Production Reflections
Your Name
Production reflections
• This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
• You should complete this each week during production
• Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
• Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
Process – week 1
• In the first week we researched music videos how they film
them what shot they do, angles and the lighting of the
video. The ones I watched were mainly bright as they were
outside in the daylight. We then started to write our initial
plans of what we might want to do for our music video. By
watching the music video on YouTube it helped to see what
we need to do and which was understanding the camera by
what levels they do of shots some might be low and
medium shit or some could be eye level and close up shot.
Then there was lighting making sure there was lighting good
enough to see, especially if it was dark and wanted to film
in them lights it would be hard to see what was happening
as some cameras cant produce enough light in the dark so
have to be careful of what and can sein when filming so
lighting is very important when it comes to filming. Also got
us thinking about what we might want to do by watching
existing videos already and maybe put into our video maybe
a little different to make it our own. Also knowing what
sound we wanted for mine I didn't want any sound in the
actual videos so I don’t mind if there was any sound in my
video as I can just mute the clips I filmed and add the song
I'm wanting to have for the actual music video. Also got to
make a mind map of our ideas we have got from either
watching YouTube videos or what we already might of
thought of when we started this project. When we got all
the information and ideas we want for our music video we
got to write a summary of our overall idea to make sure
that’s what we wanted to do for sure ad when we come to it
we can go back to that slide in the PowerPoint called initial
plans we can go to that one and see what we wrote to
either recap what we want to do or to add more to it if we
thought of more.
Process – week 2
• The next week we watched more YouTube videos to keep
adding to out ideas when it comes to filming our actual
one. In this one we also got to screenshot some of the
videos we watched to then write parts of it to why we like
it and might add it to our music video. I liked this as it
made me think about where and when I would add it to
my video instead of just adding it for no reason and not
use it. So I got 3 slides of the ideas I would like to use for
my video which you will see in the research PowerPoint.
Also in this PowerPoint we got to write about the
conventions, genre characteristics etc. which helps when
we need to get more information for example in the
conventions I got to write about what I would like to
happen again but in more depth as I got to watch more
music videos to see what else I could add or swop to
something better that might make my music video more
interesting to watch. Then with the genre characteristics
got to rite about what's similar to each music video I have
watched or what music videos have got in common. The
last thing we got to do in this one which I think helped me
the most was doing experiments. I felt that doing this was
helpful because you got to try the clips you think you might
of wanted to use in the video or you might of changed your
idea of it because it might of not looked good or it didn’t fit
well with your song. I think if we didn't do the experiments
I would of struggled a little more as I wouldn't’t of tried
them before and then when it came to filming the actual
music video I might of struggled to do it and then would of
have to change what I wanted to do last minute which
would of slowed me down.
Process – week 3 • In week 3 because I was ill I missed doing my proposal so I
had to do it the week after it was meant to be done and
this is where my work started to slow done a bit as the
proposal took me a while for some reason but I got it
done. Also in week 3 I only realised we had to be filling
this PowerPoint out so I started tat for week 1 and 2 so I
did that so I don’t have to do it at the very end. I also
started to make sure I got everything ready to film all my
clips. Also because I was ill I didn’t start my pre
production till third week so I started that and I’m
actually still working on it as I found this PowerPoint
harder and longer so I wanted to make sure that it was at
its best as I am writing this one up in week 4 when it was
meant to be completed in week 2 but I felt there was a lot
to do in week 2 I could of completed it all in that week so
I started it in week 3 but still doing it in week 4 as there's
a lot to do personally, as you have to collect images for
the mood board then wrote about each image. Then had
to write about the structural breakdown of the song what
ill film for each verse which helped to think about the
intro and then throughout it all. Also got to do a
storyboard and shot list, the storyboard helped with
when and what to do for the video and put it in order
then with the shot list again I didn’t do this part till week
4 but I'm mentioning it here because I started it in week 3
but didn’t complete it till week 4 but I started it and write
the time and what I’d want to happen at the specific time
and ten when I actually filmed my music video it helped a
lot more to write the times and what is actually
happening in the shot list which you aren't really meant
to do but it helped me almost of my plans that I wanted
to do haven't really worked and had to change them last
minute.
