“Ideas are the Lifeblood of Business. Capture every
fleeting idea and drive for change.”- Richard Branson,
English business magnate
It’s time to deconstruct the conception of the
traditional business world. It’s time to renovate
and restructure the business model to achieve
excellence. With the successive wave of technology,
every entrepreneurs and business owners should
change their vision in order to obtain that
extraordinary height of success.
In order to make the difference, the workplace should
opt for a culture of innovation and flexibility. A
culture of innovation brings in the benefits of
improved employee engagement and better solutions
to any business challenges.
However, innovation doesn’t get confined to a certain
group of employees or departments in an organization.
Every department in the organization should be
encouraged a creative culture. Also, innovation
doesn’t necessarily mean invention. Innovation is
commonly misinterpreted as a new invention in any
field. On the contrary, innovation is not invention.
According to Department of Industry, Innovation and
Science, Australia, “Successful innovation should be
an in-built part of your business strategy, where you
create a culture of innovation and lead the way in
innovative thinking and creative problem solving.”
Numerous organizations has designed cool, funky, and
creative environment for their employees helping
them relax, dive into the infinite sea of ideas, and
spark creative thinking to get their projects done. To
5. add to that, rewards and recognitions also make wonders. In a nutshell, in order to create anything big, the authority should
build up that space and encourage the employees to live and celebrate that culture of creativity.
In this issue of our magazine, “The 20 Most Innovative Companies to Watch”, we’ve presented those global organizations

Torchbearer of VerseOne
A fervent leader who has passion for
innovation and the ability to think
creatively, Alan Neilson is the
Founder and Executive Chairman
of VerseOne Group. He earned his
BSc degree in Computer Studies and
has the wide experience that comes
of more than 30 years in IT. Alan
also acts as a director, adviser and
investor for several IT and
technology startup companies. Alan
was the CEO and one of the founding
directors of royalblue technologies
plc—a wholly owned subsidiary of
royalblue group plc (now Fidessa
group plc, FDSA.L). He was
involved in all aspects of growing
that company from a small start-up in
1991 to a highly successful and
dominant software and services
organisation where he sat on the
main board. During his 15 years at
royalblue he gained experience of
corporate finance, due diligence and
acquisitions as part of the company’s
growth—which culminated in the
IPO on the London Stock Exchange
in 1997. At VerseOne, Alan is
responsible for the company’s
current and long-range strategy
formulation and execution to
maximize the group’s success
through delivering innovative and
value-for-money solutions to
customers.
Accolades and Recognition
VerseOne has received numerous
recognitions and awards for its
exemplary digital transformation
solutions, including:
• VerseOne has been recognized
twice by Red Herring as one of
the top 100 technology companies
in Europe and by CIO as one of
the global top 20 CMS providers.
• The company has been shortlisted
as Technology Company of the

believe in listening and taking on
board ideas and suggestions from
staff, customers, partners, and other
stakeholders. VerseOne provides
equal opportunity as well as scope to
everyone to exercise initiative and
execute. Fundamentally, they don’t
believe in or practice micro-
management: they believe that with
the right culture and processes in
place, people and customers can be
both creative and innovative within a
framework of quality and
collaboration.
Secret Behind VerseOne’s Success
The company considers the people
that make up the team within the
business as the biggest asset and
empowers them to make prolific
contributions toward achieving the
company’s vision. Equally important
are the customers: it is crucial to
connect with them, understand their
needs, and add value to business.
Moreover, the company believes that
the right culture is also one of the
factors behind its success:
communication a key mantra and a
cornerstone of the business’s culture,
be it internally or externally with
customers.
Overcoming Challenges
In this era of digital disruptions,
players in the technology sphere are
facing increasing stress to improve
time to market and ensure their
offerings are best in class. For
VerseOne, the biggest challenge was
to find and convince the early
adopter companies they approached
that they had the resources and the
commitment to deliver on their
vision. In spite of the to-be-expected

