Introduction of Ian Hall
Casual Relief Teacher
Information Technology Trainer
I have been using iMindMap versions over 10 years and will until I pass away. I have done mind
maps into journals and personal diary over many years. I was primary teaching in WA from 1981
until 1997. Since then doing casual relief teaching in Melbourne, Bendigo, Inglewood and
Ballarat primary schools for past 5 years. I have used Tony Buzan in many lessons. I still
undertake iMindMap on A3 paper with textas of many colours. I have undertaken many training
sessions with parents, teachers, and students on mindmapping e.g.: info on Ned Kelly or
planning events for schools. Tony Buzan deserves a medal for coming up with the sanity-saving
concept of Mind Maps, which make difficult mental tasks possible, even pleasurable.
Here is a mind map on the topic of Teaching Tips.

Two iMindMaps on Skype communication service sessions over the many years…I have
presented to trainers and parents on topic of Skype…
I like using imindmapping personally as well for creating info on session presenting, interview
preparation, update curriculum vitae and planning dreams/goals for 2014. I can saved mind
map as screen savers, PDF, embed code and many other ways. I have freedom and cloud
account to upload to cloud and do work on my iMindMaps anywhere I was.

Or try the 7 Steps to Making a Mind Map
1. Start in the CENTRE of a blank page turned sideways. Why? Because starting in the
centre gives your Brain freedom to spread out in all directions and to express itself
more freely and naturally.
2. Use an IMAGE or PICTURE for your central idea. Why? Because an image is worth a
thousand words and helps you use your Imagination. A central image is more
interesting, keeps you focused, helps you concentrate, and gives your Brain more of a
buzz!
3. Use COLOURS throughout. Why? Because colours are as exciting to your Brain as are
images. Colour adds extra vibrancy and life to your Mind Map, adds tremendous energy
to your Creative Thinking, and is fun!
4. CONNECT your MAIN BRANCHES to the central image and connect your second- and
third-level branches to the first and second levels, etc. Why? Because your Brain works
by association. It likes to link two (or three, or four) things together. If you connect the
branches, you will understand and remember a lot more easily.
5. Make your branches CURVED rather than straight-lined. Why? Because having nothing
but straight lines is boring to your Brain.
6. Use ONE KEY WORD PER LINE. Why because single key words give your Mind Map
more power and flexibility.
7. Use IMAGES throughout. Why because each image, like the central image, is also worth
a thousand words. So if you have only 10 images in your Mind Map, it’s already the
equal of 10,000 words of notes!

Chap 2: What is iMindmapping?
The Swiss Army Knife of the brain
Our brains are divided into the left and right cortex. The left side is dedicated to tasks
involving order, logic, words, lists, numbers and analysis, the right side deals with rhythm,
colour, imagination and daydreaming. If we want to improve memory, learning and thinking
skills we have to use our whole brain. (Ref 1)
“MindMapping, according to the real Buzan, is about image and association. It’s a meta-
language that geniuses across history (think Leonardo) have tapped into by connecting
thoughts with images. A typical MindMap has a central theme, and radiating from it, a series of
connected words and images. For Buzan and many users of mindmapping, it’s a way to take
notes and connect ideas that fits more perfectly with the brain’s way of doing things than a
typical list or piece of prose.” (Ref 2)
iMindmap is the name created by Tony Buzan also called the “A Ultimate Visual and graphic
holistic thinking tool” (Ref 3)
Mind Map is a powerful graphic technique which provides a universal key to unlock the potential
of the brain. It harnesses the full range of cortical skills - word, image, number, logic, rhythm,
colour and spatial awareness - in a single, uniquely powerful manner. In so doing, it gives you
the freedom to roam the infinite expanses of your brain.
Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 16
Laws of Mind Mapping
According to the Wiki.
A mind map is a diagram used to visually outline information. A mind map is often created
around a single word or text, placed in the centre, to which associated ideas, words and
concepts are added. Major categories radiate from a central node, and lesser categories are
sub-branches of larger branches. The idea of visually representing thought for problem solving
and organization goes back centuries. (Ref 4)
Similar to a road map, a Mind Map will:
 Give you an overview of a large subject/area.
 Enable you to plan routes/make choices and let you know where you are going and
where you have been.
 Gather and hold large amounts of data.
 Encourage problem solving by seeing new creative pathways.
 Enable you to be extremely efficient.
 Be enjoyable to look at, read, muse over and remember.
 Attract and hold the eye/brain.
 Improve and accelerate your learning and thinking skills.
A mind map is:
 Good software tool
 Intuitive
 Easy to use
 Remember things
 Making better notes
 Coming up with ideas
 Saving time
 Concentrating
 Making the most of your time
Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 17
iMindMap is from the Inventor of Mind Mapping
iMindMap is Mind Mapping software from the man who invented Mind Mapping, Tony Buzan
during the 1960s, his experience at school with the librarian saying that they have no mind
mapping book placed him on the path to the idea of creating - Mind mapping. Everything we do
is designed to get you thinking creatively and without limitations. Our 40 years of research –
more than any other organisation in this field – has culminated in us perfecting the Mind
Mapping technique. Mind Map software doesn’t just try to replicate what you’re already doing
in a slightly prettier format. It encourages you to think creatively and approach Mind Mapping
in a way that is in line with how your brain naturally processes information. (Ref 5)

