1. Supply and Demand of Immigrant Workers How many workers and immigrants are in the U.S.? What types of jobs do they do? Should they stay or should they go? Source – Ex Mex. From Migrants to Immigrants Ian Turpen
2. How many workers are in the United States The number of migrants returning periodically to Mexico is considerably reduced. The population of permanent workers is continuing to grow. The population of permanent workers in the United States is around 11 million people. 6.2 million of which are undocumented.
3. What types of jobs do they do? Mexican workers are no longer confined to seasonal workers to agricultural jobs. Mexican Workers are now doing low-skill jobs that have made them competitive with U.S. workers. Mexicans are doing the jobs that the U.S. citizens consider to be bad jobs and refuse to do them selves.
4. In the book Castaneda writes to Americans, “Do they prefer Mexicans to come and stay, or to come and go?” If Mexican workers want to stay they need to settle down and contribute to American Life as they gradually become Americans. If we want them to come and go this is not feasible due to the fact that they can not assimilate and it is going to be very difficult to do so, if not impossible to assimilate. Should the stay or should they go?
