Promoting research
and innovation

There are 16 Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs) in India.
There are 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in our country.
There are almost 570 universities in India.
Not even 1 Indian university ranks among the Top 100 Global
Universities.
In India Number of Patent Applications in 2012 were 15000+ whereas
in Japan, China, USA it was 4lakhs+.
In 2010 it was more less and the scenario was worst before 2007.
NOW
BEFORE
More than 2700 years back a huge university existed in that ancient
India where over 10,500 students from all across the world came for
higher studies.
This was the TakshaShila university of ancient India. During its times
this university was the IIT and MIT of the world.
Nalanda was one of the world's first residential universities. It
accommodated over 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers.
Some of the students who graduated out of the TakshaShila university
included the great political master Chanakya- Artha Shastra, Charaka -
Charaka Samhita ,Vishnu Sharma-Pancha Tantra.
What is happening to our country?
In spite of development there is Deterioration!
The development in research field is decreasing with increase in time.
There is a urgent need in promoting research and innovation.
• Changes in Education system creates a large impact on the
solving the program and thus promoting RI.1
• The time period of the occurrence of change may be high but
is long lasting and worth.2
• Separate funding isn’t required but new monitoring and governing
body should be employed .3
• The real challenge is promoting and encouraging these changes in
almost all the universities ,schools, colleges in fact in all the education
centres. Promoting patent rights is also essential, and encouraging
young minds in this path.
4
Promoting Research and Innovation(RI):
Promoting RI should be done from basic level i.e. at school level itself.
Students should be exposed to practical's, experiments, paper presentations and publishing journals in college
itself.
Subjects like G.K., logical reasoning, current affairs, and other subjects which help to progress or create
interest in RI should be introduced to students.
Like all other developed countries India should fund R&D at a higher levels.
Scientists should be paid high and see to that they work in our country by providing them with all the funds
and materials.
Government should encourage youth in RI by funding best and most Innovative ideas every year.
Changes in education system:
There is a serious and massive need to change many aspects of our education system which directly
effect on RI.
We need implement many methods as of foreign universities do(not all).
Students should be given freedom to learn what ever they want.
More of practical and experimental knowledge should be inculcated rather than theory which results
ultimately mugging up criteria.
More use of technology, reviving the subjects-topics being taught every year as per the changes in world.
Students are expected to submit papers, journals as their project works.
Examination system should be subjected to lots of changes.
Research and innovation doesn’t only mean in sciences or studies, they can be in any field like in history,
arts, sports, etc so even they should be given taken into consideration.
New age subjects such as coding, robotics, etc should be introduced to students at school level itself
which has high scope in future.
Awareness about research institutes
In India there are about 75 research institutes that are funded by the central government
the government of India in 2006 through (MHRD), has setup five research institutes across
the country and named them as IISER(Indian Institute of Science and Educational Research)’s
but it is a painful news that of the average 13 lakh people who complete their 12 std not even
10% people know about these institutes
The financial outlay for each IISER is around 5 billion (US$80 million) for the first five years
when IIT’s and IIM’s are made so popular that people even waste an academic year
for getting admitted into these institutes then why can’t our government take
measures to popularise these research institutes and make people aware of what
are the benefits provided to them by taking up research study.
Practical Learning
• Vigyan ashram is a complete practical school in pabal of Maharashtra, it
runs with a mission to ‘revolutionize the education system’ of India
it almost represents the school in the movie 3idiots.
• Learning should be by "Learning While Doing"
• When we practically learn something then innovative ideas keep
sprouting from different brains which is the first step for being
succeeded
• Our education system is completely obsolete and there is need for an
urgent attention of government to change the system and bring a
complete practical learning system into force
• All the government schools must be turned into practical schools and
the innovation which is hidden in the minds of our brilliant children
comes out automatically
“There are two ways of spreading light : to be the candle or the mirror that reflects
it” - Edith Wharton

  • 5. • Changes in Education system creates a large impact on the solving the program and thus promoting RI.1 • The time period of the occurrence of change may be high but is long lasting and worth.2 • Separate funding isn’t required but new monitoring and governing body should be employed .3 • The real challenge is promoting and encouraging these changes in almost all the universities ,schools, colleges in fact in all the education centres. Promoting patent rights is also essential, and encouraging young minds in this path. 4
  • 6. Promoting Research and Innovation(RI): Promoting RI should be done from basic level i.e. at school level itself. Students should be exposed to practical's, experiments, paper presentations and publishing journals in college itself. Subjects like G.K., logical reasoning, current affairs, and other subjects which help to progress or create interest in RI should be introduced to students. Like all other developed countries India should fund R&D at a higher levels. Scientists should be paid high and see to that they work in our country by providing them with all the funds and materials. Government should encourage youth in RI by funding best and most Innovative ideas every year.
  • 7. Changes in education system: There is a serious and massive need to change many aspects of our education system which directly effect on RI. We need implement many methods as of foreign universities do(not all). Students should be given freedom to learn what ever they want. More of practical and experimental knowledge should be inculcated rather than theory which results ultimately mugging up criteria. More use of technology, reviving the subjects-topics being taught every year as per the changes in world. Students are expected to submit papers, journals as their project works. Examination system should be subjected to lots of changes. Research and innovation doesn’t only mean in sciences or studies, they can be in any field like in history, arts, sports, etc so even they should be given taken into consideration. New age subjects such as coding, robotics, etc should be introduced to students at school level itself which has high scope in future.
  • 8. Awareness about research institutes In India there are about 75 research institutes that are funded by the central government the government of India in 2006 through (MHRD), has setup five research institutes across the country and named them as IISER(Indian Institute of Science and Educational Research)’s but it is a painful news that of the average 13 lakh people who complete their 12 std not even 10% people know about these institutes The financial outlay for each IISER is around 5 billion (US$80 million) for the first five years when IIT’s and IIM’s are made so popular that people even waste an academic year for getting admitted into these institutes then why can’t our government take measures to popularise these research institutes and make people aware of what are the benefits provided to them by taking up research study.