Editing the properties of a branch has been made easier in iMindMap 7. The branch target now
contains a gray segment that, when you click it, causes a dialog box like the one below to pop
up over the currently-selected topic.
This enables you to:
Toggle it between a regular and a box branch
Toggle the branch text between right, left and center alignment
Change its color via a pop-up color palette
Change its shape (this didn’t work in the beta version I used)
Change the appearance of the branch itself via branch art (for example, you can make it look
like a pencil, a road, an arm and lightning)
The pop-up window contains four other tabs, in addition to branch formatting: DropTask,
image, edit and objects. DropTask enables you to integrate the tasks you’ve created in this
web-based visual task management tool with your mind maps. The image tab gives you fast
access to iMindMap’s drawing tools and image library, as well as a “file” button to import
images from your computer. Edit gives you access to cut, copy and paste tools, while
“objects” lets you quickly add notes, hypertext links and audio files to a map branch.
Why is this valuable? Any time you can enable users to get work done within the mind map,
without having to repeatedly move the cursor back to the program’s toolbar, is a plus.
Continuing to work within the map is almost always faster, especially for repeated tasks.
Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 28
To move a topic, you must click and drag on the blue segment of the branch target. When you
do so, the blue segment turns into a blue circle and you can position it as needed. Not exactly
intuitive at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, this method of moving topics works well.
The way the segment transforms into a circle is excellent user feedback that you’re doing it
right!

Sketching
The last several versions of iMindMap have given you the ability to add sketches to your mind
map canvas, but they did so in a separate window. In this new version of ThinkBuzan’s mind
mapping software, you are able to create them directly in the workspace. It provides a nice set
of tools for creating common shapes, such a circles, rectangles and polygons, plus brushes, a
paint can and more. The controls are simple and intuitive to use, and you can easily resize or
drag the sketching region around the workspace, even while you’re creating a sketch- nice!

“iMindMap 7 insert target in the same way the branch target helps you add content to your
mind map with having to use iMindMap 7’s toolbar, the new insert target does so for floating
assets. When you double click in a blank area of the workspace, a set of four icons appears,
which enable you to quickly add images, floating text, flowcharts and new maps. Clicking on
one of these buttons displays another tier of buttons, arrayed in an arc next to it, like the
screen shot at right.
To select one of these elements to add to your mind map, you can simply click it or drag and
drop it. When you first start using the program, a help window pops up that demonstrates via
a simple animation how to use the insert target. This is very helpful, but I think this new user
interface element could also benefit from tool tips, which would appear on screen as you
hover over a button.”

