CERTA L2 Developing Study Skills
Task 1 - Research
• Put photo/scan of your notes from art movements intro here and delete
this guidance
• The de stijl art movement was made in 1917 in a city called Leiden in the Netherlands.
• The Dutch translation of de stijl is the style.
• Another name for de stijl is neoplasticism.
• Popular and most influential de stijl artist include Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld.
• In the 20th centry, some artist in the de stijl art movement, wanted to give a different perspective
to art to show that it doesn’t always have to be physical, realistic and traditionalistic for the early 20th
centry.
• The de stijl art movement uses a lot of vertical and horizontal lines within the movement.
• There are 3 main primary colours used with in the movement, which are yellow, red and blue.
• The de stijl art movement cause a large shift in mainstream art because it normalized abstract artestry.
2.4
Task 1 – Research – Web source
• Piet Mondrian - “The free placement of the means of expression is a privilege enjoyed exclusively
by painting. The sister arts, sculpture and architecture, are more restricted in this respect. The
other arts enjoy even less scope in their employment of the means of expression.”
• Piet Mondrian was born in Amersfoort in the Netherlands on March 7th, 1882 which was great
for the perpetuation of the de stijl art movement since Piet grew up in the Netherlands which is
where it all began.
• Since Piet is thought of as one of the best artists of the 20th century, this also added to the
trendiness of de stijl in the early 20th centry.

Red and Blue Chair (1923)
Gerrit Rietveld first desgined the chair in 1918 but was actualized in 1923. Within this art Rietveld has
clearly used the main colours used with in de stijl to my add flavour and to make to the chair look
relatable to other de stijl art.
The well-crafted and preise placing of the vertical and horizontal lines add a great aesthetic and
abstract feel to it which fit in well alongside the colouring of the chair with the yellows, reds and blues.
This chair almost marks how popular the de stijl movement was becoming because only a few decades
before this creation and the de stijl movement, a lot of people wouldn’t have enjoyed it because it
wasn't normalized artistic as much was art deco was, so people didn’t take de stijl that seriously. This
chair goes to show how much art shifted in style as time transitioned into the 20th centry.

Book Title: Visual arts in the twentieth century. By Edward lucie Smith 103674

2.3
In the scripture of the book, ”Visual arts in the twentieth centaury” it talks about how a
Dutch arts created a magazine called Des Stijl which became famous in the 1920s with it’s
unique art style that used styles of squares, rectangles, lines (vertical and horizontal) and
primary colours.
Task 1 – Research – Book source
• In the book, “Visual arts in the twentieth century” it talks about how one of the reasons why Piet
Mondrian’s early artistry developed was because his cultural isolation in the duration of the years
of the war whilst he lived in Paris.
• Also in the book, it says “like many of the pioneering modernists artists, Mondrian was a
theosophist, and in many of the ‘visionary’ wing of early modernism.”

Task 2a – Idea Generation [individual]
• 3D/2D de stijl musem posters.
• De stijl font for title.
• Uppercase letters.
• Yellow, red and blue primary colours.
• Vertical and horizontal lines.
• Texts will be horizontally and vertically placed in the middle of white rectangles
around the de stijl poster for information regarding date, location, artists and title.
• I will use borders and no borders in my posters.
I'm going to create a 2D & 3D De Stijl horizontal poster in Photoshop
with vertical and horizontal lines and title with sans serif font at the
top centre of the poster. The title I have chosen for my poster is a
synonym for De Stijl, “NEOPLASTICISM” because the word looks
very eccentric and also it has an identical translation to the Dutch
one. The location is in the Netherlands, Amsterdam because I think
that that would be a sensible location hence that was where De Stijl
was founded.
In my poster I will stick to yellow, blue and red because they are the
primary colours used in De Stijl.
Because I’m not support to create an entirely digital image, I have
decided to print out my production and draw in the areas where I
want to paint blue so that my production isn’t entirely digital.