Process – week 4 • In week 4 I started to film my music video with
Amy and Josh and started to edit near the end
of the week which you will see by the
screenshots on the left. I haven't completed all
the filming as the other half is at home and I
realised I filmed it portrait instead of landscape
so I'm going to have to redo that bit again in
landscape and get that finished at the
beginning of week 5. like I mentioned in the
last slide of week 3 I'm still finishing my
PowerPoint 4 which I'm almost completed but
it'll defiantly be completed by the end of week
4 so that’s fine as ill just have my music video
to finish editing and then evaluation so ill be
caught up with all my work again and
completed before the end of week 5. I do feel
that week 4 is where I've mostly completed the
PowerPoints that was meant to be completed
in the other weeks, however they are done
now and the reason why they weren't done
was for being ill and week 2 I felt there was a
lot of work to do in 4 days so I worked on it in
them 3 weeks. Overall its all completed and
now I can focus on my evaluation and editing
of my music video and be done on Friday of the
last week.
Process – week 5 • In week 5 we have had to complete our music video and
upload it to YouTube and blogger along with he rest of the
PowerPoint's/work we have completed and put it on there so
people can see our work. The next thing we have to complete
this week as we on it have this week left of music video, so
we have to complete every PowerPoint including this one and
we are having to start the evaluation to talk about all the
PowerPoint's and other work we have done in depth about
what went well or what we could do if we could improve it or
had more time. Which we will hopefully complete before the
end of this week as we start the new topic in media next
week. We had more time with the music video as we had
today to complete it, that’s if we hadn't or wanted to go
through it to quickly add something to it which is what I had
to do as the clips I got before the Friday last week it wasn’t
the way I wanted it to be, and I also filmed it the wrong way
round so I filmed something different as I felt the other thing I
wanted to do wasn’t going to work which was the blue light
reflecting in the room but I decided not to do it anymore as
when I filmed the rest of the room you couldn’t see the blue
light it was pitch black and I was using my phone so the
quality wasn’t great where if used a college camera it might
of been better and might of picked up the blue light.

Production Reflection mv 2018

  • 2. Production reflections • This proforma is to record how you worked on your production • You should complete this each week during production • Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week • Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve and actions for the following sessions/weeks
  • 3. Process – week 1 • In the first week we researched music videos how they film them what shot they do, angles and the lighting of the video. The ones I watched were mainly bright as they were outside in the daylight. We then started to write our initial plans of what we might want to do for our music video. By watching the music video on YouTube it helped to see what we need to do and which was understanding the camera by what levels they do of shots some might be low and medium shit or some could be eye level and close up shot. Then there was lighting making sure there was lighting good enough to see, especially if it was dark and wanted to film in them lights it would be hard to see what was happening as some cameras cant produce enough light in the dark so have to be careful of what and can sein when filming so lighting is very important when it comes to filming. Also got us thinking about what we might want to do by watching existing videos already and maybe put into our video maybe a little different to make it our own. Also knowing what sound we wanted for mine I didn't want any sound in the actual videos so I don’t mind if there was any sound in my video as I can just mute the clips I filmed and add the song I'm wanting to have for the actual music video. Also got to make a mind map of our ideas we have got from either watching YouTube videos or what we already might of thought of when we started this project. When we got all the information and ideas we want for our music video we got to write a summary of our overall idea to make sure that’s what we wanted to do for sure ad when we come to it we can go back to that slide in the PowerPoint called initial plans we can go to that one and see what we wrote to either recap what we want to do or to add more to it if we thought of more.
