  2. WHAT IS WASTE?  They are basically UNUSABLE or UNWANTED materials.  Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or it is worthless, defective and of no use.

  9. STORAGE OF WASTE It is the first essential step of solid waste management. The waste should ideally be stored at the source till it is being taken for disposal. In India, the practise of storing waste is not highlighted because most of the time the waste are being thrown on the streets which makes the environment even more polluted.

  12. S.NO SOURCE OF GENERATION ACTION TO BE TAKEN A. Households 1.Should not throw any solid waste in the neighbourhood. 2.Store the food/biodegradable waste in a non corrosive container with lid. 3.The dry/recyclable waste to be collected in a bin/sack. 4.Hazardous waste should be disposed off at the specific places notified by the corporation. B. Multi-storied buildings, Commercial complexes, Private societies 1-4 same as above 5.Provide community bins to hold large quantities of waste. 6.The members of the association to deposit there waste collection before the hour of clearance. c. Slums 1-4 same as above 5. The people should be taught of the wise usage of community bins. D. Shops, Offices, Institutions,etc 1-4 same as above 5. Awareness should be raised in concern of waste disposal in community bins.

Hotels & Restaurants 1-4 same as above 5.The container should have a capacity of 100 litre in size. 6.It should have handles on the sides for easy handling. F. Vegetable or Fruit market 1.Provide large containers match with the transportation system of local body. 2.Waste should not be disposed off in front of the shops. 3.Deposit the waste as when generated in the bin. G. Meat and Fish Market 1. Waste should not be disposed off in front of the shops. 2.Transfer the contents of this container into a large container on day to day basis before the hour of clearance. H. Street food vendors 1.Not to throw any waste food on the pavements , roads. 2.Keep bin or bag to store the waste which is being generated during the activity. 3.Preferably have an arrangement to affix the bin to the vending cart.

Marriage halls, Community halls, etc. 1.Should not throw any solid waste in the neighbourhood. 2.Store the food/biodegradable waste in a non corrosive container with lid. 3.Provide large containers match with the transportation system of local body J. Hospitals, Clinics, Nursing homes, etc. 1.Should not throw any solid waste in the neighbourhood. 2.Biomedical waste should not be disposed in the municipal bins as it is prone to cause infections. 3. Store the waste as per the directions contained in the Government of India, Ministry of Environment Biomedical Waste (Management & Handling) Rules 1998. K. Construction and Demolition waste 1.Not to deposit the construction debris on the roads and pavements. 2.Store the waste within the premises or with proper permission outside the premises without creating any hindrance to the traffic. I. Garden waste 1.Compost the waste within the garden if possible. 2.Trim the garden waste atleast once in a week as mentioned by the local body. 3.Store the waste in large bags or bins to hand over to the municipal authorites.