“A case in point: The toolbars and menus. As you can see in the screen shot above, within a
small area you can see four menus stacked up. This is bound to be confusing for new users.
I’ve been using iMindMap for years, and I’m not even sure what all of these commands do. It’s
easy to get lost, especially when the “home” button doesn’t take you back to your map and
the main toolbar, but to the iMindMap 7 start page.
And then there’s the branch and insert targets. Don’t get me wrong – they’re wonderful tools
that help users get more work done faster. But as they get more complex, with more segments
and buttons, new users may quickly become confused. Without tool tips or other “hints,” they
must learn by trial and error what each one does – or RTFM (read the f**king manual). Once
you understand what each one does, it’s a very productive way to build and enhance a map.
But it just creates a learning curve that’s a little higher for new users.”

Chap 6: DROPTASK
“Integration with DropTask …iMindMap 7 - DropTask integration
As you create mind maps in iMindMap 7, you can easily transfer tasks to DropTask, a visual,
web-based tool for project and task tracking (click here to read my review of it).
To use this feature, you can either click on the gray segment of the branch target and the
DropTask tab in the menu that pops up. The program also displays DropTask information for
the current task in the tabbed panel at the side of the workspace. There, you can add a note to
the task and send it to DropTask. When it arrives there, it appears in the application’s inbox
(as shown in the screenshot at right). This gives you the option of assigning it to a specific
project.
This is an interesting integration, but with a relatively small population of DropTask users in
the world, I question its usefulness to the majority of iMindMap 7 users.
iMindMap and DropTask make the perfect pairing, with both focusing on giving you an
intuitive and visual environment in which to manage information. So now you can make the
most of iMindMap’s creative workspace to generate and organise your ideas, then fire them
into DropTask and power them through to successful implementation with DropTask’s fluid
approach to task management.”

There is a great article on DropTask
Droptask brings a rich visual interface to task management in May 17th, 2013 By Chuck Frey
Here at: http://mindmappingsoftwareblog.com/droptask/ or click the picture above.
How it works
Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 54
In iMindMap you can send any branch straight into the visual task management app,
DropTask, to become a ‘task’. You can also export whole Mind Maps into DropTask, which will
become ‘Projects’.
Once you export your iMindMap branches into DropTask, individual and actionable task
circles will form. You’ll then be able to use DropTask’s powerfully visual task indicators to
give your project increased clarity and depth.
Delegate tasks and manage priorities and deadlines
Collaborate with colleagues in real time

colourful, easy-to-use flowcharting feature. You can capture ideas in the most effective way
on the iMindMap canvas, whether that be by Mind Mapping or Flowcharting. It’s controversial,
but we find that a little bit of both works best (and sure looks good).

“I added a simple flow chart to my mind map, and found the charting tools to be very easy to
use. When a shape is selected, two little tabs stick out at the bottom of it that enable you to
change its color and shape. While connecting one shape to another, iMindMap 7 provides you
with ample visual feedback. When you hover over a shape, a green button appears in the
middle of it with a dotted circle rotating around it. This lets you know the program is ready to
add a connector line. You simply drag it to the shape to which you want to connect. As soon
as your mouse hovers over the edge of the second shape, a similar rotating ring appears to let
you know you’re in the right spot to drop the line (see screen shot below, which depicts me
joining shapes C and the green parallelogram E).”