  • 4. Process – week 2 • The next week we watched more YouTube videos to keep adding to out ideas when it comes to filming our actual one. In this one we also got to screenshot some of the videos we watched to then write parts of it to why we like it and might add it to our music video. I liked this as it made me think about where and when I would add it to my video instead of just adding it for no reason and not use it. So I got 3 slides of the ideas I would like to use for my video which you will see in the research PowerPoint. Also in this PowerPoint we got to write about the conventions, genre characteristics etc. which helps when we need to get more information for example in the conventions I got to write about what I would like to happen again but in more depth as I got to watch more music videos to see what else I could add or swop to something better that might make my music video more interesting to watch. Then with the genre characteristics got to rite about what's similar to each music video I have watched or what music videos have got in common. The last thing we got to do in this one which I think helped me the most was doing experiments. I felt that doing this was helpful because you got to try the clips you think you might of wanted to use in the video or you might of changed your idea of it because it might of not looked good or it didn’t fit well with your song. I think if we didn't do the experiments I would of struggled a little more as I wouldn't’t of tried them before and then when it came to filming the actual music video I might of struggled to do it and then would of have to change what I wanted to do last minute which would of slowed me down.
  • 5. Process – week 3 • In week 3 because I was ill I missed doing my proposal so I had to do it the week after it was meant to be done and this is where my work started to slow done a bit as the proposal took me a while for some reason but I got it done. Also in week 3 I only realised we had to be filling this PowerPoint out so I started tat for week 1 and 2 so I did that so I don’t have to do it at the very end. I also started to make sure I got everything ready to film all my clips. Also because I was ill I didn’t start my pre production till third week so I started that and I’m actually still working on it as I found this PowerPoint harder and longer so I wanted to make sure that it was at its best as I am writing this one up in week 4 when it was meant to be completed in week 2 but I felt there was a lot to do in week 2 I could of completed it all in that week so I started it in week 3 but still doing it in week 4 as there's a lot to do personally, as you have to collect images for the mood board then wrote about each image. Then had to write about the structural breakdown of the song what ill film for each verse which helped to think about the intro and then throughout it all. Also got to do a storyboard and shot list, the storyboard helped with when and what to do for the video and put it in order then with the shot list again I didn’t do this part till week 4 but I'm mentioning it here because I started it in week 3 but didn’t complete it till week 4 but I started it and write the time and what I’d want to happen at the specific time and ten when I actually filmed my music video it helped a lot more to write the times and what is actually happening in the shot list which you aren't really meant to do but it helped me almost of my plans that I wanted to do haven't really worked and had to change them last minute.
  • 6. Process – week 4 • In week 4 I started to film my music video with Amy and Josh and started to edit near the end of the week which you will see by the screenshots on the left. I haven't completed all the filming as the other half is at home and I realised I filmed it portrait instead of landscape so I'm going to have to redo that bit again in landscape and get that finished at the beginning of week 5. like I mentioned in the last slide of week 3 I'm still finishing my PowerPoint 4 which I'm almost completed but it'll defiantly be completed by the end of week 4 so that’s fine as ill just have my music video to finish editing and then evaluation so ill be caught up with all my work again and completed before the end of week 5. I do feel that week 4 is where I've mostly completed the PowerPoints that was meant to be completed in the other weeks, however they are done now and the reason why they weren't done was for being ill and week 2 I felt there was a lot of work to do in 4 days so I worked on it in them 3 weeks. Overall its all completed and now I can focus on my evaluation and editing of my music video and be done on Friday of the last week.
  • 7. Process – week 5 • In week 5 we have had to complete our music video and upload it to YouTube and blogger along with he rest of the PowerPoint's/work we have completed and put it on there so people can see our work. The next thing we have to complete this week as we on it have this week left of music video, so we have to complete every PowerPoint including this one and we are having to start the evaluation to talk about all the PowerPoint's and other work we have done in depth about what went well or what we could do if we could improve it or had more time. Which we will hopefully complete before the end of this week as we start the new topic in media next week. We had more time with the music video as we had today to complete it, that’s if we hadn't or wanted to go through it to quickly add something to it which is what I had to do as the clips I got before the Friday last week it wasn’t the way I wanted it to be, and I also filmed it the wrong way round so I filmed something different as I felt the other thing I wanted to do wasn’t going to work which was the blue light reflecting in the room but I decided not to do it anymore as when I filmed the rest of the room you couldn’t see the blue light it was pitch black and I was using my phone so the quality wasn’t great where if used a college camera it might of been better and might of picked up the blue light.
