2. What is ICD-10?
The International Statistical Classification of Diseases
and Related Health Problems (most commonly known
by the abbreviation ICD) published by the World
Health Organization (WHO) provides codes to classify
diseases and a wide variety of
signs, symptoms, abnormal
findings, complaints, social circumstances, and
external causes of injury or disease. Under this
system, every health condition/situation can be
assigned to a unique category and given a code.
3. ICD is a coding system of diseases and signs,
symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social
circumstances and external causes of injury or
diseases that is used internationally to classify
morbidity and mortality data for vital health statistics
tracking and in the U.S. for health insurance claim
reimbursement.
The ICD is revised periodically and is currently in its
tenth edition in most of the nations except a few like
United States which still is continuing to use the
previous edition, i.e. ICD-9.