16. A Roadmap for Digital Transformation
Digital transformation is game-changing and its providers are indispensable.
It is not just about being digital: at heart, it is about remodeling business
strategies to be customer-centric, agile, and innovative. Explaining the
disruptive approach, the founder of the company says, “a business idea
looking for a solution is much less likely to succeed than a business idea that
is either addressing an existing need or improving on how it’s being
addressed.” He envisions more extensible and future-proofed product and
service offerings. The company evaluates the latest products, best practice
methods, and design trends to ensure its offerings remain cutting-edge.
Featuring the Future
The commitment to the customer experience by everyone at VerseOne also
enables the company to take a long view. The company is constantly
evaluating the latest products, best practice methods, design trends, and how
best to incorporate these into the offerings. VerseOne ensures its solutions are
extensible and future-proofed, developed using open standards to provide
vigorous integration with the customers’ existing business technology
platforms. It is also the source of the commitment to security and data
protection, with all of VerseOne’s hosted solutions located in ISO 27001 data
centers within the United Kingdom.

setbacks, they kept the confidence
and the determination alive until the
right champion customers presented
themselves. Moreover, the company
was entirely funded by the founders;
this self-imposed limitation on
finances also presented real
challenges.
These challenges have taught some
important lessons. ‘If you really
believe in your vision and feel it
would make a significant difference
to the market sector you have in
mind, don’t give up and keep
searching and pushing forward. With
hindsight, we would’ve secured
external finance earlier in the
company’s life which would’ve
allowed us to propel the business
forward much more rapidly.’

very flat organizational culture so that
every team member has a chance to
really make their mark and make sure
that their opinions and input is valued
thus resulting in great collaborations

that can be tested and deployed

The company also invests in its offices
by providing an uplifting, comfortable
and creative environment for its high
energy team to enjoy coming to work
every day. It takes pride in its positive
and inclusive culture and this helps the
company attract and retain top talent.
Setting Benchmarks
Driving an organization towards
unprecedented glory can only be
achieved by a proficient leader. With
no speculations of any kind, Amjad
Hussain, the Founder and CEO of
Algo.ai,is made of the same mettle.
Amjad’s mission is to enable people
and machines to work together for
superior outcomes.
During its early period, the company
faced considerable challenge in finding
the right personnel and turning its
vision into a reality. As such, Amjad
dedicated his time and efforts to build a
passionate team of artificial
intelligence scientists, software
engineers, and industry domain
experts. He brought a small team of
driven, dedicated, and talented people
together to use diverse AI methods and
architectures running on Big Data to
build solutions to meaningful and
complex problems for enterprise
customers.
An entrepreneur by heart, Amjad is a
CEO during the day and an avid AI
algorithm designer by night. With a
resolute focus on Artificial
Intelligence, Amjad earned his
Masters’ in Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science from UMIST, in the
UK followed by an MBA from MIT.
He has been recognized amongst the
Crain’s ‘40 Under 40’ Executive
Award for his pioneering contributions
in advanced analytics. Amjad also
boasts an Advanced Management
Program from Harvard and Stanford.
Amjad believes that AI is going to be
overhyped in the short run and under-
hyped in the long run. Taking this
landscape into consideration, Amjad
says, “Algo.ai will focus on a narrow
AI field, applying diverse AI methods
and architectures on data for business
decision making, workflow automation,
and unique customer experiences.” He
also adds that the company envisions a
future where it continues to build
Enterprise AI applications to help
people make smarter decisions in an
uncertain environment.
Leaping Over Hurdles
Commenting upon the challenges he
has and continues to face, while
leading the company, Amjad expresses,
“Bootstrapping an Enterprise AI
company comes with considerable
challenges since most of the advanced
functions of the platform rely on
specially trained algorithms using
proprietary customer data. This means
that you have to work painstakingly for
each new customer and feature before
it can be productized and scaled.”
In Amjad’s opinion, doing this without
a large amount of funding up front
means that one has to be very creative
and disciplined in every aspect of the
business, always weighing priorities
and operating within the constraints of
the customer generated revenue. “This
has taught us to be very lean and
creative. Ultimately we are very glad
we went this route because we have
been able to stay in control of the
company mission and stay true to the
promises we have made to our team
and our customers,” he adds.
A Vision of Progress
Algo.ai aims at continuing to grow
both in customer footprint, global
footprint, and domain footprint. The
company inaugurated its first office in
London last year to service its
international clients, and its
implementation roadmap and product
roadmaps are already packed for 2019.
In addition to building out the core
Algo.ai platform and the company’s
associated Inventory Management and
Supply Chain functions, it is also
investing in incubating complementary
technologies for its enterprise
customers in Retail and other
industries. In this regard it is
developing products in Computer
Vision, Facial Recognition, Augmented
Reality and more. “We love incubating
complementary technologies that our
customers need and are happy to be a
go-to technology partner for building
new experiences using AI for our
customers”, Amjad adds.
One of these endeavours brought about
the existence of AlgoFace which is a
suite of SDKs to empower beauty
brands and retailers with the ability to
create hyper-personalized digital
buying experiences. AlgoFace team is
now growing and with a strong
demand for the technology we will be
seeing AlgoFace growing and
impacting the market significantly in
2019.
Amjad sees this growth happening
both organically through customer
referrals and partnerships, as well as a
smart M&A strategies. “We are always
looking for small innovative teams that
are building something great that fits
into our platform or solves a pain point
our customers are dealing with”, says
Amajd.
We believe in doing
anything and everything
to ensure our customer
partners get exceptional
ROI from allour solutions.