“Presentation templates
Developer ThinkBuzan debuted a presentation builder in iMindMap 6. In version 7, it has
added templates to help users create presentations even faster. Adding logos and
backgrounds is now easier, too.
When you click on the “present” button in the program’s toolbar, a window pops up that asks
you what kind of presentation you plan to create – a meeting, teaching, big overview or in-
depth talk (like the screen shot above). Helpful instructions explain what you’ll get if you
select each option. You can also build your own presentation. Keep in mind that in the
parlance of iMindMap 7, a presentation “template” doesn’t mean a set of colors and styles – it
has to do with how the program displays each topic, the type of transitions used between
slides and the speed at which it does so.
iMindMap 7 - presentation templates selected “meeting,” and iMindMap 7 automatically
created a set of slides where one branch appeared at a time in a slide-by-slide view, with quick
transitions between them. I then used the new logo and background controls to add these
elements to my slides (see screenshot at right). Logos appear in the lower right corner of each
slide; you can’t move them around, and it’s up to you to select an image with a transparent
background so you don’t get a white box around it when you add a background (which
happened in the screen shot – see the logo in slide 2?).
I then switched to “in-depth talk” and re-ran my presentation. The program now displayed all
of my map’s branches in every slide, but simply zoomed and repositioned the map to center
on each topic in succession. But because each slide displayed all of the topics and the
branches were right next to each other, the effect was like watching my mind map bounce
around on screen. To my way of thinking, this would probably be somewhat disconcerting to
people viewing a presentation given in this style.
Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 83
Despite this minor nitpick, I like the way the presentation builder is designed. It’s easy to use
and behaves intuitively.”

Feedback from users of iMindmap V 7
Here is comments from Erick H. He is in the LinkedIn - Mind Map User Group (MMUG) created
by Ruud Rensink, Chairman at Mensa, The High IQ Society.
Erick H
I have been using this tool for several years now since version 4. I think. I am glad they keep
improving each year to bring more flexibility and innovation into the Mind Mapping community.
I am a visual thinker passionate and Mind Mapping lover. I use it for work, personal grow and
almost anything where a mind map can be applied to. One thing though is that I have been
searching for the ultimate, do it all, 4x4, DMM tool. I can say I am still searching. I personally
own licenses for Mindjet, Novamind, IMM and Dropmind (and the brain but this one falls in
another category) and none of these has fulfilled my needs 100%.
iMindmap Ultimate - I think is the best tool for creativity and flexibility. Coming from Buzan's
trademark company, makes honor to the foundations of mind mapping principles, offering a lot
of flexibility, organic look and feel and design options. Presentations are great too however I
still not feeling comfortable to use for any business or formal work presentations. I probably
need to explore more on this new version but I highly recommend if you want to express to the
highest in the mind mapping method. Maybe, space optimization has some room for
improvement in future versions and alternative business like templates and viewer tool for
sharing maps. I mainly use this tool when I need to achieve an artistic work and when I am in
my creative mood.
“In the last few years the quality of Mind Mapping software has increased dramatically and is
now moving even faster. We recommend iMindMap Ultimate as the best Mind Mapping software,
and it is the official Buzan software. MindGenius V3 is also terrific, and does more than just
Mind Mapping, but isn't as 'Map like' as iMindMap”
“Mind Maps are one of the most powerful tools in your Deliberate Creativity and Innovation
toolkit. Building on the significant research and development done by Tony Buzan over 40
years, this eModule is delivered by Jennifer Goddard, Tony's Senior Master Trainer and co-
founder of Mindwerx International.”
“Mind Maps work with your brain and in this program you will begin to develop brain friendly
learning skills that unleash personal genius and creativity.”

SURVEYS ON MINDMAPPING
Web site: http://lifehacker.com/5188833/hive-five-five-best-mind-mapping-applications
iMindMap (Windows/Mac/Linux, $99-295)
iMindMap can claim two distinctions among the top five tools. First, it's the biggest
download—weighing in at 135MB. Second it's the only application on the list developed by
Tony Buzan—who lays claim to being the inventor of the mind map. iMindMap takes a
different approach to mapping than the other applications in the list. Rather than create new
nodes off the main idea by adding boxes, nodes are created by clicking in the centre or the
main idea and drawing away from it with the mouse. Each new idea is a branch off the
centre. Strangely, many of basic feature available in free mind-mapping software are only
found in the more expensive versions of iMindMap, like the ability to expand and collapse
branches. Mind maps created in iMindMap can be exported as PDF, JPG, PNG and text
outline; a 7 day trial is available.

