1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
                       products?

                 My magazine follows most
                    conventions of R&B
               magazines. The image on the
front cover is a close up
camera shot, the same as it is
                  in vibe magazine. I also
                  followed a simple colour
scheme for the cover lines and
                 made them bold and clear.
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
                       products?

                 My contents page follows the
                  usual conventions by having
the date and issue number on
                     the page. I challenged
                    conventions by tilting the
images to give the page a bit
                  more character. I also didn’t
                   leave any dead space and
                  used the whole page unlike
                  vibe magazine on the right.
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
                       products?

My double page spread follows a lot of
                           conventions of music magazines. I
used a question and answer format for
my article. I challenged conventions by
using bright colours on a dark
background to make it colourful. I only
used one page for the actual article
and had images on the other page.
This breaks up the article and makes it
                               easier to read and process.
2. How does your media product represent particular
                  social groups?

On my front cover the main image is
of an R&B artist with their hood up.
This is the typical imagery associated
with the R&B genre. Other imagery
associated with the genre is the bling
                                 and gangster aspect .
2. How does your media product represent particular
                    social groups?

   This image shows the artist
posing for a photo shoot and he
is posing, with attitude how a
    R&B artist would do. This
     represents the gangster
 imagery associated with R&B.
3. What kind of media institution might distribute
         your media product and why?

I think IPC Media would distribute my
                          magazine because they already
                          produce a number of successful
magazines and they would know the
industry inside out. One of their main
                               magazines, vibe, is a
                      massive, successful magazine in the
R&B genre. This means they would
have expert knowledge of the genre
and could help my magazine get off the
                           ground and become succesful.
4. Who would the audience be for your media
                 product?

Out of the 4 consumers the audience for my magazine would
be aspirers because they have a need for status and the
esteem of others. Aspirers could relate to the artists and
products that would be featured within the magazine and it
would show them what they could have if they achieve what
they plan to. The magazine would give aspirers a goal to strive
                           towards.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?

                                I also consulted a potential
                           audience through a questionnaire.
                           The questionnaire included various
questions on potential ideas for the
                            magazine. The questions ranged
from ‘What is your favourite genre
of music?’ to ‘Do you prefer
large, colourful fonts or small and
                             refined fonts?’. These questions
helped me a lot and helped me
choice the genre and layout of the
                                      finished product.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?

I addressed the audience in a very
formal manner and gave the magazine
a relaxed feel. I attracted an audience
by offering prizes in return for
                               participation in quizzes and
                            competitions within the magazine.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

                                During the process I learned
how to use slide share. I
uploaded all of my work to
                               slide share where anyone can
                                    view it. I embedded the
                                 different presentations back
onto my blog so that my work
is easier to view on my blog.
The image on the left is my
slide share profile with all my
                                    work uploaded onto my
                                              profile.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

In order to design and create
my front cover I had to use
                                  adobe Photoshop. I had
                               never used Photoshop before
so I learnt a whole new set of
skills on how to create and
                                effectively edit a magazine
                                         front cover.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

I put a stroke effect on the masthead ‘mixtape’ to improve its sharpness
and make it more visible on the page. The main colour on the masthead
was red so to make it stand out I used black around the edges because the
                           two colours contrast well.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

To make my main image look sharp and bright I used the
auto levels setting on Photoshop to bring the image out
more and make it look more professional.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

The main selling point in the magazine was the
exclusive interview. In order to make the cover
line more visible I increased its font size and
change the colour to gold. This meant the
cover line is the first thing you look at.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

I put a stroke effect around the text on my
contents page to make sure it was easily visible
on top of the background. I put a black stroke
around the white text and the two colours
contrasted to make the text more visible.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

To make the images on the contents page look more
professional I put a red stroke effect around them to act as a
                                 border.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

I tilted the three images on my
contents page to give my magazine
a unique edge and to give the page
            some more character.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

My article was displayed in a question and
answer format, so in order to differentiate
between the interviewer and interviewee I set
the different speech in different colours. I did
this by setting a blue swatch and a red swatch
                 and colouring the text accordingly.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?

In order to construct my double page spread I had to use adobe
in design. I also transferred my front cover on to in design to
create the completed magazine as a whole.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?

I decided to put an anchored
image alongside the text in the
                           article. To incorporate the image
in I had to use text wrap so that
                               there was no rough edges
around the image to keep the
                            article looking professional. By
                              using text wrap the wording
                               around the image remains
                             smooth with no rough edges.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
                     full product?

                  Since the preliminary task I
                      have learnt a lot about
                      conventions of music
                       magazines. On my
preliminary task on the left my
                    cover lines are small and
                insignificant and hard to read.
I rectified this in my main task
on the right by making the
cover lines bold and bright. In
the main task I also made
                     sure there was no dead
space left on the page to
                   make the content look full.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
                     full product?

