In her daily 26 minute commute from Gifford’s London office to the relative
peace of Bromley, Farah has just enough time to change her mindset from
thinking about sustainable building design to thinking about…..sustainable
building design. To say she lives and breathes her work is an understatement.
And she’s absolutely clear about the contribution she wants to make. “There’s a
gap between the way architects and engineers approach building design,” says
Farah. Having seen this phenomena in Asia, America and Europe (she’s
worked and studied in Dhaka, Boston and London) she says she wants to try to
“blend the gap” between the two professional objectives; design aesthetics and
functionality.
“Sustainability shouldn’t be a buzzword or afterthought, but the driving force and seamless thread
which connects both disciplines in creating great buildings.”
“Architects and engineers should be getting together much earlier in projects, ever before the first line
is drawn, so that the architect’s vision can be interpreted in the most holistic way.” Farah says that in
her short career she’s already seen too many cases of sequential design iterations which could have
been avoided. “By understanding both disciplines (Farah has a Masters in sustainable environmental
design with a background in architectural engineering) I think I can help to identify and clarify the
issues.”

The list of Farah’s objectives and aspirations is already balanced by her list of achievements to date;
the papers published, work commended and awards won. Among those achievements she also
includes successfully finding the best place to work - Gifford; “I love what I do and the people are
amazing. Everyone’s approachable, ideas are encouraged and respected, and the work itself is
simply the best.”