Since he was a child Tony Buzan has been enchanted by what he describes as the power and
beauty of the mind. He has dedicated his adult life firstly to encouraging all around him to be
aware of the latent brainpower that we all possess and secondly to teach a whole range of
memory and study techniques that aim to dramatically improve our performance. His radical
note-taking method known as Mind-Mapping is designed to mirror the construction of the
human brain. He is co-founder of the Mind Sports Olympiad – an annual event where would be
champions meet up to do battle over games like chess, backgammon, draughts and scrabble.

  • 3. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 3 Introduction of Ian Hall Casual Relief Teacher Information Technology Trainer I have been using iMindMap versions over 10 years and will until I pass away. I have done mind maps into journals and personal diary over many years. I was primary teaching in WA from 1981 until 1997. Since then doing casual relief teaching in Melbourne, Bendigo, Inglewood and Ballarat primary schools for past 5 years. I have used Tony Buzan in many lessons. I still undertake iMindMap on A3 paper with textas of many colours. I have undertaken many training sessions with parents, teachers, and students on mindmapping e.g.: info on Ned Kelly or planning events for schools. Tony Buzan deserves a medal for coming up with the sanity-saving concept of Mind Maps, which make difficult mental tasks possible, even pleasurable. Here is a mind map on the topic of Teaching Tips.
  • 4. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 4 Two iMindMaps on Skype communication service sessions over the many years…I have presented to trainers and parents on topic of Skype… I like using imindmapping personally as well for creating info on session presenting, interview preparation, update curriculum vitae and planning dreams/goals for 2014. Also placed on my business card and for the resources (see in resource area below) I used mind mapping for many areas of my life. • 12. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 12 Or try the 7 Steps to Making a Mind Map 1. Start in the CENTRE of a blank page turned sideways. Why? Because starting in the centre gives your Brain freedom to spread out in all directions and to express itself more freely and naturally. 2. Use an IMAGE or PICTURE for your central idea. Why? Because an image is worth a thousand words and helps you use your Imagination. A central image is more interesting, keeps you focused, helps you concentrate, and gives your Brain more of a buzz! 3. Use COLOURS throughout. Why? Because colours are as exciting to your Brain as are images. Colour adds extra vibrancy and life to your Mind Map, adds tremendous energy to your Creative Thinking, and is fun! 4. CONNECT your MAIN BRANCHES to the central image and connect your second- and third-level branches to the first and second levels, etc. Why? Because your Brain works by association. It likes to link two (or three, or four) things together. If you connect the branches, you will understand and remember a lot more easily. 5. Make your branches CURVED rather than straight-lined. Why? Because having nothing but straight lines is boring to your Brain. 6. Use ONE KEY WORD PER LINE. Why because single key words give your Mind Map more power and flexibility. 7. Use IMAGES throughout. Why because each image, like the central image, is also worth a thousand words. So if you have only 10 images in your Mind Map, it’s already the equal of 10,000 words of notes! • 15. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 15 Chap 2: What is iMindmapping? The Swiss Army Knife of the brain Our brains are divided into the left and right cortex. The left side is dedicated to tasks involving order, logic, words, lists, numbers and analysis, the right side deals with rhythm, colour, imagination and daydreaming. If we want to improve memory, learning and thinking skills we have to use our whole brain. (Ref 1) “MindMapping, according to the real Buzan, is about image and association. It’s a meta- language that geniuses across history (think Leonardo) have tapped into by connecting thoughts with images. A typical MindMap has a central theme, and radiating from it, a series of connected words and images. For Buzan and many users of mindmapping, it’s a way to take notes and connect ideas that fits more perfectly with the brain’s way of doing things than a typical list or piece of prose.” (Ref 2) iMindmap is the name created by Tony Buzan also called the “A Ultimate Visual and graphic holistic thinking tool” (Ref 3) Mind Map is a powerful graphic technique which provides a universal key to unlock the potential of the brain. It harnesses the full range of cortical skills - word, image, number, logic, rhythm, colour and spatial awareness - in a single, uniquely powerful manner. In so doing, it gives you the freedom to roam the infinite expanses of your brain.
  • 16. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 16 Laws of Mind Mapping According to the Wiki. A mind map is a diagram used to visually outline information. A mind map is often created around a single word or text, placed in the centre, to which associated ideas, words and concepts are added. Major categories radiate from a central node, and lesser categories are sub-branches of larger branches. The idea of visually representing thought for problem solving and organization goes back centuries. (Ref 4) Similar to a road map, a Mind Map will:  Give you an overview of a large subject/area.  Enable you to plan routes/make choices and let you know where you are going and where you have been. A mind map is:  Good software tool  Intuitive  Easy to use  Remember things  Making better notes  Coming up with ideas  Saving time  Concentrating  Making the most of your time
  • 17. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 17 iMindMap is from the Inventor of Mind Mapping iMindMap is Mind Mapping software from the man who invented Mind Mapping, Tony Buzan during the 1960s, his experience at school with the librarian saying that they have no mind mapping book placed him on the path to the idea of creating - Mind mapping. Everything we do is designed to get you thinking creatively and without limitations. Our 40 years of research – more than any other organisation in this field – has culminated in us perfecting the Mind Mapping technique. Mind Map software doesn’t just try to replicate what you’re already doing in a slightly prettier format. It encourages you to think creatively and approach Mind Mapping in a way that is in line with how your brain naturally processes information. (Ref 5)

