• Who is the best person to assess a trainee on a day-to-day
basis?
• Who knows the organisational/employers needs, procedures
and day-to-day business the best?
• Who can offer great feedback to a trainee?
7. Skills for Life & Vocational Needs
• The mentor is a key agent in identifying opportunities for
embedding SfL into the vocational training programme
9. Learning Support: Qualified
• Level 2 Award in Literacy, Language,
Numeracy and ICT Awareness
• L20: Supporting Competence achieved in the

• Basic Skills at Level 2
• ENTO Awards: Coaching & Mentoring in a

11. Who is the Mentor?
• A Mentor is NOT a TUTOR. But IS an Assessor.
• A Mentor does not necessarily have to hold MASTERY of the BASIC
SKILLS. But HOLDS an intermediate level of Basic Skills.
• A Mentor is a CHANGE AGENT for EMBEDDING Basic Skills.