Location: Netherland, Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum
Title: Neo

Artists Featured: Theo Van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld
Task 2a – Idea Generation [group]
Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule
Session Activity Who is responsible
1 Start basis of the poster and experiment with the
art movement style so that you can find out what
style suits you best.
Individuals within the group
2 Finally finish poster by adding the primary colours
to the composition and adding borders and adding
3D effects. Also I will complete non digital process.
Individuals within the group
3.1
Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule
3.1
• Add notes here on how you stuck to your plan/had to change your plan and why
• I stuck to my plan by discussing my plan with the group I was in and I the stuck to the plan by writing
notes down so that I wouldn't forget what I was doing I the production of the de stijl poster for the
musem.
• One part of the plan was that I decided to change was the all lowercase letters because the text looked
best when I was uppercase in the composition.
• One way that I stuck to my plan was that I decided to download an all caps sans serif font so that I
stuck and didn’t forget to follow the production restrictions.
• I stuck to the colour scheme very easily because in de stijl there is only really three primary colours
yellow blue and red so therefore it was easy for me to stick to what colours I was going to use hence
there wasn’t very many colours to memorise for my posters.
• Because it was part of the rule of making the posters that you needed to add some form of non-digital
process to your production, I was glad that I discussed about the posters production because I might
have forgot otherwise, since I was too engaged in the digital process of the poster. As a result, I had to
replace colours in my poster so that I could print out the production and draw in the areas that were
removed so that I had checked off the non-digital process of production.
•
Task 2c – Planning
• Each product has three primary colours (red, yellow, blue) which are the main colours of the de stijl art movement.
• Both products are slightly alternative then traditional de stijl art because they both have text in the rectangles,
which isn’t really a used within de stijl.
• Also I didn't’t use a border for the bottom product because I wanted to make the composition to seem continuous
so that when someone see’s the product it might like the way that the product is cut off at the edges.
• A repeated theme throughout my products is horizontal and vertical lines which are used as a main base for
starting my de stijl art posters.
• For my first composition I will use the three primary colours yellow, red and blue.
• I will use vertical and horizontal lines.
• In my de stijl composition I will use vertical and horizontal text in the white areas with black coloured text for my
information about my poster like location, title, artists and date.
• Abstract
• 2D
• I will have a black border around my poster because what I have seen of other de stijl art, it has proven to make
the composition more defined.
3.2
Task 2c – Planning
• My title will be horizontally placed at the top of my composition centrally between the de stijl vertical
and horizontal lines and will include the de stijl styled font De Stencil NF (Font Web-link: https://www.1001fonts.com/de-
stencil-nf-font.html).
• I will fill some of my rectangular shapes will black to make the composition more interesting and denser.
• Also I will randomly jumble up black text centrally within different white rectangles so that it is aligned and so that it looks
aesthetically please within the composition.
• I won't include a border within this composition so that it different from the last poster that I produced.
• I will also use pen drawing for where the blue will be on the poster so that texture of the blue on the poster for my non-digital
process.
3.2
Task 2c – Planning
• For this poster, I will make both a 3D & 2D version of the same de stijl composition to add my
own alternative twist to the poster and so that it is indifferent and so that it stands out in a
different dimension.
• For the 3D poster I will put a shadow behind the rectangular prism to make it more dominant and
I will also blur the background to make the de stijl piece more prominent and focused on the
composition. Also since the it will be in 3D I will try and aligned the 3D piece so that it is as focal
as possible.
• Apart from being 3D, the de stijl creation will use similar components like colour to
other popular de stjil artist like Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld.
3.2
Task 4 – Production/Final Products
• I think that these de stijl posters promoting the de stijl musem are pretty good for my first de stijl
compositions because although it looks easy to create de stijl, it can be quite hard to consistently add
vertical and horizontal line to the composition and colour within the rectangles to make the composition
look good because within my experiments I tried different things involving de stijl and it sometimes
looked quite ugly because I put lines in places where it looked off.