  • 27. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 27 Editing the properties of a branch has been made easier in iMindMap 7. The branch target now contains a gray segment that, when you click it, causes a dialog box like the one below to pop up over the currently-selected topic. This enables you to: Toggle it between a regular and a box branch Toggle the branch text between right, left and center alignment Change its color via a pop-up color palette Change its shape (this didn’t work in the beta version I used) Change the appearance of the branch itself via branch art (for example, you can make it look like a pencil, a road, an arm and lightning) The pop-up window contains four other tabs, in addition to branch formatting: DropTask, image, edit and objects. DropTask enables you to integrate the tasks you’ve created in this web-based visual task management tool with your mind maps. The image tab gives you fast access to iMindMap’s drawing tools and image library, as well as a “file” button to import images from your computer. Edit gives you access to cut, copy and paste tools, while “objects” lets you quickly add notes, hypertext links and audio files to a map branch. Why is this valuable? Any time you can enable users to get work done within the mind map, without having to repeatedly move the cursor back to the program’s toolbar, is a plus. Continuing to work within the map is almost always faster, especially for repeated tasks.
  • 28. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 28 To move a topic, you must click and drag on the blue segment of the branch target. When you do so, the blue segment turns into a blue circle and you can position it as needed. Not exactly intuitive at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, this method of moving topics works well. The way the segment transforms into a circle is excellent user feedback that you’re doing it right! Reference 10 White circle area with the five colours. 1. RED – Branch creation 2. • 29. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 29 Sketch area below with this tab appears You can move it, resize it and draw inside the area. Sketching The last several versions of iMindMap have given you the ability to add sketches to your mind map canvas, but they did so in a separate window. In this new version of ThinkBuzan’s mind mapping software, you are able to create them directly in the workspace. It provides a nice set of tools for creating common shapes, such a circles, rectangles and polygons, plus brushes, a paint can and more. The controls are simple and intuitive to use, and you can easily resize or drag the sketching region around the workspace, even while you’re creating a sketch- nice! When you double click in a blank area of the workspace, a set of four icons appears, which enable you to quickly add images, floating text, flowcharts and new maps. Clicking on one of these buttons displays another tier of buttons, arrayed in an arc next to it, like the screen shot at right. To select one of these elements to add to your mind map, you can simply click it or drag and drop it. When you first start using the program, a help window pops up that demonstrates via a simple animation how to use the insert target. This is very helpful, but I think this new user interface element could also benefit from tool tips, which would appear on screen as you hover over a button.” Reference 10 EXTRA FEATURES AREA

