Progress Literature: Three possible timing of instruction: before, during, after (Pol, Harskamp, and Suhre 2008) Each alternative has its pro’s and con’s Application: Let the user choose / combine Possible because of ‘infinite’ generated questions

Progress Literature Deadlines force students to become active Increase in class average of 5-10% (Penn & Nedeff, 2000) Application Homework section containing questions that need to be filled in (before certain deadline). Answers checked by the application itself. Automatic update notice send to lecturer if input by student is correct.

Planning Literature Early pilot study (Hodge, Richardson, York, 2008) concluded that randomization could cause frustration if the generated equation could not be retrieved again Disagreements between students lead to synthesis of their ideas and better understanding  Additional reason => Extra help Application Post to Forum’ button will post the step-by-step transcript to a forum (perhaps even link it to BlackBoard?)
