Bollworm & Jassid
The cotton jassid is a serious sucking
pest of cotton. The cotton jassid sucks
sap from the underside of leaves and
leaf buds. When jassids are abundant,
cotton growth is stunted, the leaves turn
downwards and heavy fruit loss may
occuronprefloweringplants

Aphid
Aphids are soft bodied insects and 1.5 to 2
mm in length. Adults are large sized, black
with pear-shaped body and conspicuous
cornicles, winged or wingless. During pre-
flowering stage both nymphs and adults
suck the cell sap from shoot apices,
peduncles, leaves and stem, secrete a honey
dew like secretion on upper surface of the
leaves and plant parts forming a black sooty
mold which hinders photosynthetic activity

About
Rice
Rice is one of the most cultivated grains in the world.
Hundreds of millions tons of rice are produced each year.
New varieties of rice can tolerate drought, floods and
salty terrains. Bacterial and fungal diseases and insects
are major threats for the successful harvest. Rice can be
white, yellow, golden, brown, purple, red or black in color.
All varieties of rice are divided in three major categories
based on the size of grain: long, medium and short.
Medium and short types are sticky due to high content of
starch. Rice is staple food in most countries in the world.
90% of global rice is produced and consumed in Asia.

deepwater rice. It is

environments where
there is continuous
flooding.
Leaf folders occur in
allrice environments
and are more abundant
during the rainyseasons.
They are commonly
found in shadyareas and
areas where rice is
heavilyfertilized.
The feeding damage

hoppers results in the
yellowing of the plants.
At high population
density, hopper burn or
complete drying of the
plants is observed.
Green leafhoppers are
important pests. They
are vectors of viral
diseases such as
tungro, yellow dwarf,
yellow-orange leaf,
transitory yellowing,
and dwarf.
