2. Genre and Sub-Genre
The main Genre for for the 5 minute film is
Romance. This is because there is a sense of
romance and love within the film. Furthermore, the
sub-genre for the film is supernatural and there are
aspects of supernatural activity during the film. We
have selected Props to go along with the Genre,
Sub-genre and characters so that the film can
emphasize the importance of these props.
3. Walking Stick
A walking stick would be used for the female
character that is blind. This would link to the subgenre of supernatural by suggesting that there are
side effects to having such powers and are toggled
by certain situations/tragedies.
4. Glasses (For the blind)
Glasses (for the blind) will be used to also
emphasize the characters disability and show how
the sub-genre of supernatural, supernatural powers
will take a toll on the user.
5. Gravestones
Gravestones will be used to tell the stories of both
characters and how their parent/parents came to
their death. This will link to the main genre of
romance as the reminder of death brings the
characters together.
6. Folders and books
Folders and books will be used to connote the fact
that both characters are still going through
education. This would link to the genre of Romance
because we wanted the film to elaborate on the fact
that young people are getting into relationships so
soon with their whole life ahead of them and uses
love as a scapegoat to escape their reality of life.
7. Beer Bottles
Beer bottles are going to be used to emphasize the
bond between the male character and his father who
has passed away. The beer bottles symbolizes the
link of how he use to grab a drink with his father and
wants to carry on the tradition even though his father
is not present.
8. Necklace
The necklace will be worn by the female character
as a symbol of a gift in which she received from her
parents before they died in a tragic car accident. The
necklace could be a symbolic reminder of
everlasting love and how even though she lost her
sight she still has emotions.
9. Laptop
The laptop plays a key role in the short film as she
lost her sight not to long ago and with muscle
memory, knows the location of each key on her
laptop which would be essential for her to live a
normal life and attend university at no other
disadvantage apart from her sight.
10. Earphones and phones
Her phone along with her ear phones are used in the
film as an escapism tool for the main female
character as it would allow her to fade away from the
struggles that society has given her because of her
disability. It will emphasise on the problems she
faces and how she is not too drawn into them.
11. However…
Although we had initially wanted each of the props to
show significance throughout the scenes, we only
had access to a certain amount of things and
therefore we was not able to elaborate on such
symbolism. In other words we made do.
