2. Enigma Code
• At the beginning of our film, we plan to include a few shots of
Donald in prison
• This is perfect for the enigma code as the audience may not
understand it straight away
• It will lead to a bit of a mystery and therefore may intrigue the
audience
3. Proairetic Code
• These are the significant actions
• The main action in this film is the fact that Donald kills Louis
• Although we don’t actually plan on showing this, it is still significant
as that is the final thing that leads Donald to prison
4. Semantic Code
• These are the parts that suggest additional meanings
• We don’t really have many of these references in our film
• The fact that Donald turned to drink when he was stressed could
suggest that it was something that he was used to seeing when he
grew up
• Maybe that’s why his father died so young
5. Symbolic Code
• There are many symbols and moods throughout the piece itself
• The dark shadows and harsh lighting for one shows that Donald's
life is quite dark and depressing
• It could also be a symbol of the contrast within his life
6. Cultural Code
• Obviously the main point behind the film is that we are replicating a
1940s film noir style text
• If the audience does get that reference then they may not link with
the text
• That knowledge of the culture is crucial to the development of the
film