26. Which way should it go?
3D-Printing
Markus Ulrich, Founder and CEO
|April 2019|24
27. Afew decades ago, 3d
printing was quite easily
comprehensible, its three
major technologies quickly
distinguishable:
1.: Chuck Hull polymerized resin by
laser on a top down machine
–invented SLA and founded 3D
Systems in 1986. Today resin is
polymerized by a Laser, by a
thumbnail-sized chip containing
1-2mio switching mirrors, or by
displays like your mobile or TV.
2.: At about the same time Carl
Deckard lasered plastic powder -
invented SLS and founded DTM,
later bought by Chuck Hull´s 3D
Systems.
Arguably the most promising
technology? To be discussed in this
essay in the later section.
3.: Scott Crump melted a plastic
filament extruded by a heated nozzle
that laid one beam on top of the other
like a Canadian blockhouse
–invented FDM and founded
Stratasys in 1989; no big evolution
can be found here, today´s precision
allows for 20 micron layers on good
machines, and material diversity
grew, like bronze, wood, various
plastics, etc.
What followed was Polyjetting,
where resin is pressed out of a
printhead like the one in your ink jet
printer at home, and binder jetting,
where a liquid is jetted onto a powder
layer on the print bed so that the
neighboring spheres are “glued”
together. And barely adopted
outsiders like printing and cutting
copy-paper, gluing page onto page.
However, even taking into
consideration that annoying post
processing has been conveyed to
neighboring machines –now we are
talking systems, space for machine
parks, and cost- the 3D printing hype
came to an end, as reflected by the
stock market´s 3d printing index
PRNT, which is so recent (you guess
why?) that I have to show you its
heavy weight´s former chart
development in a second graphic in
order to let you esteem the gravity of
hurricane that burned previous 3DP-
ETFs to ashes:
Markus Ulrich is the