As you can see in the screen shot above, within a small area you can see four menus stacked up. This is bound to be confusing for new users. I’ve been using iMindMap for years, and I’m not even sure what all of these commands do. It’s easy to get lost, especially when the “home” button doesn’t take you back to your map and the main toolbar, but to the iMindMap 7 start page. And then there’s the branch and insert targets. Don’t get me wrong – they’re wonderful tools that help users get more work done faster. But as they get more complex, with more segments and buttons, new users may quickly become confused. Without tool tips or other “hints,” they must learn by trial and error what each one does – or RTFM (read the f**king manual). Once you understand what each one does, it’s a very productive way to build and enhance a map. But it just creates a learning curve that’s a little higher for new users.” Reference 10

  • 53. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 53 Chap 6: DROPTASK “Integration with DropTask …iMindMap 7 - DropTask integration As you create mind maps in iMindMap 7, you can easily transfer tasks to DropTask, a visual, web-based tool for project and task tracking (click here to read my review of it). To use this feature, you can either click on the gray segment of the branch target and the DropTask tab in the menu that pops up. The program also displays DropTask information for the current task in the tabbed panel at the side of the workspace. There, you can add a note to the task and send it to DropTask. When it arrives there, it appears in the application’s inbox (as shown in the screenshot at right). This gives you the option of assigning it to a specific project. This is an interesting integration, but with a relatively small population of DropTask users in the world, I question its usefulness to the majority of iMindMap 7 users. iMindMap and DropTask make the perfect pairing, with both focusing on giving you an intuitive and visual environment in which to manage information. So now you can make the most of iMindMap’s creative workspace to generate and organise your ideas, then fire them into DropTask and power them through to successful implementation with DropTask’s fluid approach to task management.” Reference 10 There is a great article on DropTask Droptask brings a rich visual interface to task management in May 17th, 2013 By Chuck Frey Here at: http://mindmappingsoftwareblog.com/droptask/ or click the picture above. How it works
  • 54. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 54 In iMindMap you can send any branch straight into the visual task management app, DropTask, to become a ‘task’. You can also export whole Mind Maps into DropTask, which will become ‘Projects’. Once you export your iMindMap branches into DropTask, individual and actionable task circles will form. You’ll then be able to use DropTask’s powerfully visual task indicators to give your project increased clarity and depth. Delegate tasks and manage priorities and deadlines Collaborate with colleagues in real time Get updates on your schedule and task progress
  • 55. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 55 Say goodbye to complex project management tools that become a project in themselves, with convoluted features and overly-complicated interfaces. DropTask is about a simple, visual and fluid way to handle your workload and complete successful projects. Example of steps 1 to 5 Step 1 Brainstorm ideas in iMindMap's generative and creative workspace, to capture and grow them fast. Organise and group those ideas to create a clear overview. Step 2 Select ideas that you would like to put into action and bring up the Branch Editor. Use the DropTask tab to send your branch and any attached notes as new tasks to DropTask.
  • 56. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 56 Step 3 You can now move into DropTask's collaborative and fluid task management workspace to organise your new tasks. Simply drag your new tasks into the relevant project. Step 4 Add priorities, attach files, update progress, and assign the tasks to your colleagues and more; all in a flexible, visual environment. Step 5 Reap the benefits of a simple, smooth process, with plenty of visual feedback, that lets you generate the right solutions and successfully implement them. No convoluted features, no jargon.

When you hover over a shape, a green button appears in the middle of it with a dotted circle rotating around it. This lets you know the program is ready to add a connector line. You simply drag it to the shape to which you want to connect. As soon as your mouse hovers over the edge of the second shape, a similar rotating ring appears to let you know you’re in the right spot to drop the line (see screen shot below, which depicts me joining shapes C and the green parallelogram E).” Reference 10.

