2. 1. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
3. Cover
The front cover of my magazine uses many conventions of a real magazine. Similar to Top of the Pops, I
have placed the masthead ‘Chart’ slightly to the left in the top third of my cover. This is a convention that
real magazines use so that the title is what you can see when they are lined up on the shelf. I have used
both types of font, San Serif and Serif, to add variety to the coverlines and make some stand out more than
others. My main coverline is a lot bigger than the others, it also anchors the main image. This indicates
what my double page spread is about. My image is a medium close up. I have also used a footer showing
the sections in my magazine. My colour pallet is similar to TOTP as I have used bright, eye catching
colours that would tend to appeal to the female target audience. Price, Date and Barcode are all included
in both magazines too.

4. Contents
Similar to Vibe, my magazine has a masthead, it titles the page as ‘Contents’, whereas, Vibe uses the
name of the magazine. I have used Page number references and Subtitles, giving the contents a clear
layout, the same as Vibe. I have also showed brief descriptions of each page, including a competition offer
for the reader. The editors note and use of rule of thirds are also typical features of a magazine. I used a
contrast of San Serif and Serif fonts to make the editors note seem hand written, which gives a personal
introduction from the editor, making the page look professional. The colour pallet for my Contents includes
bright pink and blue, the same as my cover. I have used drop shadow on the all of the text and the photo at
the bottom, I believe this makes them stand out from the background and gives a professional look.