28. The technologies are quite easy to
differentiate by use: FDM= consumer
market, the rest is for the industry, as
the other processes are dangerous
(high laser power, carcinogenic
resins, nano-particles in powder,
needing mask- protection, evacuation
systems, inert gas chambers, etc).
However it is fair to say that even
FDM printers ship to the industry in
order to support show cases by
providing prototypes. Remember
how hard it was to understand the 2D
drawing showing three sides and a
lot of cross sections? Now the
architect can show the palace to the
sheik in 1: 1000 scale –well 1:100
would be sufficient for my house,
and it still fits my wife´s palm.
All three major patents expired long
ago, yet today we have to learn over
20 new technology-names –mainly
because of ego trips and the need to
avoid costly patent wars, so every
“inventor” slightly modifying a
melting (FDM/SLS) or polymerizing
(SLA/Jetting) process finds another
abbreviation for his “paradigm
shifting” methodology, enabling him
to found a company and trying to
enter the hall of fame.
Yet: 3D printing at home gets boring
after a while, you cannot make all
sizes in full color at a reasonable
price, the stuff cracks –if the print
succeeds at all…
Worse: The industry is unhappy,
having hoped that the transition from
prototype to mass production was
just a decade to go; 20 years later it is
still waiting. Which printer can
replace cheaply ABS-granulate
injection-molding machines
producing by the millions, especially
when the powder is at least ten times
the granulate´s price? Post
processing is another nightmare,
besides dim surface finish, part
accuracy, strength, porosity,
repeatability, etc. We can quickly
exclude FDM from the mass
producer´s wish list, as the quality,
especially in Z, will usually be too
bad to ever receive functional parts.
The FDM process is well understood
and might need color, so we built a 6
filament printhead prototype with
load control and 2µm filament
movement detection.
You may have heard of the many
breakthrough technology providers
like electron-beaming Arcam, Fusion
Jetting HP, powder-reusing Aerosint
SLS (yes, plastic powder 10-100
times more expensive than the
injection molded granulate regularly
cannot be reused and has to be
wasted!), and we see the advantages
of these tech-modifications, but mass
production? No way! Arcam´s
technology serves the military,
aeronautical and medical industry,
it´s for the Formula 1 race car, not
for your Toyota. It prints the rocket,
not the sprocket, to give you a
picture.
So instead of bothering you with
detailed tech-discussions of
“sideways” technologies –those that
remain but wont give new hope,
|April 2019|26
29. possibly leading to no-where- I chose
to analyze in a moment those
methods that have a chance to tempt
serving as alternatives, eventually
even as replacements, for the mass
production systems like injection
molding.
Still let me quickly give you an
overview of the technologies that I
don’t think will change the world:
All resin-based inventions can only
emulate functional materials. Those
products being “born” in a vat of
homogenous resin will hardly show
multiple functional properties at the
same time. SLA printers make
precise objects for good prototypes.
Binder Jetting may be used to bind
sand for big (later molten) objects.
Other than that I don’t see the point
to keep that old tech alive.
LOM/SDL done paper-works should
be replaced by colored FDM objects.
Polyjetters using resin are precise,
colorful and of better quality than
SLA. Here we still have a speed
problem, so at geniusprinters, we
invented a vertical drum with
printheads installed at the inside,
jetting to the outside. Unidirectional
rotations are much faster, and this
principle applies to many of our
inventions as we will see in further
discussions. An automatic 24/7
industrial MJP 4-table printer version
is shown here.
All that needs to be discussed is:
Fusing Powder.
SLS/SLM/DMLS/EBM: Metal or
plastic? Sintering or melting? What
“adhesion” quality?
You already learned that EBM makes
that NASA stuff, an electron beam
melts powder on a preheated layer,
the part´s surface is rougher
compared to SLM machined parts,
and the support-points are harder to
remove, but the part´s strength is
usually better. Hot isostatic pressing
helps to come even closer to wrought
parts quality. No cheap stuff, but the
best we have got so far for
“freestyle” designs.
The SLS/DMLS process in contrast
doesn’t melt the powder but just
sinters it by staying below the
material´s melting point. The part´s
strength is worse, internal porosity of
30% cannot match molten part´s
strength. Why is that? Well, look at
this picture, what is wrong here?
The circle can neither transform into
a rectangle of the same layer height,
nor could the sphere turn into that
cube! Powder printing works best
with stacked spheres. 1-Pi/(3x root2)
gives you the minimal empty
volume, ca. 26%, so 30% is no
modest estimate.
In order to revolutionize the 3D
printing world by replacing injection
molding machines, the task would be
to: produce a (drum) printer that is at
least 200 times faster than HP´s
current Jet Fusion system (another
powder sintering process) AND to
eliminate the empty-volume-weak-
part-problematic AND to overturn
the poor surface finish restrictions,
AND to work for ceramic, metal and
plastics.
That´s exactly what we did at
geniusprinters! We are looking for
an investor enabling us to exploit our
patents, building the world´s first
powder-based 3D printer that can
print a layer of 1/4m² within 100
milliseconds.
Other inventions within our patent
portfolio we are keen to bring to live
are gel-printing robots allowing for
objects of unmatched volumes of
10-100m³, and house printing robots.