  • 82. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 82 “Presentation templates Developer ThinkBuzan debuted a presentation builder in iMindMap 6. In version 7, it has added templates to help users create presentations even faster. Adding logos and backgrounds is now easier, too. When you click on the “present” button in the program’s toolbar, a window pops up that asks you what kind of presentation you plan to create – a meeting, teaching, big overview or in- depth talk (like the screen shot above). Helpful instructions explain what you’ll get if you select each option. You can also build your own presentation. Keep in mind that in the parlance of iMindMap 7, a presentation “template” doesn’t mean a set of colors and styles – it has to do with how the program displays each topic, the type of transitions used between slides and the speed at which it does so. iMindMap 7 - presentation templates selected “meeting,” and iMindMap 7 automatically created a set of slides where one branch appeared at a time in a slide-by-slide view, with quick transitions between them. I then used the new logo and background controls to add these elements to my slides (see screenshot at right). Logos appear in the lower right corner of each slide; you can’t move them around, and it’s up to you to select an image with a transparent background so you don’t get a white box around it when you add a background (which happened in the screen shot – see the logo in slide 2?). I then switched to “in-depth talk” and re-ran my presentation. The program now displayed all of my map’s branches in every slide, but simply zoomed and repositioned the map to center on each topic in succession. But because each slide displayed all of the topics and the branches were right next to each other, the effect was like watching my mind map bounce around on screen. To my way of thinking, this would probably be somewhat disconcerting to people viewing a presentation given in this style.
  • 83. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 83 Despite this minor nitpick, I like the way the presentation builder is designed. It’s easy to use and behaves intuitively.” Reference 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FnGKNPwTh4&feature=em-uploademail

  • 108. Ian B Hall CRT in Bendigo Vic Australia 108 Feedback from users of iMindmap V 7 Here is comments from Erick H. He is in the LinkedIn - Mind Map User Group (MMUG) created by Ruud Rensink, Chairman at Mensa, The High IQ Society. Erick H I have been using this tool for several years now since version 4. I think. I am glad they keep improving each year to bring more flexibility and innovation into the Mind Mapping community. I am a visual thinker passionate and Mind Mapping lover. I use it for work, personal grow and almost anything where a mind map can be applied to. One thing though is that I have been searching for the ultimate, do it all, 4x4, DMM tool. I can say I am still searching. I personally own licenses for Mindjet, Novamind, IMM and Dropmind (and the brain but this one falls in another category) and none of these has fulfilled my needs 100%. iMindmap Ultimate - I think is the best tool for creativity and flexibility. Coming from Buzan's trademark company, makes honor to the foundations of mind mapping principles, offering a lot of flexibility, organic look and feel and design options. Presentations are great too however I still not feeling comfortable to use for any business or formal work presentations. I probably need to explore more on this new version but I highly recommend if you want to express to the highest in the mind mapping method. Maybe, space optimization has some room for improvement in future versions and alternative business like templates and viewer tool for sharing maps. I mainly use this tool when I need to achieve an artistic work and when I am in my creative mood. “In the last few years the quality of Mind Mapping software has increased dramatically and is now moving even faster. We recommend iMindMap Ultimate as the best Mind Mapping software, and it is the official Buzan software. MindGenius V3 is also terrific, and does more than just Mind Mapping, but isn't as 'Map like' as iMindMap” “Mind Maps are one of the most powerful tools in your Deliberate Creativity and Innovation toolkit. Building on the significant research and development done by Tony Buzan over 40 years, this eModule is delivered by Jennifer Goddard, Tony's Senior Master Trainer and co- founder of Mindwerx International.” “Mind Maps work with your brain and in this program you will begin to develop brain friendly learning skills that unleash personal genius and creativity.” Posted by: Bill Jarrard on December 12th, 2010 DCI-05 Mind Mapping course (Reference 7)

First, it's the biggest download—weighing in at 135MB. Second it's the only application on the list developed by Tony Buzan—who lays claim to being the inventor of the mind map. iMindMap takes a different approach to mapping than the other applications in the list. Rather than create new nodes off the main idea by adding boxes, nodes are created by clicking in the centre or the main idea and drawing away from it with the mouse. Each new idea is a branch off the centre. Strangely, many of basic feature available in free mind-mapping software are only found in the more expensive versions of iMindMap, like the ability to expand and collapse branches.