• For both of my poster products I used a title font I downloaded for the internet called, “De Stencil NF”
which I found when I was looking for de stijl fonts on google because it was a suitable font to use for the
accession hence it was abstract like my de stijl art.
• Also for when there was a tall rectangle, I would sometimes use horizontal text so that I would fill the
space.
3.2
3.4
Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
• Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you
solved these
• 1 Not knowing how to efficiently make de stijl posters.
• Try & experiment different alternative methods of application.
• Talk to peers to get new insights and techniques.
• Use google & YouTube for information.
• 2 Not knowing what to do for my poster
• Discuss poster creation with teachers and peers for inspiration and ideas for what to do.
• 3 Not knowing what or how to use tools in my poster production.
• Asking peers, figuring out on my own and google.
• Youtube
3.3
Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with others
• Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with
your team and this benefited the project
• 1 Communication
• Within the group we had great chemistry which allowed are communication to be efficient when working on
ideas.
• This helped us to work swiftly throughout the poster production.
• 2 Ideas
• The group I was in were great at sharing and generating ideas and ways of implementing those ideas into the
software which benefitted everyone in the group.
• 3 Software information
• As a group we were great at learning and helping each other with Photoshop, which greatly
enhance are abilities to optimized are potential of formulating a professional poster.
1.2b
Task 5 – Evaluation - Feedback
• Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project
and how you used this to improve the project
• The feedback was positive, and I used the feedback to make the
colours in my de stijl poster look more expressive.
3.5
Task 5 – Evaluation – Active Engagement
• Define active engagement in your studies and briefly explain how you
used it in this project
• I used a lot of active engagement in my production so that could do as much work
as possible by focusing and being determined to do the work.
• Mainly used active engagement in my production of the poster in Photoshop so
that I could efficiently complete my posters with my optimal potential. However I
probably should have actively engaged most when doing the introduction power
point because I find written work harder in some respects so I would have
benefitted if I engaged more actively when doing the power point because then I
would have done it more quickly.
1.2a
Task 5 – Evaluation
Accessing and storing information
• Explain where the books/resources are for your area in the LC
• The books are in the library in the learning centre on wooden shelves.
• Explain how to take a book/resource out of the LC
• When you find the book you want, you need to procced to take the
book to main desk in the library and give the book to the libarian to
scan so that you can take it out and use for information.
2.1
Task 5 – Evaluation
Accessing and storing information
• Explain where to store electronic information on the college network
• H-Drive
• One Drive
• E-Mail
• In a computer desktop
• Explain where you upload work when it is completed
• Add files onto the blog, publish it and email it so that tutors can view the work.
2.1
Task 6 - How do you learn best?
• Explain some of the ways you think you learn best [refer to the VAK
questionnaire results in tutorial]: Personally watching videos help me learn
well because I don’t have to overthink when watching a video and there is
a lot of videos on YouTube that are really useful for gathering information
and knowledge when watching them, which can greatly better your ability
of using software's and knowledge in genral.
• Also communicating has helped me learn a lot because in contrast to a
video, you can get a better grasp of the concept because you can talk to
the person to get a better understanding of what they're talking about.
• I work well visually and audibly on YouTube because I find it easy to just sit
and listen to what a podcast is saying because that’s just how I learn
efficienly.
1.1
Task 6 - How do you learn best?
• What makes it hard for you to study?
• Not knowing what to study
• Distractions
• Being ill
• Not have certain information and/or material with me.
• What strategies do you think would benefit your studies?
• Forcing myself to become more committed to the work I am doing because I know that will
greatly enhance the level of my work.
• Overall Organisation of working.
• Listening and watching videos on YouTube e.g. education videos and podcasts.
• Working without any distractions because then I don’t have anything put me off my work.