Gartner recently identified Knowledge
Graphs as a key new technology in
both their Hype Cycle for Artificial
Intelligence and Hype Cycle for
Emerging Technologies. Gartner’s
Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence,
2018 states, “The rising role of content
and context for delivering insights with
AI technologies, as well as recent
knowledge graph offerings for AI
applications have pulled knowledge
graphs to the surface.”
“Rapidly connecting new knowledge is
a key competitive advantage delivered
by Knowledge Graphs and the core
technology depends on semantic graph
databases.” said Jans Aasman, CEO of
Franz.
A Knowledge Graph represents a
knowledge domain and connects things
of different types in a systematic way
by encoding knowledge arranged in a
network of nodes and links rather than
tables of rows and columns. People
and machines can benefit from
Knowledge Graphs by dynamically
growing semantic network of facts
about things and can use it for data
integration, knowledge discovery, and
in-depth analyses.
Gartner also featured AllegroGraph in
a recent report that explains the
importance of using semantic
technology to drive business value out
of data. In the report, Gartner’s Analyst
noted, “Unprecedented levels of data
scale and distribution are making it
almost impossible for organizations to
effectively exploit their data assets.
Data and analytics leaders must adopt a
semantic approach to their enterprise
data assets or face losing the battle for
competitive advantage.” (Source:
Gartner, How to Use Semantics to
Drive the Business Value of Your Data,
Guido De Simoni, November 27,
2018.)
In today’s data-driven environments,
the ability to analyze data from diverse
sources is becoming a top priority for
every CIO. Organizations in a myriad
of industries including healthcare,
intelligence/defense, life sciences and
financial services need to quickly
analyze streams of structured and
unstructured data from heterogeneous
sources to effectively compete and
make informed decisions. However,
traditional relational database
technology is inadequate for today’s
complex analytics requirements.
Forrester Research stated, “Graph
databases are a powerful optimized
technology that link billions of pieces
of connected data to help create new
sources of value for customers and
increase operational agility for
customer service. Because graph
databases track connections among
entities and offer links to get more
detailed information, they are well-
suited for scenarios in which
relationships are important, such as
cybersecurity, social network analysis,
eCommerce recommendations,
dependence analysis, and predictive

41. ProgrammaticThe Automation of the Advertising Industry
ow It All Started
HAutomation has been around us for quite
some time but its widespread adoption
across marketing and advertising started
around a decade ago. It wasn’t until
1992 that the first marketing automation
tool from IBM named Unica was
developed. That marked the beginning of
a revolution, and the automation of other
marketing processes such as advertising
followed soon after.
When websites’ popularity grew in the
early 2000s, brands found it challenging
to keep track of all the advertising
banners they were placing in different
sites. Several adtech platforms, such as
ad networks and ad servers, emerged
with the purpose of automating this
process and making it easier for
advertisers to reach their desired target
audiences. Then, in 2007, the landscape
experienced a seismic shift when the
iPhone was launched: in just 4 years,
mobile and Internet users doubled,
applications appeared, and the industry
encountered a host of new challenges.
That's when programmatic first made an
appearance as the veritable saviour.

42. Benefits of Programmatic
Programmatic introduced the algorithmic sales/purchases
of advertising space in real time. By this model, different
advertising technologies were used to automate the
buying, placement, and optimisation of media inventory.
Programmatic ads started to be placed using real-time
bidding (RTB) for online display, social media
advertising, mobile and video campaigns, and of late, has
forayed into connected TV.
Programmatic advertising simply cut out the middlemen
in the ad transacting process. ‘No human
intervention’might have sound scary in the beginning,
but the benefits that came with it were simply too
significant to ignore:
1. From Media to Audience Buying – This industry
shift meant that instead of deciding where an ad was
going to be placed, brands could now choose which
audiences they wanted to target, even if they were
scattered around different sites on the Web.
2. Increased Audience Accuracy and Reach –
Programmatic advertising let brands specify their
exact target audiences, with high levels of
granularity, while increasing reach. Today, around
3.5 billion people around the globe browse the
Internet daily and, via programmatic, advertisers
have access to all of them.
3. Real-Time Insights and Transparency – In an
automated ecosystem, gathering and analyzing data
became more efficient and could be used to draw
insights to improve the efficacy of any campaign. It
became easy to track ad performance and adapt
strategies along the way, if required, often in-flight
i.e. while the campaign was underway.
4. Greater Efficiency – Programmatic became one of
the most efficient modes of advertising. The real-
time tracking, precise targeting and incisive
optimization, all clubbed together, resulted in much
higher return on investment (ROI) than previously
achieved.
Impact of Automation in the Advertising Industry
Shift in the role of CMOs
In today’s fast-changing world, a CMO must constantly
evolve his role and broaden his expertise to keep abreast
of the latest trends and technologies. CMOs will need to
gain a deep understanding of these new tools, and also
have to navigate the rapidly emerging topics of data
privacy and compliance. As a result, there will be a need
for a closer collaboration with CTOs, CDOs and CIOs.
Rise of the CDOs
The designation of a Chief Data Officer (CDO) is fairly
new but the number of people assuming this position has
grown threefold in the past five years. The job of a CDO
is all about cultivating methods of using data for value
creation and revenue generation. Since CMOs require
data for their marketing and advertising activities, the
two roles will continue to be ever more closely related.
CMOs might spearhead the adoption of digital practices,
but the CDOs will be the ones helping in establishing the
platforms to put the practices in place.
Conclusion
If there’s one thing for certain it’s that programmatic is
here to stay: According to Zenith’s Programmatic
Marketing Forecasts, in 2019 67% of the world's digital
display advertising will be traded programmatically and
the value of advertising sold programmatically will rise
to US$84.9bn. Automation, in the form of programmatic,
has unalterably changed the course of advertising,
growing from a trending word or concept to entirely
restructuring the discipline. But have we reached the
pinnacle? Not quite. New technologies and data
solutions continue to permeate the industry, offering
novel opportunities for marketers and brands. In many
ways, the best is still yet to come.

