2. Introduction
• Airport check-in is the process whereby passengers are received by an airline at the
airport prior to travel. The airlines typically use service counters found at airports.
• The check-in is normally handled by an airline itself or a handling agent working on
behalf of an airline.
• Passengers usually hand over any baggage that they do not wish or are not allowed to
carry in to the aircraft's cabin and receive a boarding pass before they can proceed to
board their aircraft.
• Check-in is usually the first procedure for a passenger when arriving at an airport, as
airline regulations require passengers to check in by certain times prior to the
departure of a flight.
• For domestic flights, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport no later than 1
hour prior to flight time. For international flights, you should allow at least 2 hours.
4. Improvements
• Smart Tunnel: Instead of manual verification of passport/ other documents,
Face Identification / Fingerprint scanner should be used. This can expedite the
verification and immigration process and reduce the time consumption of
process 5 and 6.
• App for navigation in Airport: IOT based tools in the form of applications should
be provided to the customers. This can be used by the customers to navigate in
the airport without spending additional time to find out immigration counter,
boarding gates, restrooms, lounges, etc. This will reduce the time consumption
of process 15 and 24.
• Portable Check in device: The hand-held gadgets will act as portable check-in
counters, which will save passengers the trouble of standing in queues to get to
traditional counters. This facility is expected to reduce congestion and queues.
5. Improvements
• Video Analytics: It utilizes existing CCTV systems, or implements
dedicated video cameras in airports, and using its ingenious technology
measures and predicts waiting times at security checkpoints, check-in
areas, passport control, taxi lanes and any crowded airport
environment.
• Queue Allocation Notification through Mobiles: Suggest which queue
to go into through notifications in mobile. In the background, the loads
in queues will be monitored manually/using intelligent systems through
CCTV Cameras
• SMS notification for checked-in passengers who has not reported at
Departure Gates: This would notify the passenger if he is late, without
being notified at the last moment through telephone
