Life Sciences Research Innovation
How can we support
implementation of the
Life Sciences Industrial
Strategy?
How can we facilitate
research in the NHS that
addresses areas of
need?
How can we increase
development, adoption
and spread of proven
innovations?

Work underway
Drawing on lessons from a number of recent publications regarding adoption of
innovation in the NHS….
5
The need to build demand
Adaptiveness of products The use of evidence
Leadership Funding spread
Move away from top-down, supply-side approaches
and instead focus on creating the right conditions
for spread
Products need to be adaptable to different clinical
settings. To achieve this innovators and adopters
need to work together at an early stage.
Focussed roles or groups are needed to drive
innovation and embed it into routine and operational
management processes
Far more is spent on R&D than adoption and
spread.
Move away from financial incentives to an approach
which embeds innovation into routine processes.
Qualitative evidence should complement economic
and clinical evidence to build a vision and create
buy in for innovations.
Financial imperatives and incentives

This is not an exhaustive list. It is a first step in mapping the landscape. We are also looking at other sources of funding such as the academic and private sectors.
