The Chocolate Urge • Maybe you have irresistible urges for chocolate for a mid-afternoon snack. • Maybe you can't resist buying chocolate at the supermarket checkout. • Maybe you eat chocolate in the car. • Your eye movement technique can help block urges for chocolate and candy. • You can use it when you're ready.

The Chocolate Urge • First, you give yourself the suggestion that you want to block that irresistible urge. • You look at or imagine some chocolate • Then you close your eyes. • You let your eyes move back and forth, from wall to wall six to eight times. • Keep letting your eyes move back and forth.

The Chocolate Urge • After a while you'll notice that there is some kind of change. • Using eye movements, while your eyes are closed, can reduce the intensity of an urge. • You will also find that urges subside if you wait them out. • It helps to have a substitute mouth-gratifier on hand, like a low-cal candy.

The Chocolate Urge • The eye movement technique builds on self-suggestion. • Reading about chocolate, you may want to try the technique again. • Imagine passing by a display of chocolate. • Use the eye movement trick. • Move your eyes, not your head. • Use the eye movement trick until you get results.
  6. 6. The Chocolate Urge • You can still have chocolate when you feel in control. • But avoid chocolate as a way to block hunger, tiredness, or negative emotions. • Save chocolate to savor it. • Plan to have it and work it into your calorie budget. • Then you can really enjoy it.
