Mr. Ian Matthews is currently employed by by ARA Group: Automatic Fire Protection as a full tine
sponsored electrician on a 457 visa. Ian started with Automatic Fire Protection on 3rd
of November
2010, working first out of the company NSW office and from 6th
of July 2011 out of our Queensland
offices.
Ian’s duties and responsibilities as an electrician include:
- Installing networking cabling closed and loop systems
- Installing (MASD) Vesda aspirated fire detection systems
- Installing insulated cables and connect switches, outlets and electrical fittings
- Wiring and commissioning electrical systems to run electrical pumps for sprinkler systems
- Installing fire detection to AS1670 specifications
- Electrical installation and test of EWIS systems and WIP phones
- Programming FIP according to detection loops and matrix requirements
- Electrical installation and commission and test of automatic fire curtains and fire shutters
- Installing mechanical protection for cabling
- Ensuring correct cabling segregation in buildings
- Decommission electrical systems
- On site health and safety for self and others
- Liaise with clients, other contractors and managers on works progress and any issues
- Training apprentices
- Reading and interpreting drawings
- Working out cabling and equipment requirements for jobs
- Planning cable routes and designating the number of circuits required
- Terminating connections
- Testing pre and post connection
- Fault finding and repair of electrical systems in industrial and commercial properties
- Use of a wide range of tools and equipment