Approaching Challenges with
Brilliance
The founders of MaxMD did not come
from the healthcare industry, and
apparently they approached its
challenges in a totally different manner.
Initially, the team faced skepticism
about its limited knowledge in
healthcare. Facing that skepticism
evolved into a positive attribute. We
learned to listen to our customers, let
their needs guide the solutions we
develop.
MaxMD is a skilled team of engineers
with deep technical expertise. The
team provides leadership in the
application of standards such as HL7
V2, C-CDA, and FHIR. The team
believes success in interoperability lies
in leveraging the power of available
standards. MaxMD solutions address a
wide range of needs across a diverse
client base including healthcare
providers, patients, and payers. The
more these constituents realize the
versatility of the Direct Protocol the
more its pipeline grows.
The Two Basic Principles
MaxMD fosters an environment of
intellectual honesty and open dialog
between all team members and clients.
MaxMD has two basic operating
principles. One is, “no one has a
corner on the good idea market”. As a
team we’re committed to a simple
notion, “the best idea wins”. Everyone
is encouraged to contribute their best.
When new folks join the team, they
encourage them to voice their thoughts
even if that thought seems to contradict
the current plans.
Those two principles, combined with
its commitment to listen to the
customers, help the team stay current
and evolving with the market. We are
not too proud to learn something new
from outside the organization. We
foster curiosity and encourage
creativity that helps clients solve their
unique challenges.
Many clients in healthcare have similar
challenges and the team offers tools
that can be configured to work with
legacy systems as well as new
applications or HIT systems broadly.
Any organization that collects data or
has a need to share data for care
coordination or to reduce costs and
improve patient outcomes can benefit
from a scalable and sustainable
approach to interoperability services.
At the root of all
our products and
services are strict
adherence to security
based practices and
the technical standards
and policy requirements
of the direct protocol.

52. A New Paradigm
in Micro-assembly
Contactless Manipulation
Micro-assembly becomes more important in
industry every day, with many industries
growing double digit every year. Dealing
with micro components generates multiple issues. Some
of the most common ones are component stiction, low
positioning precision, surface damage or contamination
and component destruction.
To solve the above issues, many approaches have been
implemented. To detach components stuck to the tool an
air stream blows away the component and, to correct the
consequent positioning error, vision systems and robotic
correction systems are usually implemented.
To deal with fragile or easily scratched components, such
as components out of GaAs or HgCdTe, different
materials are exploited for the tool, usually with lower
lifetime. In most of the cases, these processes have
anyway defect rate around 50%. Even for very mature
component, defect rate around 5% can be found if fragile
membranes or surfaces are present.

