADA. If you’ve ever travelled on an electric train in the UK if you have ever ridden on an electric train on the London Underground then you will have indirectly encountered Panorama as we provide systems that control and manage the power to those trains
London Underground – Station Management systems – everything you see in the station
Bank of England – Is a BMS system with highly controlled temperature, ventilation, energy, lighting and security systems and because of what it is managing you can imagine the requirement for a high quality, robust system
CEA – is the original customer of Codra for both military and civil atomic energy applications and where the products roots come from. It is also the largest installation. To give you an idea of the scale of some of the larger projects our biggest project LMJ Laser Mega Joule which has 300 workstations, 80 pairs of redundant servers and the tag count or I/O Count is 3 million points of data. So a pretty hefty system
Transport – Tunnels, management of airports whether its baggage or the paris Airport metrolink system, platform operation, CCTV we really are strong in this sector in both the UK and the rest of Europe.
Energy – efficiency, optimisation, thermal geothermal, hydroelectric plants
Nuclear – Large Scale SCADA EDF use Panorama is used in a Nuclear Safety system
Manufacturing – Industrial automation such as process control food and bev pharmaceutical
Water – Vinci Energies
Research facilities – don’t make anything but they use us. Atomic Energy but they do research something using SCADA.
Defence – we have a number of military applications which I’d love to tell you about but we look after the French nuclear deterrent
Like to work as a team and this is where we have had the best success
We can help with specifications and expectations of what the product can do and then help ensure that this can be delivered in the project.
Some of our more talented integrators can use our product to provide innovative solutions such as with the use of new technologies such as IoT or our Mobile application
We are product specialists though and so it makes sense to bring us in where possible to prove concepts or help with writing specifications or supporting bids and proposals. Our biggest successes and our most successful partners bring us in to help
See our role as knowledge transfer and support to work with them to deliver the project.
Biggest asset is our reputation. We have never failed on a project with a customer.
We rely on that feedback loop to provide value to their projects or new innovations.
– Great example of this is with DRAX Power - We know that we can’t rely on our system integrator although highly skilled to sell our product as we are the specialists in what we do. So we can help explain and manage expectations so the user of the solution knows exactly what they are getting and can support the SI with the right technical knowledge. We will then work with the system integrator to deliver that project and stand with them to deliver the best solution.
Knowledge transfer to both the end user and the system integrator.
Partners turn our generic product into a vertical market solution How we get from a tool into a vertical solution
SI – We’d like to add you to that list
Story – we do what everybody else does – we train people and give technical support. Where we are different is that we want to bring something to the project by handholding. We bring knowledge from many different industries and many projects. This is what we bring to the party.
So What is a SCADA platform
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
We label it a SCADA as its difficult to put a flag in it…its more like a real time data platform.
But for the purposes of what Panorama does at its core
This slides for people that dont know SCADA
In simple terms what do we do. These are the five things that we do and we do it in real time. Elevator pitch of what we do in Panorama.
Where do we sit.
This is a traditional definition of where a SCADA system sits. Above the instrumentation sensors and the PLC’s and more around the control and operations layer acquiring and displaying data for operatives but also encroaching into Manufacturing Execution Systems
MES layer optimize your plant process and make real time decisions and panorama allows you to do that
Calculate that data
Measure your results
optimise your process with the knowledge that data gives you
Major principle of what the software does
Major principle of what we do we arent just providing a licence and letting you get on with it. With Codra you have 33 years of experience delivering projects big or small and we bring that knowledge to mitigate risk and help you deliver that to your end users.
Mr Oddoux – in my interview said that there isn’t a Panorama project that we haven’t successfully installed to completion. He said it very seriously but from my experience we do everything we can to ensure integrity in both the company and the product.
All comes together like this. Series of data sources. Could be SCADA, CCTV
Protocols to deliver this to servers this does the collection processing and alarming
Visualisation can be done with X Y Z
Add Historian to provide decision support to drive your business
Youve got your sensors I/O in the field feeding back digital signals using a number of protocols to your SCADA which could be a single server a number of servers dependant on the level of redundancy required
And then what ype of device do you want that real time control on – standard thick client a thin client which panorama is optimised on through windows terminal services, might want a tablet or mobile device to display some specific information and we have a fully developed application for use on android or IOS to enable that.
Then we come up to what we call non-real time data and this is for much more detailed analysis for use in reports or for data required by regulatory bodies such as EEUMA 191. Recently designed a reporting function to automate the reporting process for alarm handling in plant safety.
This is where we massively differ from a standard SCADA Application and why we say we are a real time data platform.
If you have an existing SCADA you can leave them in place Panorama doesnt havent to replace it it can of course. Panorama can sit above it and you can have a unified system that sits above to unify the the data
Hypervision is usually used as terminology for servers using virtual machines a host etc. forget that… what we mean here in Panorama is that because we are open architecture and we don’t care where the data is coming from we have customers that use us solely to sit above thier existing SCADA as a unified system. Could be any SCADA.
We are SCADA but a much wider capability. Bigger set of data
Telemetry – Usually used in the Water industry some of this are mainly French protocols. Recently attended WITS Plugfest to work with one of our partners IoT connection (MQTT) and we will work with Terzo (who we also need to have a another long chat with) to have a WITS IoT solution for OT Digital Transformation as a real-time data platform
Open standard for machine 2 machine communications
OPC-DA – Open Platform Communications
OPC-UA – OPC UA (unified authentication) newer technology – security is baked into the protocol for access control authentication and encryption. Its been widely adopted in manufacturing for industry 4.0 its scalable and basically more secure.
Modbus – standard more common open protocol TCP/IP,RTU, Modbus +, Modbus ASCII
IEC-61850 – Protocol mechanism to communicate with relays used in electrical substations – goose messaging, MMS, sample measure values
BMS – Building management protocols
IOT – data can be fed directly into Panorama from field devices to enrich data. £50 a point with IoT to £500 a point if you hardwire it.
3 elements to Panorama. E2 stand alone SCADA. It can acquire data without COM and then Historian for any after event business analysis. This allows you to drive your business.
COM – which is effectively a front end communication gateway. It controls your communications devices in order to connect to remote equipment. There are lots of different protocols in the field whether near or far and Panorama COM brings them into the SCADA. It can even bring in 3rd party SCADA systems.
The use of these is driven by what you are trying to do whether its ---
Bottom is communication and processing
Left is SCADA
Historian is for detailed analysis.
Overlap of the products
There is overlap depending on the depth of archiving needed for example and the depth of reports needed
Data acquisition – E2 which is our flagship product majority of cases only need Panorama E2 because it does provide data acquisition
