By tracing a genre of resistance and cultural identity through African-American children’s picturebooks we can learn about the importance of how children understand themselves and their place within the community. Even during the current Golden Age of publishing, picturebooks still continue to lack African-American writers and illustrators. The question of why this is happening will be covered throughout this study by investigating statistical and scholarly sources. Also, the history of how African-Americans were portrayed in picturebooks through racist and stereotypical portrayals will be examined. Even today scholars continue to debate as to whether published works for children continue to contain racist depictions of Blacks. African-American children’s literature can be used as a tool to discuss how to reimagine racist stereotypes and be aware of the racist history within the stories marketed to children. The political benefit of teaching African-American picturebooks within community settings has key value for children of all races and backgrounds and provides role models that validate the importance of the Black experience in literature. Positive portrayals of African-Americans teach Black children the importance of diversity and prepare them for adulthood. By highlighting African-American children’s literature through, before or after school programs and camps, children will learn the importance of the Black cultural experience and understand the value of sharing and recognizing in the positive depictions of everyday Black life.

Abstract:- In this era of postmodernism and globalization, it has become increasingly important to pay attention to how individuals, communities, interest groups and nations redefine and rename what is unique to them vis-à-vis an abstract humanity. This calls for a shift from all forms of intellectual essentialism to the basic differences and diversities in any given nation. For African literary scholarship, it implies a concomitant shift from the conception of Africa as a unitary entity to the internal struggles and challenges faced by individuals, groups and communities in the different nations of Africa. This inevitable shift is dramatized in the scholarship of the novel in Africa. Here, there is a new interest in how the novel tells of issues that affect the nation as an imaginedcommunity of people with equal rights and entitlements. Thus, in this study, we have adopted the qualitative research methodology, as well as the theoretical strand of Franz Fanon’s third stage in the development of literature of the colonized in examining how Ben Okri has married both form and content in order to interrogate existing unequal juxtapositions in the experiential quality of lives of citizens in his Nigerian nation many years after decolonization. We have argued thatin Flowers and Shadows, Ben Okri has dramatized the realities in his nation, particularlythe insensitivity of the privileged class, the criminalneglect, as well as the numerous injustices suffered by those at the lower rung of thesociopolitical hierarchy in the imagined community of his Nigerian nation.

Examined the issues related to delivering service excellence through the lens of 39 graduating school librarians in written assignments for the final course of their certification program, as they focus on what is needed to apply standards to become an effective school library media specialist in the 21st century. Of the 16 issues identified the concern over technology and their role as a technology specialist dominated the ranking. The results reinforce the ongoing need for education program coursework that continues to emphasize the role of technology in the 21st century school learning environment.

To maximize learning value from 1-to-1 programs in schools, computing devices need to be personal, portable and multifunctional. The increased access provided by 1-to-1 devices creates great opportunities for school-librarians to support their school technology directions and to implement 21st century information literacy and reading promotion programs. The key factor in the success of 1-to-1 programs is teacher implementation of appropriate pedagogies. Teacher-librarians have the chance to provide leadership in pedagogies that most effectively utilize these devices to improve learning outcomes.

With the growing use of the Internet, collaboration is being extended to include collaboration between schools, teachers and teacher-librarians that may be geographically disparate. The processes required to undertake this form of collaboration often require a new set of skills, including the skills of communicating using electronic media. The presentation will demonstrate a developmental approach taken by teacher-librarian students at CSU.