53. The root cause for most of these issues can be found in
the manipulation steps, where usually a mechanical
gripper or a suction unit grab the component to transport
it.
The ultimate solution is to contactless manipulate the
components, therefore removing the root cause.
Technological State of the art
To provide contatless manipulation, multiple approach
have been developed. Nevertheless, the majority of those
technologies presents important limitations and
challenges.
Optical levitation is known to be able to suspend a
-6 3
particle up to 0.05 10 m by using laser radiation
pressure. However, this type of manipulation must take
place in a transparent environment in order to obtain
stability. Furthermore, the particle must be transparent, a
highly limiting factor for the target components.
Another solution is electromagnetic levitation, which
uses an electric or magnetic field to manipulate a
charged, polarized or magnetic object. However, this
type of levitation is only applicable to objects sensitive
to electric or magnetic fields. Moreover, there is a risk of
degradation of the object placed in a magnetic or electric
field. Finally, these techniques require specific
installations depending on the object to be handled.
Aerodynamic levitation uses a gas flow to levitate an
object, with two main categories: air bearings and
Bernoulli devices. The air bearings expel a stream of air
from below the object to levitate it. Conversely, the
Bernoulli devices are positioned above the object, which
must be between some sidewalls. Compressed air is
projected onto the object, which is then evacuated by the
space between the walls and the object. This generates
an attractive force opposite the direction of the
compressed air, called Bernoulli effect, which levitates
the object. The main disadvantage of aerodynamic
methods is that the levitated object has very poor lateral
stability and is confined between the sidewalls.
Ultrasounds are also used to levitate components,
exploiting acoustic standing waves. Systems using these
waves require the presence of a reflector that faces the
ultrasound generator. The generator emits waves that
will reflect on the reflector and create equidistant nodes
at λ/2 intervals, where the repulsive force is sufficient for
an object to levitate. The main disadvantage of this
technique is that the manipulations are limited to the area
between the generator and the reflector, and those only at
the nodes. Moreover, the object is kept necessarily at a
minimum distance from the generator of λ/2 which is the
distance of the first node. On the good points, this
technology is suitable for any material and shape.
At last, methods of levitation using a combination of
ultrasonic pressure and air aspiration are also known.
Tools based on this technology are able to manipulate
components of any material, with some limitations on
component shape and lateral stability. Engineering
efforts and ad hoc design of toolings and equipments can
anyway almost completely solve all related issues.
Status of the market
In the latest years acoustic levitation have been able to
raise some interest. These application seems anyway to
be focused for laboratory or leisure and failed to find a
proper industrial application.
The most promising technology seems to be the
combination of ultrasonic pressure and air suction. This
approach don't show the same limitations of the others
and could be easily implemented into industrial
machinery.
Equipment based on this technology are beginning to be
commercialised for the Semiconductor, Optoelectronics
and Watchmaking industries, with very positive
preliminary results.
Future developments
The future rise of contactless manipulation could unlock
design possibilities for microcomponents that are
currently forbidden and could accelerate the
implementation of materials that too brittle or soft to be
held. Furthermore, with greatly improved production
yields, components could become cheaper and less
resources would be wasted during production.
The potential of this new technologies has been deemed
by industry experts as revolutionary and potentially
disruptive for many industries. The potential is there,
will this really become the manufacturing Paradigm of
the Future?

Looking Ahead
Businesses are experiencing rampant
computer network security breaches.
These breaches can go undetected for
days, months and years, despite
businesses deploying cybersecurity

of trained professionals to manage
those solutions. This complex set of
tools is not an effective strategy as,
more often than not, threats and data
breaches are only detected after the
damage is done. Worse yet, 90% of
businesses can’t afford these expensive
solutions.
Seceon is empowering enterprises to
defeat known and new cyber-attacks in
real-time. Seceon will continue to
provide the most effective and
affordable real-time cyber threat

The CEO with Exceptional
Dynamism
Dennis Monner, the CEO and
Founder of Secucloud began his
journey initiating Gate Protect in the
early 2000’s as a provider of enterprise
UTM appliances. He soon realized that
this appliance based approach was not
scalable and indeed a significant part of
the economy was missing out on high
grade
cyber-security, i.e. consumers.
Thus in 2012, Dennis founded
Secucloud and started developing from
scratch the product as a network based
security solution on cloud technology.
This approach enables Secucloud to
offer cyber-security to a much broader
enterprise segment and most
importantly to the wider society of
connected consumers.
Dennis is a decisive, innovative and
strategy-driven senior operational
leader with over 20 years of frontline
experience that includes implementing
effective operational structures for over
200 personnel, and outperforming over
500 direct competitors to achieve
global Top 10 status with ranking in
Gartner’s Magic Quadrant.
Additionally, he has demonstrated his
ability to identify operational
weaknesses and optimise performance
through best-in-class process and
system improvements. Dennis track
record excels in developing,
restructuring and successfully
expanding international sales networks
supported by insightful product,
marketing, and sales strategies. He is
exceptionally skilled at negotiating
lucrative global contracts. Well-versed
in fundraising and M&A negotiations,
Dennis also possesses ability to recruit,
develop and lead large, multi-
functional teams that consistently
exceed their objectives.

Featuring the future
According to the COO, Mark Rees,
“the only current hurdle that we still
see is a below the par understanding
and appreciation among the public at
large, for the need of combating cyber-
crime. This is changing but it is a slow
process.” He further adds, “Our
solution communicates to end users
as much as possible on the dangers of
ignoring these threats so as to raise
