question 6
1. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
Evaluation question 6
2. Throughout this period, I have used many different applications and
technologies to construct my final product. Some of the applications I have
used are adobe premiere, Photoshop, PowerPoint and survey monkey. As I
have developed my product, I have also developed my competence with
each of these pieces of software.
3. To begin, I used survey monkey as a form of research into my specific target
market and help me later develop my product into something that I believe
would be sellable to my intended audience. Before this project, I didn’t have
any knowledge of how to use this as I’ve previously had no reason as to use
this software however it soon became crucial in my research as without it I
may have had to do field research and in turn, be delayed in my overall task
with less clear results. Throughout the development of my survey, I learnt
how to ask questions effectively as to get clear answers that I could then use
to develop my final product. Previous to this, I had not found an effective
way to present my findings. However, once I had gained my results, there
was a function to show my results through different charts such as pie charts
and line graphs. Although this was effective, I believe that I could’ve
proceeded and come to a similar conclusion without this software. The
major difference between doing this and not having such software would be
the time aspect. It would take a little more time to produce my field work
and display it in the same way therefore this was the best way to do it.
4. Secondly, to help with my presentation, I used adobe premiere again which I
had not used before. I used this as to show further audience research,
interviewing two women on what the 90’s means to them. To create this
video, I had to learn how to overlay text onto the video below. I found that
this was quite easy to do and once I had discovered how to do this, it
became very easy to create a video that was extremely easy to watch and
understand. As well as this, as I had never used this before, I had to find out
how to cut and clip videos as to remove all the extra footage that would’ve
made it harder to understand and look far less professional. Again, like
survey monkey, I could’ve not used this software although it did help make it
look better and make my task more entertaining to view. Without this, I
would’ve used PowerPoint to display the answers although it would’ve
looked very dull and would not engage the audience to any extent.
5. Finally, to create my finished product, I used Photoshop. Unlike the other
two applications, I had used Photoshop minimally in the past however I still
had very minimal ideas about how to really use the system as seen in my
preliminary task. One thing I learnt how to do is to add a gradient to the
background. I chose to do this because I thought that the original backdrop
of the studio looked too white and crisp with not enough depth making my
magazine look cheap and unprofessional. I found that this was easy to do and
emphasize the depth in my images and make the image look very
professional.
In addition to this, I learnt how to use the path tool to cut around images and
ensure that text would fit around these images as seen in my contents page.
Although I could’ve done this in other adobe applications, I believe that it
came out very effectively in my completed magazine. I believe that this was
beneficial to my magazine as it looks a lot more professional and impressive
to the audience.
6. Overall, I used and developed my skills with technology in developing my
magazine throughout the task. Using technology had its benefits such as
making my work look professional and making it far quicker to edit etc.
however, on the other hand, without much previous knowledge about some
forms of technology it became slower and more stressful to create and
produce my work although once I had discovered key elements and
methods, this did become very easy to manufacture.
