University System of Maryland at HAGERSTOWN Enrollment Getting Stronger • 149 students from programs at USMH graduated in May 2012 • 1,017 students have graduated since USMH opened in 2005 • Fall 2012 enrollment is definitely expected to be higher than Fall 2011 (formal data released in mid-October)

Washington • Excellent collaboration with the City • City is paying for renovation build-out and will be the landlord • USMH paying upfront cost of technology: fiber optic cable, installing wireless web, phones, “smart” instructional technology, plus furniture

Washington • USMH will occupy 2700 sq.ft.: Three large classrooms to accommodate up to 90 additional students at one time Offices for 6 faculty Restrooms • Use & Occupancy expected soon, although USMH will not move in until technology is completely installed – probably mid-October

Washington • City installing a “flying canopy” in University Plaza in USMH’s red, black and yellow color scheme • Exterior door canopies (same colors) above exterior doors of the new building will help “brand” USMH • Ribbon Cutting and Open House later this Fall

University System of Maryland at HAGERSTOWN Past and Conflicts • About $13.5 million in State of Maryland funds originally invested in USMH after the City’s gift of the old Baldwin hotel building • Scholarships always seen as vital to facilitate access to Higher Education. The Waltersdorf- Henson Challenge Grant raised over $500,000. • Since then, private foundations have been solicited, and the annual Feaste & Frolic fundraising gala adds to scholarship resources

Document local support to USMH from municipalities, business and civic organizations 3. Call on elected officials – particularly out of the area – telling them of your support of USMH

Programs that support/enhance the region’s forthcoming Economic Development Strategic Plan 2. Programs that fill vital Workforce Development needs in the region, such as engineering, technology, science, communications and supervising a 21st Century workforce 3. Programs that continue career pathways for HCC and FCC students

- 26. University System of Maryland at HAGERSTOWN Final Thought What we don’t need are people who know how to do what we did yesterday or today. What we need are people who know how to do what we’ll be doing in the future.