Cmp induction project 2019 student fom (1)

  • 1. Induction Project September 2019 CERTA L2 Developing Study Skills
  • 2. Task 1 - Research • Put photo/scan of your notes from art movements intro here and delete this guidance • The de stijl art movement was made in 1917 in a city called Leiden in the Netherlands. • The Dutch translation of de stijl is the style. • Another name for de stijl is neoplasticism. • Popular and most influential de stijl artist include Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld. • In the 20th centry, some artist in the de stijl art movement, wanted to give a different perspective to art to show that it doesn’t always have to be physical, realistic and traditionalistic for the early 20th centry. • The de stijl art movement uses a lot of vertical and horizontal lines within the movement. • There are 3 main primary colours used with in the movement, which are yellow, red and blue. • The de stijl art movement cause a large shift in mainstream art because it normalized abstract artestry. 2.4
  • 3. Task 1 – Research – Web source • Piet Mondrian - “The free placement of the means of expression is a privilege enjoyed exclusively by painting. The sister arts, sculpture and architecture, are more restricted in this respect. The other arts enjoy even less scope in their employment of the means of expression.” • Piet Mondrian was born in Amersfoort in the Netherlands on March 7th, 1882 which was great for the perpetuation of the de stijl art movement since Piet grew up in the Netherlands which is where it all began. • Since Piet is thought of as one of the best artists of the 20th century, this also added to the trendiness of de stijl in the early 20th centry. • Title/Weblink/Date accessed: https://news.artnet.com/art-world/celebrate-piet-mondrians-birthday-10-quotes-painting-437573 2.2 2.3 Composition A (1920)
  • 4. Task 1 – Research – Web source 2.2 2.3 Title/Weblink/Date accessed: https://www.theartstory.org/movement/de-stijl/ Red and Blue Chair (1923) Gerrit Rietveld first desgined the chair in 1918 but was actualized in 1923. Within this art Rietveld has clearly used the main colours used with in de stijl to my add flavour and to make to the chair look relatable to other de stijl art. The well-crafted and preise placing of the vertical and horizontal lines add a great aesthetic and abstract feel to it which fit in well alongside the colouring of the chair with the yellows, reds and blues. This chair almost marks how popular the de stijl movement was becoming because only a few decades before this creation and the de stijl movement, a lot of people wouldn’t have enjoyed it because it wasn't normalized artistic as much was art deco was, so people didn’t take de stijl that seriously. This chair goes to show how much art shifted in style as time transitioned into the 20th centry.
  • 5. Task 1 – Research – Book source Book Title: Visual arts in the twentieth century. By Edward lucie Smith 103674 2.2 2.3 In the scripture of the book, ”Visual arts in the twentieth centaury” it talks about how a Dutch arts created a magazine called Des Stijl which became famous in the 1920s with it’s unique art style that used styles of squares, rectangles, lines (vertical and horizontal) and primary colours.
  • 6. Task 1 – Research – Book source • In the book, “Visual arts in the twentieth century” it talks about how one of the reasons why Piet Mondrian’s early artistry developed was because his cultural isolation in the duration of the years of the war whilst he lived in Paris. • Also in the book, it says “like many of the pioneering modernists artists, Mondrian was a theosophist, and in many of the ‘visionary’ wing of early modernism.” 2.2 2.3 Book Title: Visual arts in the twentieth century. By Edward lucie Smith 103674
  • 7. Task 2a – Idea Generation [individual] • 3D/2D de stijl musem posters. • De stijl font for title. • Uppercase letters. • Yellow, red and blue primary colours. • Vertical and horizontal lines. • Texts will be horizontally and vertically placed in the middle of white rectangles around the de stijl poster for information regarding date, location, artists and title. • I will use borders and no borders in my posters. I'm going to create a 2D & 3D De Stijl horizontal poster in Photoshop with vertical and horizontal lines and title with sans serif font at the top centre of the poster. The title I have chosen for my poster is a synonym for De Stijl, “NEOPLASTICISM” because the word looks very eccentric and also it has an identical translation to the Dutch one. The location is in the Netherlands, Amsterdam because I think that that would be a sensible location hence that was where De Stijl was founded. In my poster I will stick to yellow, blue and red because they are the primary colours used in De Stijl. Because I’m not support to create an entirely digital image, I have decided to print out my production and draw in the areas where I want to paint blue so that my production isn’t entirely digital.
