2. Requirements of the brief
Celebrating the launch of Canon’s newest product, Canon
have requested that I produce a front cover for a Canon
advertorial magazine which promotes the new camera. In
addition, I have to create a print advert or advertorial to be
included in the magazine.. Canon’s aim is to create this
product for 15-25 year olds to widen there audience further.
Canon’s campaign theme for this new product line will be
called ‘Journeys’. This theme was chosen to emphasise how
photography can be used creatively and to display.
I will have to overcome time constraints so I will have to make
a highly planned schedule to make sure the deadlines for this
project are met with reasonable expectations. I will also have
to make myself aware of the resources I have and use them to
their best capabilities so then I can create a high-quality
3. Survey- Researching the Target Audience
Using the Survey, I understood how
much my target audience understand
advertorials and what would make them
want to read an advertorial. Thanks to
the survey, I was able to narrow down
my options for what I wanted to create
with the theme “journeys" and began
constructing ideas for the advertorial.
4. Client Research
Using the client research, I managed to get a
better understanding of who my client is and
overall, from this, I feel like I can represent Canon
much better thanks to putting in time to do a deep-
dive into who Canon are. In addition, I can use the
research to get a better understanding of the
needs that are required for the advertorial.
5. Researching existing products
Using Canon's previous work, I figured out the
regularity of advertorials and what is to be
expected whilst producing a typical
advertorial. Using this, I know how to exceed
expectations and produce a high quality
advertorial. I am going to use the styles that
were used as inspiration for my own original
design.
6. Subject Area
Using the research of the subject area, I managed to
understand a lot more about journeys (learning more on
the mental health journeys people can go on) than I
originally did. This allowed me to get a bigger
perspective on the way many different people can go on
many different journeys. I can use the knowledge from
researching the subject area and apply it to the
beginning of the product.
7. Focus Group- Researching the Target
Audience
Using the focus group, I understood my
target audience further and what they
would expect from an advertorial. In
addition, this gave me an opportunity to
look at my ideas and what would fit the
target audience and what would not.
8. My Aims
My main priority for the print advert is to create a high
standard, high quality advert that would make my
target audience want to read it. I will achieve this
through keeping to a schedule, ensuring the concept I
want to focus on for the print advert is something my
target audience would like, and to keep a high work
ethic to ensure the deadline is met along with
appeasing my target audience through a great quality
advert.
9. Final Decision
After a lot of consideration, I decided that due to it being
the least sensitive subject and can be something that can
be talked about with a positive attitude, that a Youtuber
journey would be what I would discuss in the print advert.
Moreover, advertorials tend to be informative and upbeat
which can be best achieved through the Youtuber journey
as it can improve the mood of the reader. I decided not to
do an advert linked to any other products due to the risk of
copyright.