                   The contents page for my
                main task was much sharper
                 and more professional than
                  my contents page from my
                preliminary task. I made sure
                   that my main task looked
                  professional and not tacky
                like the preliminary task. The
                   bright green background
                doesn’t look professional and
there is still dead space on
the page. On the other hand
                   the contents page for my
main task is more subtle and
                    there is no dead space.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
                     full product?

Since the preliminary task I have learnt how to layout and create a
double page spread. I researched into existing music magazines
and how they were laid out and applied some of those
conventions into my own double page spread.

  • 2. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My magazine follows most conventions of R&B magazines. The image on the front cover is a close up camera shot, the same as it is in vibe magazine. I also followed a simple colour scheme for the cover lines and made them bold and clear.
  • 3. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My contents page follows the usual conventions by having the date and issue number on the page. I challenged conventions by tilting the images to give the page a bit more character. I also didn’t leave any dead space and used the whole page unlike vibe magazine on the right.
  • 4. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My double page spread follows a lot of conventions of music magazines. I used a question and answer format for my article. I challenged conventions by using bright colours on a dark background to make it colourful. I only used one page for the actual article and had images on the other page. This breaks up the article and makes it easier to read and process.
  • 5. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? On my front cover the main image is of an R&B artist with their hood up. This is the typical imagery associated with the R&B genre. Other imagery associated with the genre is the bling and gangster aspect .
  • 6. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? This image shows the artist posing for a photo shoot and he is posing, with attitude how a R&B artist would do. This represents the gangster imagery associated with R&B.
  • 7. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I think IPC Media would distribute my magazine because they already produce a number of successful magazines and they would know the industry inside out. One of their main magazines, vibe, is a massive, successful magazine in the R&B genre. This means they would have expert knowledge of the genre and could help my magazine get off the ground and become succesful.
  • 8. 4. Who would the audience be for your media product? Out of the 4 consumers the audience for my magazine would be aspirers because they have a need for status and the esteem of others. Aspirers could relate to the artists and products that would be featured within the magazine and it would show them what they could have if they achieve what they plan to. The magazine would give aspirers a goal to strive towards.
  • 9. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? I also consulted a potential audience through a questionnaire. The questionnaire included various questions on potential ideas for the magazine. The questions ranged from ‘What is your favourite genre of music?’ to ‘Do you prefer large, colourful fonts or small and refined fonts?’. These questions helped me a lot and helped me choice the genre and layout of the finished product.
  • 10. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? I addressed the audience in a very formal manner and gave the magazine a relaxed feel. I attracted an audience by offering prizes in return for participation in quizzes and competitions within the magazine.
  • 11. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? During the process I learned how to use slide share. I uploaded all of my work to slide share where anyone can view it. I embedded the different presentations back onto my blog so that my work is easier to view on my blog. The image on the left is my slide share profile with all my work uploaded onto my profile.
  • 12. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? In order to design and create my front cover I had to use adobe Photoshop. I had never used Photoshop before so I learnt a whole new set of skills on how to create and effectively edit a magazine front cover.
  • 13. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I put a stroke effect on the masthead ‘mixtape’ to improve its sharpness and make it more visible on the page. The main colour on the masthead was red so to make it stand out I used black around the edges because the two colours contrast well.
  • 14. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? To make my main image look sharp and bright I used the auto levels setting on Photoshop to bring the image out more and make it look more professional.
  • 15. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The main selling point in the magazine was the exclusive interview. In order to make the cover line more visible I increased its font size and change the colour to gold. This meant the cover line is the first thing you look at.
  • 16. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I put a stroke effect around the text on my contents page to make sure it was easily visible on top of the background. I put a black stroke around the white text and the two colours contrasted to make the text more visible.
  • 17. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? To make the images on the contents page look more professional I put a red stroke effect around them to act as a border.
  • 18. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I tilted the three images on my contents page to give my magazine a unique edge and to give the page some more character.
  • 19. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? My article was displayed in a question and answer format, so in order to differentiate between the interviewer and interviewee I set the different speech in different colours. I did this by setting a blue swatch and a red swatch and colouring the text accordingly.
  • 20. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? In order to construct my double page spread I had to use adobe in design. I also transferred my front cover on to in design to create the completed magazine as a whole.
  • 21. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I decided to put an anchored image alongside the text in the article. To incorporate the image in I had to use text wrap so that there was no rough edges around the image to keep the article looking professional. By using text wrap the wording around the image remains smooth with no rough edges.
  • 22. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Since the preliminary task I have learnt a lot about conventions of music magazines. On my preliminary task on the left my cover lines are small and insignificant and hard to read. I rectified this in my main task on the right by making the cover lines bold and bright. In the main task I also made sure there was no dead space left on the page to make the content look full.
  • 23. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? The contents page for my main task was much sharper and more professional than my contents page from my preliminary task. I made sure that my main task looked professional and not tacky like the preliminary task. The bright green background doesn’t look professional and there is still dead space on the page. On the other hand the contents page for my main task is more subtle and there is no dead space.
  • 24. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Since the preliminary task I have learnt how to layout and create a double page spread. I researched into existing music magazines and how they were laid out and applied some of those conventions into my own double page spread.