  • 8. Location: Netherland, Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum Title: Neo Font: De Stencil NF Date: 2/2/22 Artists Featured: Theo Van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld Task 2a – Idea Generation [group]
  • 9. Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule Session Activity Who is responsible 1 Start basis of the poster and experiment with the art movement style so that you can find out what style suits you best. Individuals within the group 2 Finally finish poster by adding the primary colours to the composition and adding borders and adding 3D effects. Also I will complete non digital process. Individuals within the group 3.1
  • 10. Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule 3.1 • Add notes here on how you stuck to your plan/had to change your plan and why • I stuck to my plan by discussing my plan with the group I was in and I the stuck to the plan by writing notes down so that I wouldn't forget what I was doing I the production of the de stijl poster for the musem. • One part of the plan was that I decided to change was the all lowercase letters because the text looked best when I was uppercase in the composition. • One way that I stuck to my plan was that I decided to download an all caps sans serif font so that I stuck and didn’t forget to follow the production restrictions. • I stuck to the colour scheme very easily because in de stijl there is only really three primary colours yellow blue and red so therefore it was easy for me to stick to what colours I was going to use hence there wasn’t very many colours to memorise for my posters. • Because it was part of the rule of making the posters that you needed to add some form of non-digital process to your production, I was glad that I discussed about the posters production because I might have forgot otherwise, since I was too engaged in the digital process of the poster. As a result, I had to replace colours in my poster so that I could print out the production and draw in the areas that were removed so that I had checked off the non-digital process of production. •
  • 11. Task 2c – Planning • Each product has three primary colours (red, yellow, blue) which are the main colours of the de stijl art movement. • Both products are slightly alternative then traditional de stijl art because they both have text in the rectangles, which isn’t really a used within de stijl. • Also I didn't’t use a border for the bottom product because I wanted to make the composition to seem continuous so that when someone see’s the product it might like the way that the product is cut off at the edges. • A repeated theme throughout my products is horizontal and vertical lines which are used as a main base for starting my de stijl art posters. • For my first composition I will use the three primary colours yellow, red and blue. • I will use vertical and horizontal lines. • In my de stijl composition I will use vertical and horizontal text in the white areas with black coloured text for my information about my poster like location, title, artists and date. • Abstract • 2D • I will have a black border around my poster because what I have seen of other de stijl art, it has proven to make the composition more defined. 3.2
  • 12. Task 2c – Planning • My title will be horizontally placed at the top of my composition centrally between the de stijl vertical and horizontal lines and will include the de stijl styled font De Stencil NF (Font Web-link: https://www.1001fonts.com/de- stencil-nf-font.html). • I will fill some of my rectangular shapes will black to make the composition more interesting and denser. • Also I will randomly jumble up black text centrally within different white rectangles so that it is aligned and so that it looks aesthetically please within the composition. • I won't include a border within this composition so that it different from the last poster that I produced. • I will also use pen drawing for where the blue will be on the poster so that texture of the blue on the poster for my non-digital process. 3.2
  • 13. Task 2c – Planning • For this poster, I will make both a 3D & 2D version of the same de stijl composition to add my own alternative twist to the poster and so that it is indifferent and so that it stands out in a different dimension. • For the 3D poster I will put a shadow behind the rectangular prism to make it more dominant and I will also blur the background to make the de stijl piece more prominent and focused on the composition. Also since the it will be in 3D I will try and aligned the 3D piece so that it is as focal as possible. • Apart from being 3D, the de stijl creation will use similar components like colour to other popular de stjil artist like Piet Mondrian & Gerrit Rietveld. 3.2
