With a view to planning and strengthening the National
Center ISSN - National Library of Colombia, 6 lines of work
has been defined:

1. SERVICE TO USERS
The National Library serves users nationwide through
communication channels such as call, email, postal mail, website
and personal attention.
Since 2012, the National Library has automated ISSN code
assignment to provide online service, it facilitates the process
for publishers, optimizes resources and improves response
times.

2. TRAINING
Since 2013, the Colombian National Center ISSN has been
developing a training program oriented towards users, publishers
and citizens who are interested in the ISSN code.
Since 2016, it has reinforced this activity by implementing two
events per year, one every six months.
To organize these events, we build strategic alliances with
institutions such as universities and private entities. We work
together to develop programs including presentations about the
ISSN.

The National Library has worked on the development of
strategies to promote the ISSN assignment service in
Colombia:

The ISSN Centre and its Services are registered in the portfolio of
services of the National Library of Colombia. The library is responsible
for collecting, preserving and cataloging the bibliographical and
documentary heritage of the country. It is open to national and
international researchers and the general public .

4. TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS
ISSN assignment - application
To improve the assignment of ISSN, the National Library of
Colombia has implemented new technological tools to offer online
service. The application has been running since 2012 and was
improved in 2016.

5. ROAD PROJECT
The initiative really started at the National Library of Colombia in
2015. Last year, Colombian records for ROAD increased by 82% over
the previous year, thanks to the strategy of cooperating with editors
in the leading universities of the country. 140 Colombian records
have been provided so far to ROAD.

The objective of these meetings was to establish ties of
cooperation and share work experiences among other topics of
collegiality.
At our National ISSN centers, we have strengths such as good
working practices that we can share to improve our processes
and better serve our users.

ISSN assignment procedure belongs to the quality management
system of the National Library.
This procedure is part of the quality management system. It has proper
documentation and is subject to processes of internal and external audit.