  • 14. Task 4 – Production/Final Products • I think that these de stijl posters promoting the de stijl musem are pretty good for my first de stijl compositions because although it looks easy to create de stijl, it can be quite hard to consistently add vertical and horizontal line to the composition and colour within the rectangles to make the composition look good because within my experiments I tried different things involving de stijl and it sometimes looked quite ugly because I put lines in places where it looked off. • For both of my poster products I used a title font I downloaded for the internet called, “De Stencil NF” which I found when I was looking for de stijl fonts on google because it was a suitable font to use for the accession hence it was abstract like my de stijl art. • Also for when there was a tall rectangle, I would sometimes use horizontal text so that I would fill the space. 3.2 3.4
  • 15. Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem Solving • Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these • 1 Not knowing how to efficiently make de stijl posters. • Try & experiment different alternative methods of application. • Talk to peers to get new insights and techniques. • Use google & YouTube for information. • 2 Not knowing what to do for my poster • Discuss poster creation with teachers and peers for inspiration and ideas for what to do. • 3 Not knowing what or how to use tools in my poster production. • Asking peers, figuring out on my own and google. • Youtube 3.3
  • 16. Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with others • Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your team and this benefited the project • 1 Communication • Within the group we had great chemistry which allowed are communication to be efficient when working on ideas. • This helped us to work swiftly throughout the poster production. • 2 Ideas • The group I was in were great at sharing and generating ideas and ways of implementing those ideas into the software which benefitted everyone in the group. • 3 Software information • As a group we were great at learning and helping each other with Photoshop, which greatly enhance are abilities to optimized are potential of formulating a professional poster. 1.2b
  • 17. Task 5 – Evaluation - Feedback • Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project and how you used this to improve the project • The feedback was positive, and I used the feedback to make the colours in my de stijl poster look more expressive. 3.5
  • 18. Task 5 – Evaluation – Active Engagement • Define active engagement in your studies and briefly explain how you used it in this project • I used a lot of active engagement in my production so that could do as much work as possible by focusing and being determined to do the work. • Mainly used active engagement in my production of the poster in Photoshop so that I could efficiently complete my posters with my optimal potential. However I probably should have actively engaged most when doing the introduction power point because I find written work harder in some respects so I would have benefitted if I engaged more actively when doing the power point because then I would have done it more quickly. 1.2a
  • 19. Task 5 – Evaluation Accessing and storing information • Explain where the books/resources are for your area in the LC • The books are in the library in the learning centre on wooden shelves. • Explain how to take a book/resource out of the LC • When you find the book you want, you need to procced to take the book to main desk in the library and give the book to the libarian to scan so that you can take it out and use for information. 2.1
  • 20. Task 5 – Evaluation Accessing and storing information • Explain where to store electronic information on the college network • H-Drive • One Drive • E-Mail • In a computer desktop • Explain where you upload work when it is completed • Add files onto the blog, publish it and email it so that tutors can view the work. 2.1
  • 21. Task 6 - How do you learn best? • Explain some of the ways you think you learn best [refer to the VAK questionnaire results in tutorial]: Personally watching videos help me learn well because I don’t have to overthink when watching a video and there is a lot of videos on YouTube that are really useful for gathering information and knowledge when watching them, which can greatly better your ability of using software's and knowledge in genral. • Also communicating has helped me learn a lot because in contrast to a video, you can get a better grasp of the concept because you can talk to the person to get a better understanding of what they're talking about. • I work well visually and audibly on YouTube because I find it easy to just sit and listen to what a podcast is saying because that’s just how I learn efficienly. 1.1
  • 22. Task 6 - How do you learn best? • What makes it hard for you to study? • Not knowing what to study • Distractions • Being ill • Not have certain information and/or material with me. • What strategies do you think would benefit your studies? • Forcing myself to become more committed to the work I am doing because I know that will greatly enhance the level of my work. • Overall Organisation of working. • Listening and watching videos on YouTube e.g. education videos and podcasts. • Working without any distractions because then I don’t have anything put me off my work. 1.1
